  1. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) But it is a mistake to throw out the baby with the bathwater and demonize the First Amendment and/or the UCLU if they took up the case. Protecting our constitutional freedoms is a good, right, and necessary thing, even if it means that it opens up loopholes for despicable entities like NAMBLA, the KKK, and the Christian Coalition to hide behind. Good point, Jim, but nobody's trying to demonize the First Ammendment. I agree that having an organization who defends our First Ammendment rights is a good thing, although I seriously doubt that the Founding Fathers had the protection of organizations like NAMBLA in mind. The problem that many people have with the ACLU is that they exercise absolutely zero discretion when it comes to choosing who to defend. Not only are they willing to defend NAMBLA, they're doing it for free. Do they think that our right to free speech that absolute? I'd be willing to argue "no," as I'd be seeing porn on my TV 24/7 if that were the case. As an aside, I find it interesting that a "more liberal" government like Germany's flat-out banned the Nazi party. Yet, our government still allows the Klan (another oragnization that has not only committed numerous hate crimes, but also has a general philosophy based heavily on racial/religious hatred) to exist. Given our government's general hyper-sensitivity to the African-American constituency, I find this almost baffling. I don't necessarily advocate a government ban on the Klan or NAMBLA, but just thought I'd bring up these points.
  2. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) SWOOSH... Here comes the ACLU to NAMBLA's defense!!!!!! They're already defending them... pro bono, as well. :headshake I like that we have an ACLU, but they do a horrible job of picking their fights.
  3. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) You are very correct, he is a very smart player and an athlete.. I would love for him to be on the Dolphins but if we can get 4 picks for him, hell, I would do that trade.. FOUR picks? Boy, Gruden must not have much confidence in Griese or Simms.
  4. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Dont read too much into that... Miami is expressing interest in Alex Smith to try and get Tampa Bay to trade up with them... Miami as of right now only has 5 picks in the draft, (1,3,4,5,7) and Saban desperatly wants to add more picks.. As of right now I see it as a smoke screen.. If Miami does draft Alex Smith, I could see them working out a trade similair to what NY and SD did last year.. I do have Miami taking Smith though in my mock draft, because I kinda felt this was gonna happen.. Unlike some of the pundits, I think that Smith is the top QB in the draft. Not only did he win with mediocre talent around him at Utah and put up an incredible show at the Combine, but he did very well academically in college and had like a 39 on the Wunderlic test. You can't go wrong with that combination of talent and intelligence at the QB position.
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Ok, what the heck is iirc? If I Recall Correctly
  6. Outside of his speed, I don't see an advantage to batting Rowand #3 just yet. He hits for good average, but doesn't (yet) have the power numbers that I'd like to see in a #3 hitter. Batting him second and dropping Tad to 9th might be a decent idea. But then, Rowand doesn't draw a ton of walks either and has sort of a marginal OBP for a #2 hitter. I think I like this lineup better... LF Podsednik 2B Iguchi 1B Konerko RF Dye CF Rowand DH Gload C Pierzynski 3B Crede SS Uribe
  7. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) WTF, why cant we f***ing Sweep? Winning every two out of three games puts us on pace to win 108 this year. I'll take that over a stupid sweep any day.
  8. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Is this also an indictment on a lot of southern cities? I haven't traveled much down there, so I'm curious. YAS, don't attack, i'm just asking because I don't know. I've been told by friends that reverse racism is particularly bad in Atlanta and North Carolina. That's just their perception, though.
  9. One of my cousins used to work in New Orleans and mentioned that race relations down there were rather poor.
  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Yes, but I'm sure there are many, many factors. I'm sure that higher divorce rates, excessive materialism, illicit drug use, and a general lack of moral guidance contribue as well. I wonder where California ranks in those categories compared to the other two states. Yep, and I live around a bunch of them in Indiana. Then again, their kids are committing significantly fewer violent crimes.
  11. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) One of the most valuable lessons I learned as a kid is: you never know who you're f***in' with. Seems like some parents need to a better job of communicating that to their kids. Forget all the, 'well Billy it's not nice, or you might hurt people's feelings' crap. Go with, 'don't f*** with people cuz sometimes they snap and go ape s***.' Whatever happened to the good old days when young boys settled issues over fistfights? I was in a number of fights in my pre-teen days and never even THOUGHT about using a freaking weapon against another kid.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) I have a hard time believing that this was just a one time thing. Either that or the boy had big problems before. Heck they can find people to stand up and say how great serial killers are, I don't think they would have a hard time finding people to say that this was isolated or that this boy was normal. You just don't kill someone with a baseball bat over somthing like this, with no prior provocation or problems. One of the sides stories doesn't add up. I agree. I'll bet that either the victim (the dead one) has a history of bullying or the 13-year-old has a history of being bullied.
  13. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) :rolly Broad brush warning...again. "So many" does not equal "everyone." I'll go out on a limb and predict that California's violent crime rate is probably significantly higher than, say, Utah's or Indiana's. And I'll bet that has a lot to do with how children are being raised in those states.
