QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) For me the part of our lineup that worries me is the back end of it. The way I'm understanding it, if Owens comes in and has a good Spring, he'll get the nod in CF and most likely will be our leadoff guy. He certainly proved later in the 2007 season that he can hit at the major league level and that he can steal a base. Hitting .267 and stealing 32 bases is pretty awesome for a rookie if you ask me, and he only played in 93 games. So if Owens is in our lineup, it would probably look like this... CF Owens SS Cabrera 1B Konerko DH Thome LF Swisher RF Dye 3B Fields (like most, I am assuming Crede is gone, which I would not do, but that's a different topic) C Pierzynski 2B Richar (Ramirez? Uribe maybe?) Then let's say Owens has a crappy spring and they decide to stick Swisher in center, which would probably give Quentin the slot in LF.... SS Cabrera CF Swisher 1B Konerko DH Thome RF Dye LF Quentin 3B Fields C Pierzynski 2B Whoever Either way, I think that's a rather solid lineup. Josh is really going to have to work on his approach at the plate. Hitting 23 home runs in 100 games is great - but striking out 125 times is not. Especially when he only walked 35 times. With my lineup the way I have it, our bottom 3 guys had OBPs of .308 (Fields), .289 (Richar - granted, very limited playing time), .284 (Uribe), and .309 (AJ). That will not get it done at the major league level. I left out Alexei because he's a rook and I don't know how well Cuban stats would translate to the majors. Hopefully Owens comes out and has a great Spring, because our lineup would be much better with Owens/Cabrera at the top, with Swisher moving down to the middle of the order. I have just one question for you. How many times has the lineup had Paulie 3rd and Thome cleanup?

I have to give Obama this much. The man can give a speech.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) But is anyone going to rush out and buy the paper or subscribe because everyone here thinks moronoti sucks? I don't see how this negative talk helps his bosses sell papers. Frankly, just about ALL the baseball coverage in the Sun Times sucks. Just about. How many people have clicked on the CST's website to read the column because of this thread? How many from WSI did so? When that happens, those people see the ads on the website. So, yes, it does affect the bottom line of the Sun-Times when "this negative talk" happens.

A photo showing the Clintons posing with Resko, or whatever Obama's 'slum landlord' friend's name is has turned up. Hillary appeared on the Today show and denied knowing the man at all. I believe her for 2 reason. First, she wouldn't have hit Obama with if this was an acquintance of hers. Also, the picture looks photoshopped to me. Should be an interesting day.

I heard on ABC radio news as I was heading into work that the NY Times is reporting that Jose Conseco agreed to keep Magglio's name out the steriod fiasco if Magglio would invest in some type of movie deal. In other words, blackmail. That's all I know at this point. Will add if I find anything more.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) Outside of the Garland deal, I really like what I've seen from the Buehrle extension through the Dotel signing. I don't know what Uribe and Crede will net, but I expect them to be moved by the deadline. Hopefully they'll be competitive this year and KW will wait until next winter to deal Paulie. By next winter, actually about May, Paulie will have trade veto rights. Next winter might be too late.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) I liked the blue text. Thanks everyone. Stay out of this. Me and Tex are padding our post count.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Was the blue text too much? I was thinking of just using black but wanted to make it extra special for Baltra Ya, that was on the side of overkill.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) Actually, according to Merkin, I'm wrong, and the Sox will have to remove someone from the 40 man to sign Dotel, which is part of the holdup. But right now there's only 39 guys listed @ Whitesox.com on the 40 man, so the remaining person must be Ramirez unless I'm missing something badly. This may clear that 40 man roster question up. From the Sox webpage CHICAGO -- Octavio Dotel became the latest addition in what has amounted to Ken Williams' offseason overhaul of the White Sox roster, with the right-handed reliever agreeing to a two-year, $11 million deal on Tuesday. Dotel will earn $5 million in 2008 and $6 million in 2009. Along with the Dotel signing, the White Sox announced the official agreement reached with infielder/outfielder Alexei Ramirez. The free-agent signing of the Cuban exile originally was reported in late December. Ramirez, 26, receives a $500,000 signing bonus and will earn $950,000 in 2008. Ramirez is set to receive $1.1 million in each season from 2009-11, completing his four-year, $4.75 million agreement. Ramirez posted a .334 average with 73 home runs and 328 RBIs over 521 games for Pinar del Rio in the Cuban League from 2001-07. He has the ability to play second base, shortstop and center field. Dotel, 34, posted a 2-1 record and 4.11 ERA in 33 relief appearances between Kansas City and Atlanta in 2007. Since 1957, he ranks fifth among Major League relief pitchers with an average of 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Brad Lidge (12.6), Rob Dibble (12.17), Francisco Rodriguez (11.97) and Billy Wagner (11.84) are the only relievers who rank higher. Dotel also has limited opposing hitters to a .218 average over nine seasons. To make room for Dotel and Ramirez on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed reliever David Aardsma for assignment. Williams has added Dotel, Ramirez, Scott Linebrink, Nick Swisher, Orlando Cabrera and Carlos Quentin during a busy offseason.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Happy Birthday!! And I mean it. This isn't just some lame excuse to pad my post total. Ya. What he said.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Seriously, was he ever really "in"? From his website, to his speeches, to his not quite finished position statements, it seemed like a half assed attempt without a real desire. I hope the taste got him excited enough to really run in 4 years. I think he adds a lot to the national debate. His campaign was really disappointing.

That's just wrong.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) This runs in my area. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O92-klKLcWs The end is the worst. I just wasted 35 seconds of my life watching that. And at my age, that's a big deal.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) Short, sweet and to the point! Hey, you and I see a lot of things very similiarly, and I agree that GWB has handled himself about as poor as a president can, but he's not bats*** crazy. Anyway, I digress. Have a good one, sir. I better get at the daily grind. Yes, we do have a similar outlook most of the time. How'd you get so damn smart?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) You act like this is Pakistan. I don't care if a "9/11 event" happened on January 1 of next year. This country will still go on, with a new president, on January 20, 2009. Period. ok

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) Come on YAS. Bush is a dick, but he's not THAT stupid. All it would take is another 9/11 type of incident. I hope I'm very wrong about this. We'll see.
