QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) I remember my first Presidential vote Same as mine. That was also that last time I voted for a Democrat for president. Once bitten, twice shy.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) You are really into physical appearance when it comes to candidates. It's not Texsox being into it, it's about the voting public being into it. Obama is a captivating speaker, yet he doesn't really say a whole lot. His oratory skills are excellent, and he's riding that horse as far as it will carry him.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) I'm glad-those that dont like him obviously weren't around for the Jack Drees era Amen to that. And Jack Brickhouse was the biggest homer I ever heard. He was all all about the cuckin' Fubs.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Id rather have the money Pods made and the ring/memories/chance to be part of history than the dough that C-Lee is eating right now, but thats just me. A walk off HR in a WS game doesn't happen to everybody.

Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp
YASNY replied to Cleats67's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(almagest @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Sure you can. All this says is, of the X runs that Ricky generated in this season, 5 can be attributed to his stealing prowess. Stats are meant to be broken down situationally -- this isn't much different than righty/lefty splits, or an average with RISP, for example. Of course they did. The point is that stealing didn't contribute as much to Ricky's game as some people seem to think. He was more so an on-base and slugging machine. You seem to be focused on stealing bases, whereas I was thinking speed. Intimidating speed. And yes, he got on base enough to make that speed a huge factor in a game. His power didn't hurt either. -
"Rambo" sucks. Not much more than a lot of graphic violence.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) Yeah, that's the other side of the coin....and I think it's more a reaction to the strong feelings coming from those who are religious to those who may not be...but that's certainly a good point, nonetheless... I don't push my beliefs down anybody's throat. When a discussion occurs, I give my viewpoints. The 'strong feelings' are just as prevelent from one side as they are the other.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) You're right- and you won't come out and say that I am beneath you or that you have more value because of what each of us believe. But you'll tell me that I must have misunderstood what it is that you believe, otherwise, I would believe it too. Correct? What does that imply? Secondly, since I am incapable of understanding, I will now also be incapable of doing other things subconsciously in your mind (when I say you, I mean someone resembling your beliefs, not you personally, obviously). And that relegates me to a position of inferiority in your mind and among your peers. I'll interject this thought into this converstaion. There has been numerous occasions in my life, and several here on Soxtalk, that I have been the recipient of comments made to make me feel 'inferior' because I happen to believe in something that can't be scientifically proven to exist.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Yes, that's true. For me, the "best" of them is Barack Obama, but I could never vote for the man because he's a socialist. I can respect the man, but I would never vote for him. The rest of these assholes/b**** are pondscum. Period. Obama has the ability to inspire this nation like JFK and RWR did. And that may just be what we need right now. However, I am afraid the man may be more of a paper tiger than anything.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) I just GAVE you examples. What the hell do you want? Re: you saying to me that most of my posts look like "xxxxxxxxxxx", pot, meet kettle. You realize that at this point in time in our country, you cannot just build 12 million or MORE people into our social welfare program, right? McCain: "oh oh oh let's fine these people and then give them citizenship". (rotates index finger, big whoopie doo doo). It's AMNESTY. Make them all go home and come back the right way through a guest worker program. I'm fine with that. The truth is I don't support ANY of these assbags, because they are all full of s***. ALL OF THEM. McCain is a jackass who stabs the Republican party every time he can for personal gain. John McCain is WHO I call a Re-pube-lican. He's a sellout. When it comes right down to it, there is no candidate in this race that a true conservative can feel good about supporting. Which is why, I believe, both of us have such a s***ty attitude about this election.