  14. The idiot antagonist deserved a punch in the mouth, not a bat to the head. It doesn't surprise me that this happened in California, where the concept of "parenting" is foreign to so many.
  15. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) what's the incentive for a rancher to call the gov'ment and say... "hey, one of my cows is acting funny" ????? the gov'ment is gonna come in and slaughter the whole herd... rancher= out of business... these ranchers hide all kinds of crap from the feds... That's true. Then again, the rancher can avoid the problem by simply not feeding his cattle the ground-up remains of other mammals.
  16. WTF is wrong with kids these days? :headshake
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:55 AM) I would sit down Jermaine Dye from what I have seen of him so far, I would rather have Carl in the field because of his bat. But it wouldnt be too far off to have a rotation going in the OF, with each guy taking the 4th day off. Carl's a defensive liability in the OF (he's as slow as molasses). And I think that Dye's a better hitter, despite the fact that Carl's gotten off to a better start. I'd like to see a three-day rotation where Carl would sit the first day, DH the second day, and play RF on the third. That would mean that Carl, Dye, and Frank (who needs to be worked back in slowly) would all be in the lineup two out of every three days.
  18. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Okay, I can live with that answer. But I'm afraid the authorities will only do something once a few people drop dead The cow was killed in 1997. If someone was going to be infected, it probably would've happened by now. ALL cattle ranchers (Canadian, American, European, etc.) need to be more careful about what they feed their livestock. That's the first and most important step in stopping this disease.
  19. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Scientific basis? The section of the brain that is usually infected was not tested? Video of cow f***ing seizing around. You know, one of my cats has been acting strangely lately. But, since I refuse to kill him and analyze a sample of his brain tissue, I can't refute an accusation that he has Mad Cow Disease. :rolly Agreed tha the FDA may have screwed up, but since the CBC made the veiled accusation, the burden of proof is on them. So far, they've produced a ton of speculation but not one ounce of scientific evidence. This is nothing short of political payback.
  20. What a shock! More anti-American propaganda from CBC. I find it interesting there's absolutely no scientific basis for this accusation. :headshake BTW, nice job of creating an inaccurate thread title, KWF. There might be a place for you at the CBC when you're done with college.
  21. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) That's so Jerry Manual-ish. Never be satisfied with 2/3 when you can get the sweep! LOL! Nice... If these were the playoffs or if the season ended this month, I'd completely agree with you. But I'd rather Ozzie not make El Duque throw 130 pitches or over-work the 'pen tomorrow just to get the sweep. It's only the beginning of a very long season and sprinting early on in a marathon can be counter-productive. But if we can get the sweep while avoiding the aforementioned, then full speed ahead!
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Ozzie said that he used Hermanson tonight because Coco Crisp has good numbers against Shingo. He also said that Shingo is still his closer. I don't believe it. Sounds to me like Ozzie didn't want Shingo facing the guys that teed off on him last week, rather than anything to do with Crisp specifically. I'm glad to hear that he's still the closer, though. ONE bad outing still puts him a loooong way from losing what he earned last year.
  23. Didn't get to see the game tonight. Looked like Contreras was a bit wild, but I'm glad to see the "W". Why didn't Shingo pitch the 10th? He had yesterday off and has only pitched once in the last four days. A sweep tomorrow would be great, but it's not necessary. As long as we win series, we're in good shape.
  24. Is this a T-Mobile account? For their sake, I hope not. That would be TWO high-profile hacks in just a couple of months.
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) As far as I'm concerned this is done. I've said my peace. Oops, apparently not! I remember you calling me "TheLastWord35" a few weeks ago. You're the consummate hypocrite. :rolly QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) 1. "you or anyone else"... indicating anything that "you or anyone else" may or may not do.. not that you did it. But, hey, why let the truth get in the way? :rolly You're just flat-out lying now. Show me where I told someone to "f*** off" or called them a name today and I'll give you a dollar. Otherwise, STFU. After MrEye informed me that he "disapproved" of me saying bad things about people who advocate the slaughter of domestic cats, I told him that I "don't give a rat's ass" what he thinks. That's hardly "s***ting" on him, especially considering that his comments were completely unsolicited. Do I not have the right to respond to his comments in the manner that I choose, as long as no personal insults are involved? You "don't judge people," except for me, apparently, when you tell me that I'm "lacking in grace." Again, your hypocracy is laughable. You should consider running for public office. Given that you responded directly to one of my posts with that comment, that was the logical conclusion. Why else would you consciously direct it towards ME? Then again, if that wasn't the case, so be it. But it's rather obvious at this point that you have an agenda against me, so I'm not believing a word of your "I didn't mean it that way" explanation. You've absolutely gone out of your way to bait me today and this isn't the first time, either. Like MrEye, I don't give a rat's ass what you think of me. You're nobody special. I actually find it amusing that you're getting completely bent out of shape after YOU were the one doing the baiting. You're all bark and no bite, honey. Try expending your energy on someone who gives a crap.
