QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) 'Cause Gammons will leave to finally fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming VP of Baseball Operations for the Yankees or Red Sox. Hey, the Red Sox need a GM.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) So are you of the opinion that the Sox aren't going to give him that opportunity next season? I don't know one way or the other.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) Also its not like the Twins will offer him more money than anyone else.... Frank is exactly the type of player the Twins might go after. Someone that can really help them, but they could get cheap because of his health concerns. It's a gamble the Twins might take. As for Frank not going there, if they give him a shot at 500 HR, he gawn.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) lol, they may have interest in him but I can almost gaurantee he'd have no interest in them. After all those years of playing for the White Sox, I just don't see Frank going to a rival like that. Get.Real.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 07:15 AM) Do you think Vazquez is kicking himself for spurning the White Sox now? He may be doing so, but the Sox certainly don't regret it.

Boras is now suddenly PR conscious? :rolly

I could be wrong, but I don't see KW reversing his trend by trading a good solid starting pitcher for a slugger.

Keith Magnuson Reggie Fleming Joe Torre

Anyone could be moved if the right deal comes along. Rowand is one of those that would be more probable than others on the Sox. As for the Yankees, I never could see what they have to offer that could match up. It wouldn't shock me to Cashman try and pull in another team if he has his sights set on Rowand.

I don't think it's at all a given that Mark is the opening day pitcher. Ozzie has shown that he will do what he thinks is the best for club as a whole. If he thinks the starter should be Contreras, he'll start Contreras.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) He's just saying that to cover all of his bases. If Konerko leaves, the Phillies and the Marlins would try to gouge Kenny for Thome and Delgado. Agreed. That's just KW being PC with and about one of his ballplayers. I don't think KW seriously considers Gload a viable replacement for PK.

QUOTE(korntownballa @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 07:02 AM) How do you know? It is kinda sickening to see ONLY the red sox and yankees get special dvd's. I don't see a Marlins, D'backs, Angels, Collectors Edtion anywhere. WTF? this is not fair! if they don't come out with a WHITE sox dvd, i'ma do something about it! It's been mentioned around here. If I recall, Brooks Boyer was specifically asked about this via email and confirmed it.

QUOTE(korntownballa @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 06:31 AM) Will MLB release a White Sox Collector's Edition like that of Yankees and Red Sox? I'm not talking about that 60 min World Series DVD($19.99) that is to be released later this month. But the one like they released for the Red Sox and Yankees. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009IXRL...&n=130&v=glance -The Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series Collector's Edition (2005) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009PLM6...&s=dvd&v=glance -The New York Yankees Fall Classic Collector's Edition 1996-2001 (2005) Man I REALLY really hope so! But my gut tells me they won't because you don't see any other world series winner with the collectors editon. If they don't I'll be really pissed off! Supposedly, there is something in the works. No details as of yet.

I don't know Steff. I'm not trying to argue with you, that's for sure. You may be 100% correct on this. I just don't know. However, nothing you have said changes the point of view I came in with. Which was, I haven't seen anything outside of Soxtalk that points to it. I'm not being stubborn here, either. If you said, "Paul told me himself it's degenerative." I'd believe you. But Paul's quote doesn't lead me to the same conclusion it's leading you. Now you are asking me to take a leap of faith that he, in fact, does have a degenerative hip based on the fact that he has a neighbor in AZ who may or may not be Albert Belle, and who may or may not be advising him on his contract and that his hip may or may not be the reason he's doing so.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:37 AM) Apparently you've not been watching him run the past several years.. He MAY have a condition.. yea.. this Cincy reporter just pulled it out of his ass and Paul said.. 'yea.. my hips aren't perfect..." EVERY YEAR he gets slower on the bases... but naaa.. there's nothing wrong with those hips. His hips aren't perfect. Given. Degenerative? Like Belle's?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:27 AM) Because, of course, you fully expect him to advise on how bad his condition might be. All that I've said, and right along with Jason on this one, is that Soxtalk is the ONLY place I've ever seen anything referring to Konerko having a degenerative hip condition. You put that quote out by Pauli, and as I'm reading it I'm thinking, ok so it's not degenerative then. Then I see your comment on the bottom of the post. Now, I'm thinking "Where did she get that it's degenerative?" Hell, he MAY have a degenerative hip condition. But I've seen nothing outside of Soxtalk that would lead me to believe so.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) 59. Ok, so he played in only 59 games. Yet, he only played in 58 at 1B. Which I cannot see as a basis for anyone saying Thome is only capable of being a DH.
-
Reading the words from Paul's mouth, it doesn't sound degenerative to me.

Generally, parents get more upset about their kids watching a man kiss a woman's breast than they do about their kids watching a man stab or shoot a woman's breast.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Just seeing the Topic Starter as Steff and the subject being "I'd like some sex, with a side of sex.." kinda made me think...You go girl!! It kinda made me think ... C'mere!
-
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) I said there is no way he can play the field. How many games has he played at 1B since his back started acting up? I believe he only played what 58 games or so this year at 1B. More so if the Sox were to pick him up it would more than likely to be a DH and maybe once and a while 1B but no way his back could hold up for a full season. Maybe I am wrong but we will see. JMO though. How many games did he hit in this year?
-
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) I would take Thome for DH...no way he can play the field anymore. He would f***ing crush at USCF! I didn't realize the Phillies were using Thome as a DH.

Congress may pass steroid bill by Thanksgiving
YASNY replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
I think the purpose of this legisation was to force baseball's hand to implement the proposal the Selig put on the table. If you notice, this bill proposes similar but slightly elevated punishments by comparison. If baseball does enact it's own policy, as proposed, then I think this bill will just fade away. -

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) good call on hermanson, but i'm not really worried with jenks being our closer. cotts and politte yes. Although, hopefully with Cotts, its a sign of things to come. Even the call on Hermanson is debatable. He had only previously held the closer's role for part of the season at SF. KW signed him because he's a quality pitcher who also happens to be a versatile pitcher. Signing Hermanson allowed the Sox to have some flexibility with their pitching staff, which was part of the plan. You can say that DH had a career high in saves and be absolutely correct. I look at DH as pitcher that knows how to pitch. His job was to get outs regardless of his role. He had shown that ability in past and continued to so for the Sox.