The Popeye connection seems to be popular. My first thought, before reading the thread was "I yam what I yam"

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) A-M-N-E-S-T-Y (any way you slice it, it's A-M-N-E-S-T-Y, you jackass) Being against the tax cuts, before being for them. McCain-Feingold (the biggest piece of s*** legislation in a long time) The "gang of 14" - what a f***wad. McCain-Kennedy (, a CONSERVATIVE???) I'll just START there, and there's lots of other examples. And f*** the "he's just showing leadership"... bull f***ing s***. Thank you. Each of those points is legit.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Well, that knocks out the President. Who I happen to be very disappointed in when it comes to being a conservative.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) What do you think his most liberal political issue is? What specifically makes him a liberal? Anyone thats puts his name on a bill with "-Kennedy" is no conservative.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) Romney damn sure isn't a Reagan conservative either, but he tries to claim he is, at least McCain seems to for the most part admit who he is. And McCain is more of an independent than anything else. Oh hell, gimme a break. I just watched a McCain commercial where he claims to be a true conservative. The man doesn't know the meaning of the word, apparently.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) Boy, if Romney was like that a few days ago, I wont want to see him tonight when his presidential hopes are all but dashed. I must say I am glad it appears he's going to be shut up for good by the voters this evening. And I gotta say the scare tactics of Romney, who has somehow convinced himself he's actually a Reagan Conservative, are gold. Between saying McCain is bad because he's against global warming in West Virginia with stuff like McCain will kill the coal industry, and pretending he is with Rush Limbaugh in the struggle to save the right wing, I want to throw up. McCain damn sure isn't a Reagan conservative. He's disgustingly too liberal to call himself a Republican.

QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 03:09 AM) I'll be disappointed if we don't pick the BPA with our #8 this season. last year it was widely know that Porcello was a top 5 type talent but slid down becuase of bonus concerns, with the 8 pick this year we'll already be paying a large bonus so we have absolutely no excuse to take a lesser talent just to avoid paying a big bonus Just like the stupid Twins did when they took Mauer over Prior.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) It makes sense to me that if Danks problem was in fact fatugue, that he became afraid to challege hitters early in the count, because he was afraid of his stuff at that point. Instead he was just trying to beat people with the perfect pitch, which usually leads to 3-2 counts and walks. I really believe Danks experienced mental fatigue more than physical. He wasn't supposed to make the team and he ends up in the starting rotation. That's pressure, and it takes experience to learn how to deal with pressure (see Eli Manning). Danks was kind of thrown to the wolves, and as a rookie he held his own for a while. I believe he'll be better just due to the experience he received.

Harold Baines Will Be The New Outfield Statue
YASNY replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) Actually that'd be cool to make a Mariotti statue to throw things at. A Mariotti statue would give the pidgeons something appropriate to s*** on. -
Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp
YASNY replied to Cleats67's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rickey Henderson, in his prime, was a DEVASTATING offensive player. Sometimes I wonder if some of these staticians ever actually watch the game. -
QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 03:25 AM) It seems to me like KW has been a bit too happy to trade away our top prospects in recent years, I can only hope that he was right in trading away GIO DLS and Sweeny, we did get a proven player out of that deal but if those guys pan out it will be tough for KW to convince JR and the Sox fans that he deserves to keep his job. It is not only a GM's job to make sure that a team is immediately competitive but it is also his job to ensure the long-term viability of a team's talent, you always have to consider how a deal will affect you down the road. He is trying to insure the longterm viability of the franchise by trading prospects for Major League ready young talent. Swisher is just entering his prime and is under contract/control for a few years. Then you look at Quentin, Richar, Danks and Floyd. Will they all work out? Who knows at this point, but they are all potentially capable and on the verge of being in a make or break scenario. It's not a bad plan. If the scouting and projections are close to being accurate, it'll pay off.

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: FEBRUARY 1ST/Egypt, Japan, Lofton
YASNY replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The "world" gets to see White Sox baseball and WWI breaks out. Kinda like Soxtalk. -
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) If Pods isn't on the 2005 Sox... who leads off? Rowand? I love Carlos Lee... always have, always will. But I'd even trade my own brother if it meant winning a World Series. Yep. I'll take the WS win over any speculation on what might have been.

Where have I heard this before.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) definitely. if i just got off work and we had some representatives from China at work ,whom I have working with on large data systems, and started screaming at them about communism, Authoritarianism, bla bla. my ass would get fired (and i would totally deserve to be fired). even if i was yelling at them on Wabash and not inside the building Yes, but you should be fired for your avatar.
