QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 13, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) Id vote for Ron Paul if for no other reason he is against the Patriot Act. But the problem with me is Im a stupid American that wastes my right to vote by not voting. Always vote. Even if you vote someone that has no chance in hell to win, you are effectively voting "NO" to the selected candidates. The last time I voted for a Republican candidate in a presidential election was in 1988. The last time I voted for a Democrat for president was in 1976, which was my first time to vote. Made that mistake once, I doubt that I'll make it again. However, I have voted in every presidential election since I turned 18. My voice, however inconsequential it may be, is still heard.

Navarro ... by far! No one else even comes close.

QUOTE(palehose23 @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Finally the greatest 4A player in Sox history is back (with apologies to Scott Ruffcorn. Jeff Abbott and Brian Anderson) LIEEEEEFFFFFFFF!!!!!! I can't believe you forgot Joe Borchard.
-
If this happens, that takes two 3B's off the market. Crede to the Angels?

And we think we are tough on Sox players!

LOL ... That "No comment" says a lot, but leaves a lot to the imagination too.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) uh...what exactly does the "initiation" entail? I guess if I have to ask, I'm not gay. Don't ask. And don't tell.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Shouldn't the people who fired the West Coast scouts over this pick be somewhat responsible as well? Did the organization blindly take the Poreda recommendation and that's it? Seems like the top 50-100 potential draftees should be combed over carefully by most/all members of the scouting/managing departments so we can red flag pitchers with concerning flaws such as 'horrible mechanics' and 'no breaking ball'. The first draft pick is too important to waste. s*** rolls downhill.

QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) No. Thanks. John Danks' final numbers last year are about equivalent to what you could expect from Kyle Lohse. Do we really want to pay Lohse 7 mil + a year to consistently give what Danks gave last year? At least Danks has an upside, and should probably pitch better than he did last year. Lohse has no where to go but down, especially since he'd be coming back from the NL. There has been so much complaining about us going with Danks and Floyd that this puts things into perspective. The kids may falter, but then again we could pay a mediocre pitcher a king's ransom and still be no better off.

Free agent Kyle Lohse has backed off his demand for four guaranteed seasons, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Now he wants three years and a vesting option. Lohse still figures to make at least $10 million per season, though if anyone currently has that kind of offer out to him, they've kept it quiet. The Mets and White Sox are a couple of possibilities to be involved. The Phillies said last month they were out of the running.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) God dammit. They need to just let this go away. They tried that tactic for years. That didn't work so well.

To be honest, I haven't read this yet as I have to go to work. I thought I'd put out there though. Link

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) Right, but they do genetic screenings all the time. If you're one of the lucky ones and your genes are "good", why not get a break for it? I'd definitely be inclined to marry someone else with relative health...and so on. /green I mean, I half-heartedly think this is a good idea. I just don't know if I buy into the "everyone should get health care at the same $$ amount". Basic health care coverage for anyone under 18, seems reasonable to me. No no no! We are talking about universal health care here. Why should we not offer the same benefits to citizens of Kenya or the Sudan as we do to the any other foreign citizens. I mean universal just doesn't mean American does it? There are people suffering all over the world from lack of health care. Why not include them all? We can't differentiate based on race, creed or nation of origin whether they happen to foreigners in Arizona or Central Africa. Where is your heart?

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) Yas...you're up! There are a few 'retired' smileys that I could put to very good use right now.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Well, kinda right. you could argue this younger generation is in favor of massive changes but older people like the status quo. You don't think the baby boomers didn't want massive changes? Go back and look at 1968. The boomers thought they could turn this nation into some sort of everybody's happy, all is great, utopia. You know, kind like what you hear from the southpaws today ... there should be no poverty, everybody should have top notch health care, etc. Well, the results are what we are dealing with today ... and generations of Americans will have to deal with. That's if we are lucky. This whole damn thing can very easily go right down the crapper. Basically, they/we f***ed it up. Edited for grammar correction.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) Good for Dennis. It's been proven that Paul lost votes, now DK wants a recount. Some have been hinting the Obama should have called for a recount as well.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) It's the old folks' fault!!! DAMN YOU YASNY!!!!!!!! Believe me, I do feel a sense responsibility that this happened on "my watch". It's not a legacy I'm proud of.

Ross Perot tried to tell us this 16 years ago, but nobody wanted to listen. Nobody, meaning candidates, wants to tell us this today because they know we don't want to listen. Our kids and grandkids will have to deal with this eventually, and they'll curse us for putting on the blinders and maintaining the status quo.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) Right now nobody is going to touch Crede with a 5 foot pole, until he shows that he is completely healthy. That may not be until ST. Uribe was IMHO a mistake, re-signing him. The only logic I can see now is if he thought he could trade him for something, but right now that doesn't look like it's going to be the case. I don't want to pay $4.5M for a utility IF who puts up a sub .300 OBP in most occasions. That's 1 move, where I would like to see how he defends the re-signing. Did he know that he would acquire Cabrera soon after? If so, why re-sign Uribe for that price if you're going to be stuck with him? No, he didn't know he would acquire Cabrera at that point. In fact, after signing Uribe, the Angels told KW that they were planning on offering Cabrera to him until he signed Uribe, thinking that KW wouldn't be interested after the signing. Of course, KW still had ears to hear, so to speak.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) And if an athlete of Clemen's porportion did, or did not, use steroids is a much more important topic than some kid dying. Geez, that happens all the time. Take it to the 'Buster. This is a baseball forum.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) http://thebaseballcube.com/statistics/1986/10110.shtml I was kind of amused by some of these names. Boy our system was thin back then, but it might be worse now. Yaz Jr. I had forgotten he was in our system.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) i think Himes' approach was to take the college player who was closest to the reaching the majors. Himes also had some high draft picks to work with.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 10:37 AM) You'd think we live in Communist Russia by looking at some of the comments in here. More like Socialist Germany. We are headed in that direction like a snowball headed toward hell.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:20 AM) That was how I understood it. McNamee left a message asking Clemens to call his very ill son as his son loved Clemens. Clemens did not call his son and instead tried to bait McNamee. I also believed that McNamee and his son are not in the same place so a call to his son would be contacted by McNamee. Nobody is even saying how s***ty it is that he not call the sick kid that has nothing to do with Clemens who Clemens knew and instead tried to set up McNamee. This whole thing starting to set Clemens up for disaster as it appeared that McNamee really felt bad for doing what he had to stay out of jail and Clemens is starting ot look liek a real jag off.......I wonder if McNamee ahs some real evidence against Clemens. You notice Bonds never pissed on Anderson's Cheerios and Anderson went to jail for him. McNamee has the cards in this thing if he has some good stuff and as Pratt has stated, he could turn Clemens into Pete Rose. Non confrontational question here. Just curious. How do we know Clemens didn't call the kid?
