Maybe the Pods All Star vote thing opened JR's eyes to what kind of fan base he has. Perhaps things are changing.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) There are 3 points with Borchard that I think need to be hammered home again: 1. He's out of minor league options. Therefore, if we even think about bringing him up, we can't send him back down again without him clearing waivers. 2. People keep wanting to give him Timo's roster spot, but if we give Gload Harris's spot, El Duque and Marte get Jenks and Walker's spots...that leaves us 0 spots open if KW decides to make any sort of a trade, which means that again, Borchard would have to clear waivers to come up. 3. Borchard seems to me like he does this every year. He finds his swing in AAA and starts hammering the ball, then he comes up, loses his swing, and suddenly ends up hitting .200 for the next year. He then finds his swing, comes back up, and loses it again. What do I think we should do with Borchard? If anyone's willing to give us anything of value for him, I think we should take it. If not, then I think he gets the whole year in AAA ball to get his head together, let him (hopefully) keep nailing the ball, and either try to move him in the offseason or give him the opportunity in the Spring to try to EARN himself a roster spot next year. There's always the possibility that Anderson won't be ready next year (people still keep talking about holes in his swing), and if that's the case, Borchard could be a serviceable option as a backup OF, especially if Everett leaves. Borchard can be promoted and sent down as many times as the Sox want to this year. Next year is where the problem occurs.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) because it could be a foreshadow of what is to come I think it's known we are trying to get Burnett. It won't foreshadow getting Day from the Nats.

QUOTE(wallyburger @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) I am all for bringing Joe up. Timo be gone. With Ozzie's penchant for resting players, Joe can be used in spot starts and late innings. Never could figure out why they haven't worked him out at first some. If he is going to wallow in the minors, what is the point of saving him. Make him the 4th outfielder and give him some confidence. Timo is so weak. It is time for Joe. I won't even go that far. I wouldn't bring up Borchard just because Timo sucks. If JB is not going to be an upgrade, then don't do it.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) Predictions for the series? I say we'll split. That's all we NEED to do. 3 out of 4 would be nice, but if we split, they can't gain on us. -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) what do you guys think of the fact that we were almost involved in the nats deal for preston wilson? sounded like it woulda been a big 4 way deal or so, with us giving col prospects, wilson to nats, chisox gettin day, and then spinning day off for "bigger acquisition." to me since the marlins/giants are looking for a major league ready pitcher, and we dont wanna give up bmac, this sounds like it had burnett/schmidt written all over it Why speculate now? It didn't happen.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) Borchard sympathizer... No, I'm a White Sox sympathizer. If he can't help the team, then they can jettison his ass. And Steff ....

QUOTE(cubbiesuck13 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:40 AM) Last year was last year and the year before and the year before etc... I don't know how bringing him up would be an improvement on the quality of game they are playing or the chemistry or anything that would even remotely make sense. I like Borchard personally. I watched him play a couple years ago against the Norfolk Tides. It was the first game after he was sent down and he played hard, had a smile on his face the whole game and I could see him in the dugout rooting on his team. He was really into the game. That speaks volumes about him as a person but unfortunately he sucks as a MLB player. You are missing my point. For some reason, he has started hitting the ball. Has he finally shortened his swing and learned to drive the ball where it's pitched? I don't know if this is the case, but you don't know that it's not. Hence, my reference to KW and the scouting staff. Last year, he sucked as a ML ballplayer, yes. I'll give you that. Will he suck the rest of this year? Neither of us knows that.

QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) IMO, he was playing last year with absolutely no pressure and couldn't get it done. I honestly don't see helping this team at all. The point is that if KW and the scouting dept thinks he could help the team, then why the hell not? Last year was last year. Randy Johnson was Cy Young quality. This year he's not even close. Based on last year, would you have predicted Brian Roberts leading the AL in BA at the break?

QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) Joe Borchard seems like a stand up guy. He has said all the right things regarding his situtaion and not producing. But the bottom line is this, IMO. He was given a very legitimate chance last season when Maggs went down. The Sox were virtually out of it and holding auditions for the following season and Joe dropped the ball big time. He is out of chances with The Sox, IMO. Sell now, while his stock is somewhat high. PS- I' saying this and i was a Joe Borchard fan. Why should he be considered out of chances if he may help this years club? It makes no sense to me.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) God I can't stand it when people completely ignore the facts in order to brand Spain as cowardly against the Terrorists because they got out of Bush's little debacle in Iraq. The traditional Republican "Fact-less" narrative on the Spanish elections is that only Aznar's pro-Bush party would protect them, and electing the other party is a cave in to the terrorists because of the bombings. Let's look at the actual facts. 1. The polls in the Spanish election were incredibly close leading up to the election. The last official polling was done a week beforehand, and the polls basically were within the margin of error. There were even some polls showing the Socialists pulling ahead before the bombings. 2. After the election...people did exit polls, just like they do in this country. Do you know what the most common reason given for why new people turned out or why people switched their votes was? It wasn't to get out of Iraq, or to cower before Al Qaeda. It was that the Aznar government had immediately tried to jump to the conclusion that it was done by ETA and literally tried to cover up evidence that it was an Al Qaeda strike until after the election. Unlike this country...it seems that the Spaniards actually mind it when their leaders openly lie. 3. Here's the biggest one...when Spain pulled those troops out of Iraq, guess what the next move they made with their army was...they took a good chunk of the troops they pulled out of Bush's war in Iraq and pushed them into Afghanistan. You remember Afghanistan...the country that was actually harboring the people who attacked us? You argue that Spain surrendered to the terrorists. How exactly is it a surrender to the terrorists to put troops into the place where Osama Bin Laden (Remember him?) actually was based. By focusing on the words "caved in to" and writing a big spiel about those three words, you missed or chose to ignore the main point. While your head is buried in the sand, Al Qaeda will be looking to stick a bomb up your ever exposed ass. Have a nice day.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Are you trying to tell me that "Curry lacking heart" is a genuine insight on your part? I'd imagine that you have to be a rocket scientist to notice these things? And what's so ironic about it? I'd say the reference to irony is due to the fact that his heart is what's causing the health issues.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) I had actually forgotten about the trade thread, so I didn't even know we were that interested in Burnett... Damn, that thread grows quickly...I don't bother to read through it... Only 2 more days until we start a new one.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) He's been very bad imo. The guy is our cleanup hitter and he's batting under .250. That's not the thing that bothers me the most, the thing that has bothered me with Pauly is the fact he makes big out, he has rarely came through when we have needed him. As far as making the allstar team, as has been said the AL first basemen have been very weak this year, also he got in due to some name recognition. He got in because he's one of the AL's best. If not, he wouldn't have gotten in.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) man, we talked about this s*** all day Stop talking about it. Let the thread die.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) Konerko deserves some of the grief he's getting. Nobody is saying he doesn't play hard cause he does but he has been absolutely terrible this year. Plus the fact he's batting cleanup and has killed a ton of rallies. As far as scotty it's not just his steals he does so much for this team. He's got a very solid on base percentage and most of all with him he gets in pitchers heads. He gets on base you always get a few balls thrown over to first, then you'll see a slide step or a quick pitch to keep him from going, next thing you know there is a hanging curveball deposited into the left field bleachers. Bulls***. Konerko has not been terrible. He has not lived up to hopes and expectations, but he hasn't been terrible. I don't care how undeserved some may think it is, you do not make the All Star team as the third player from your team without being somewhat deserving.

I don't care how unsuccessful a player has been in the past, if he can help us win this thing I'm all for bringing him up. There comes a time for some players when things finally click. Is this Joe Borchard's time? I don't have a clue. But then, I'm not paid to know whether or he has clicked. KW and the scouts are paid for that and if they think he be of value to this team off the bench, then so be it. I don't care about his trade value. Let him sit on the bench and his trade value plummet, if he can supply a power threat late in the game as a pinch hitter.
