  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) Ok, now you know very well how wrong that remark is...or at least you should. Every single person here should care how much Abreu is making...because you can't build an entire team with just Abreu. We have money that we need to give to Garland, Pierzynski, Crede and Konerko this year...and next year Buehrle enters an option year and Contreras is a FA. Dump money on Abreu, and all of a sudden there's nothing left to keep Buehrle, and he winds up a damn Cardinal...and we all curse KW for not resigning MB. That's not a problem at all. All we have to do is say "We have to sign Buehrle no matter what it costs!"
  2. Here's the way I remember the Alex Cora thing. Word leaked out about Cora's upcoming signing with Cleveland. Yet, it was reported in the media as a done deal. Levine then reported it on the day the signing actually occured. You can look and find media links that will "prove" me wrong. But as I said, the signing was prematurely reported.
  3. Hendry has been criticized for two years for not upgrading his bullpen. He really had no choice this offseason. Eyre is a good pitcher and Hendry went and got him. I'm not gonna knock this move from a Cub perspective. That said, I'm glad the Sox didn't sign Eyre to the same deal.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) Then just say that was the reason. I have a problem with the lying. Went back to this post to say ... I totally agree.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Eye.. at this point staying there has NOTHING to do with Sadam anymore. I never said we shouldn't have stopped him. But last time I checked he was in a prison cell and no longer murdering "his people". Give them the tools to act like humans rather than animals, and get the hell out of there. Those idiots will never stop killing eachother no matter what is done. I think that's exactly what we are trying to do. If we leave now, there will be another despot take control over there and all this will have been for nothing.
  6. You what's really ironic about all of this? Bush had all the justification he needed to go to war with Iraq without any mention of WMD's. If you recall, we had our fighter jets over there patrolling the UN mandated No Fly Zones. Iraq attempted on several occasions to shoot them from the sky. As far as I'm concerned, that's more than enough.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) Meh..I personally don't think Nady becomes much but we'll see. If he is 27 as was mentioned, he should be entering his prime. He hasn't shown much at the ML level as of yet.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Who said DH's cant win the MVP? It was just said a guy who plays defense and has similar and in this case overall better offensive stats will have the advantage. Where are you coming with this crap that DH's cant win MVP's. Its understandable you wanted Ortiz to win since your a Red Sox fan but why make up s***? Yep, I'd say R&W's MVP preference was rather, well, predictable.
  9. You can put him on board! Yes!
  10. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Yes there are. Not to highjack the thread but hats off to you for sticking with Joe Crede. You were right and I was wrong and I'm damn glad. I always liked Joe but yes I did doubt him. Again you were right and I was wrong and that's great. SCalSS59 nice to meet you. I actually remember the 59 WS. I actually remember the 05 one too. A much better collection of memories I'd say. Eh. We all have opinions. Some turn out to be correct while others don't. As for Crede, I think the jury is still out.
  11. QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) but he does play defense quite well, and isn't making an unreasonable amount of money. He is a solid hitter in the .280 range, and has the flexibility to hit all over a lineup depending on where he is needed. You answered your own question with the segment quoted above. For those reasons, Rowand is drawing interest from other clubs. The Sox abundance of minor league outfielders with talent also adds to the equation. If the Sox do make any trades, odds are that Rowand and/or Marte will be involved.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:23 AM) Perhaps the world can use "a diamond is a diamond", "a club is a club", a heart is a heart..." instead... :rolly Poor snakes and rats.. I wonder if they realize the injustice they have endured. I also used that very justification as well. The point is that it COULD be derived from racist remarks and it wouldn't shock me if that was the case. Of course, they could have been talking about shovels.
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) tremendously insensitive and uninformed. A fairly accurate description of Cowherd, in general.
  14. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) I still sneak away and get lost in a store... But they know to check the lingerie dept first.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 06:02 AM) Im not going to be able to do the trip but does anyone know if their all going to be on TV again? I know the games dont count but its fun seeing some of the young guys play and its always nice to see baseball after a long off-season. They were televised last year to fill time due to the hockey strike. So, you'd think probably not. However, if I remember correctly, they were pleasantly surprised by the ratings. Now, if you add to that the fact that this year they will have the option of showing ST games of the WORLD CHAMPIONS!, they might consider it.
  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) I'd just like to say that the phrase he used is not racist in origin. Can't really get on his case for that. I've always wondered about the history behind the origination of the phrase, and whether it had racial overtones or not. I have refrained from using it on here several times because I'm not sure. If you can enlighten me as to how you know it's not racist in origin, I'd appreciate it. For the record, I always suspected that it was.
  17. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) So you're saying n*****, f**, k*** or gook are in the same league as redneck or idiot? Words aren't just words, they have emotion, and in many cases hate behind them. k*** isn't a word, it's a derogatory slur with racism and hate attached to it. Does redneck have some sort of hate behind it? Sure it does, but it's not even close to racial and sexist slurs. I must have forgotten how Southern white males were persecuted throughout history in comparison to blacks, Jews, Irish and Asians. And it's not sad that I find many Christians completely lacking in logic. A spade is a spade, and someone who ignorantly believes that some people go to hell for their sexual beliefs or their lack of prayer don't deserve my time. Whether the persecution levels meets your criteria or not, any word that is attached to any group of people that is used in a derogatory manner is prejudicial. So, yes, redneck is equivilent to k***, s*** or whatever.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) How does that make sense.... the MVP has come out of the West division for soo long. It doesn't. I thought of that myself after some time had passed.
  19. QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) Who loves ya baby! Damn! A Telly Savalas - Kojak reference.
  20. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) Iguchi should be the #3 hitter because he is the best All-Around Hitter on this team. If he was a #3 hitter he could probably hit 30 Home Runs and 100 RBI. You are taking a HUGE leap of faith here. He may have been a number 3 hitter in Japan, but this ain't Japan.
  21. If a guy's strength is going back on balls, then he needs to play shallow. Someone else's strength may be coming in on those little flares, so he'd play deeper. There shouldn't be any set way to judge the position. In other words, someone can be just as good regardless whether he plays deep or shallow.
  22. While I wouldn't say it was cheap, I just received my authentic road WS jersey with name/number of Champions/05.
  23. Welcome to Soxtalk! It's nice to see another longterm (re: old dude) Soxfan join the board. There's only a few of us around here.
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) I agree with you. I think the Sox are probably only interested in dealing Rowand, El Duque, and Marte though. Rowand can be replaced by Brian Anderson, El Duque will be replaced by McCarthy, and Marte could be replaced by a guy like Scott Eyre or Mike Myers. No one else on our team has a viable replacement. Rowand, El Duque, and Marte will earn a combined $10 million next season. Rowand and Marte probably have good trade value but El Duque probably doesn't have much because of his age, injury issues, and $4.5 million contract. We would most likely have to pick up some of El Duque's contract to deal him. Rowand, El Duque, and Marte are the guys I look for the Sox to deal in any possible trades. Delgado would probably cost Rowand, Marte, El Duque, a decent pitching prospect, and some money to pay for El Duque's contract. With Delgado's back end laden contract, no way will it cost that much tgo get him. Florida will want to get out of that deal if they can.
