    Pay those taxes..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) But you cannot run any organization as large as even a city government without written rules. Imagine the fun of bringing a case for $850 and having the lawer say they didn't prosecute this person for $905, why are they prosecuting my client? Well your honor we have 10,650 agents and they each use their common sense, luck of the draw, this agent prosecutes. I understand and agree that prosecuting a small amount seems like a waste of time, but if this case sends a message to 100,000 other taxpayers who each owe $2.00 that the government isn't going to let it slide, and they send in payment, wasn't it worth it? As someone who has had some disagreements with the IRS, I can assure you they are very good at making certain you have received the notices and have had plenty of time to respond. Well, since they took the time and effort to generate all those notices, and mailed them out, never mind.

    Pay those taxes..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Let's write a new law. How small of a bill should they prosecute? $20, $50, $100? Basically, as soon as you come up with a number, in theory, every tax payer could short their bill that amount. Multiply that by millions of tax payers, and you will have a better understanding why there isn't a minimum before prosecuting. Yes, it's a good point. It's also a waste of taxpayers money to be prosecuting this case. They don't have to advertise the fact the overlook certain trivial amounts, but common sense suggests that they should overlook them.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,174826,00.html Troop levels are set to drop from the current 161,000 to only 92,000 after next years rotation is complete. This is defenitely good news. Wrong. Rumsfeld stated today that to assume this means a drawdown in US troops in Iraq, is a mistake.
  4. Regardless of what teams they choose to do, this is some lame ass s***.
  5. I'm not going to read this whole thread, because TO won't be coming to the Bears. But, damn! How can somebody that just watched the example shown by the Sox on what teamwork can accomplish advocate signing the most selfish maggot in sports today?
  6. I gotta go with Grossman. From what little I've seen, he's the better QB.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Im in your corner on that one Dabby. I sort of feel the same about Garland most feel about Freddy. While I dont want to break up the fab 4, I also think if the right deal is out there, Jon can be shipped off. You have to have some balls and alot of faith to tell me Jon will have a higher value in his career then RIGHT NOW. While Fredrico can be shaky, he is flat out a gamer. For OBVIOUS reasons, his performance in game 4 got overlooked. There is no bigger game than the clincher for the WS, on the road none the less, and he didnt give up a run. If the deal is there, Garland can be moved. I'll step up to the plate on that one. I believe, barring injury, Garland's value will just continue to climb for a couple of years. He's always had the talent, and this year, he finally learned how to pitch. He's just coming into his own as a big time pitcher.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Yea, her description is that it feels like they're putting about 20,000 volts of electricity through your spine and that it burns like crazy. I couldn't imagine. I hope I never have to find out. But after that experience, she is swearing up and down no drugs... her mom says 'I had you both (her brother and her) without them, so you can do it.' I do think that epidurals make it "easier" but then again, what the hell do I know, I'm not in the situation. I don't know how women do it. Man, I totally agree with you. I consider giving birth the equivilent of a man trying to pass a basketball sized kidney stone.
  9. Neyer nailed it here. Consider the face first in the stands catches made by Jeter and Uribe. Consider the Jeter's was a regular season game vs. the Red Sox and Uribe's was the 26th out of the World Series clinching game. So, which one of those catches got more "love" from ESPN? I rest my case.
  10. If Cub fans get their grubby hands on those replica rings, they'll treat them like opponets home runs at Wrigley and throw them all over the field. I don't think the Sox will be that stupid.
  11. Now that the Sox have won the World Series (Did I just say that!?) I can retire as a Sox fan and get on with a healthy, productive life. NOT!!!!!

    How was your weekend?

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) yup That particular line of thunderstorms moved through here a bit earlier that night. I had a door open, listening for the "train". It was pretty damn intense.
  13. Konerko will be washed up in 3 years? Yet, in 3 years, he will still be younger than any of the guys on the list are right now, with the excpetion of Helton who's the same age Paulie will be in 3 years.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) Probably not the best time to trade him either, when you look at what's on the market. You can sign Rafael Furcal (even though he'll cost ya 36/4-40/4), sign Johnny Damon, or trade for Juan Pierre (who'd be an excellent candidate to bounce back like Pods). The 2006 off-season certainly makes more sense on that regard. That and the fact our young guns in the minors will have another year of experience under their belts.
  15. I look for Pods to be with us in '06. Betting he'll be trade bait after the '06 season.
  16. QUOTE(kevin57 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) I'll send you one. Tell me where to send it. PM headed your way.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Football players can get cut at any time and their contracts aren't guaranteed. Also, football players typically have a shorter period of time to make their big money than athletes in other sports because of injuries and the wear and tear on their bodies. When owners decide to give guaranteed contracts in the NFL then players should be ripped on for holding out. Until then I think the players have every right to hold out for more money especially if they are proven quantities (TO, Walker, etc.) rookies I don't have quite the same sympathy for but if I was them I would hold out for as much money as possible because who knows if they will ever see a second contract. Football players, at least the best ones, usually sign contracts that include massive signing bonuses up front. So, now you can have a case of a guy getting a big signing bonus one year, then holding out the next because he's "underpayed".
  18. Can't see what we need with Doug when we have Gload.
  19. Thanks for all the BDay wishes folks. Much appreciated.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) Something like that probably seems the best option, or he'll get something around the 3-4M I'd say. My thoughts on Thomas put simply are this. History shows, he doesn't put up good numbers coming back from a major injury. He's almost at the end of his career, we shouldn't be relying on him sorely to be our DH. We need another good option in there. That is pure BS.
  21. Had to like the comment about having 9 other fingers.
  22. I like how he assumed we wouldn't be able to sign Konerko. Yet, he assumed that Cleveland would be able to sign Millwood. To be honest, I'd think our chances of signing PK are better than the Tribe's chances of signing Millwood.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) You are the only one who has asked me. Not "people". Secondly, I know this because I follow this team, and I know that Gload is hated by the org, expecially KW and Ozzie. Its the same reason why they didnt bring him up to play this year, and gave him no chances. They flat out dont like him, anyone who follows this team is privy to this information. Take this post, copy it, learn it. Wow. I think you are making a hell of an assumption here. I believe Gload was a "piece that didn't fit into the puzzle" as far as the Sox ML roster goes. Offensively, they could have used him. But defensively, he didn't fit. We didn't need a full time backup for Paulie and Gload is not what you'd consider for a late-inning defensive replacement in the outfield. Put yourself in Gload's place. He put very respectable numbers in 2004 with the Sox. He then believes he'll be with the team in '05, in part because Ozzie said that he was a part of the team. He gets injured, heals, then goes down to AAA and tears it up down there. Yet, things were going so well in Chicago that they never made the move to call him up. Wouldn't you get frustrated enough to say something if some "journalist" caught you in a bad moment and yanked your chain? Whether or not Gload ever plays for the Sox again is unknown at this point, but to say the organization hates the man is beyond ludicrous in my opinion.
  24. Ladies and gentleman, we need to figure out a way to save these videos at Soxtalk for posterity. There is some awesome work that's been done by Soxtalk members and it only seems appropriate that Soxtalk would be the place to go view them in the future.
  25. Damn! I'd sure like to get my hands on one of these.
