I hope Kelly can come back with his full health and effectiveness. From what I've seen of the guy, he was dripping with class.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) I knew somebody would appreciate the wisdom of that post.

Oakland is the type of team that Jenks doesn't need to face just yet. They are patient at the plate almost to a fault. After he gets established in the ML, then ok. But as of now, Oakland will eat him alive.

Freddie's pitching during the day. He'll shut them down.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Not a chance. He's gonna sign a deal very similar to Sexson's. This organization realizes that he doesn't belong here. He fits the mold of this team as much as Mo Vaughn does. Konerko will sign a deal with the Yankees or Red Sox or some other team with money to throw away. There's absolutely no chance Konerko stays here. I know you don't want to see it happen, but I think it will. We'll see.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 07:05 AM) Yes and have you watched Inge play except for the games he has played us? Before you asked it back I have. Crede is a solid glove at 3B but he overated defensively on this message board so much. Conversely, I think Crede is drastically underrated on this message board.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) They sent the $3 mil that remained of Joses' signing bonus, we still have to pay his $7 mil this yr and $8 mil next yr. That $1 mil limit may be more by now and the commish can always approve a bigger amount but he's been hesitant to do so(that was one of the reasons the ARod to Boston deal fell thru). Now things got weird with the Sosa deal which makes me unsure but I believe they were able to send all that money because it involved a trade clause bonus and not just straight salary. It was the MLBPA that put the screws to the ARod to Boston deal, not the commish.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Wonder what year? Very nice gesture. This year, of course.

A dollar to a donut says our starting 1B on opening day 2006 is .... Paul Konerko.

To address a couple of points made in this thread... Crede is not an Ozzie ball player? Ozzie ball is all about defense. There is no one better at 3B in the AL today. No one. Ozuna made as many errors today as Crede's made all year. Omar Vizquel has not lost his range. He's still a one of the best SS in the game. However, I am afraid that could happen to him at any time. I wouldn't trade Uribe straight up for Vizquel. No way. As part of a package deal, maybe. It all depends on the rest of the package. JimH does make a good case for Vizquel over Uribe for this year, but personally, I'd stick with Uribe.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) Why must you live in the past. Live in the now. Now take your pill and go to bed. PS MRs. Quickmans comments were out of line considering we just talked about all that at home. Therefore, she should not have jumped on it, the only reason she did is because you like to play the hero and say I save Quickman from wasting all his tickets. Then she gets on my ass. Otherwise she has no clue what is there or not there. Do you think for one minute I tell her any of this stuff? Your nuts. The words of a man who has some lessons to be learned, yet.

A trade I'd lokk at trying to make would be to ship Timo and a mid-grade pitching propect to the Pirates for Lawton. He's on the block. The Pirates would save about $3M in salary and Timo could be Lawton's replacement. We'd upgrade that LH bat off the bench.

I am not all that familiar with Day, but I'm not real impressed with what I see. I hope Kenny's getting more out of this deal if he's sending both cash and prospects.

There were two reasons I didn't read this article.... 1. The Cubs 2. Jeff Gordon Not much else needs to be said.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:50 AM) I would not do it. Uribe plays good/bad in stretches. He proved that last year. Here we have a young ss with above average D who hit .283 and 23 hrs and has decent speed. You want to trade him straight up for the aging vizquel? Are you nuts? Uribe is not hurting us as much as people tend to think. If Vizquel were 2 years younger then yes. Plus why trade for a guy who didn't think much about signing here 7 months ago? I don't want him. I am also tired of getting former indians past their prime. People in cleveland are laughing at us. I wouldn't do it, either. I was just stating the Giants should be thrilled with an offer like that.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:51 AM) I'm on the east-central coast of Florida, so we will get next to none of the major impacts from Dennis - A few inches of rain and some gusting. I hope your family's place makes out OK and I'll be thinking about you. I have friends in Mobile that evacuated inland last night (probably up your way by now, Rex!) who are already tired of the season. My friend's husband couldn't go with them because work hasn't let him off - and he works in a friggin' Office Max! Yeah, somebody might need to go out in the middle of a Cat3/4 storm for some copy paper. He'll probably just hunker down in his parents block home, rather than trying to ride it out in their 100-year old wood-frame/siding house. Stay safe everybody. I'm afraid I'd have to tell somebody to kiss my ass. Insuring the safe evacuation of my family would come before anything else.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:29 AM) I'll be the first to pose a question or two. So here goes: 1] how would you feel about a trade involving basically, Omar Vizquel and Juan Uribe? 2] Would it take say a bullpen arm like Bajenaru along with Uribe to make it worth SF's while? 3] Would SF even want Uribe [though getting a 25 yr old who can start at both SS and 2B is hard to find]? They should be thrilled with an offer of Uribe for Vizquel ... straight up.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) Soxy.. apparently they didn't get the memo on the importance of width. Is that a beer can in my pocket or am I just happy to see you?

I totally agree with Kass. Fortunately for Spain, they'll never be faced with having to understand just what the caved in to. For that to happen, the terrorists will have to actually win their jihad against the US and Britain, and then when they turn their eye on Spain and begin to force their radical version of Islam on those people, then it would all hit home.

If the Hawks were going to hire a former star player it would have been Denny Savard. I like this Yawney hire, though. I don't care about media impact, I want the Hawks to play some good hockey for a change.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) Ive seen him a few times, you know whenever minorleaguebaseball.com shows the games, also I have read a lot of stuff about him and im on this board a lot so I know about our prospects. And a course I see Rowand everyday. From everything ive seen and read about him leads me to believe he is the superior fielder also has a great arm. That's cool. Some people make statements like that, but they have no clue what they are talking about. At least, you have an informed opinion.

QUOTE(PutItOnTheBoard @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:58 AM) i have no respect for people who arent loyal to their team....people who hop on and off badwagons make me fuccin sick to my stomach Some people just aren't cut out to be die hard sports fans. More likely, they are fans of being entertained. A concert here, a movie there, a ballgame this week, etc. I can't disrespect people for that. Unless, they try to ACT like die hards when they don't know s*** about the team. You know .... like Cub fans.

Agreed. This is kinda lame.
