Record Catfish Caught in Alton, IL
YASNY replied to doUrememberwhen's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(TheDybber @ May 25, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) I saw him on ESPN 2 this morning and he was saying he caught a 94 lb. fish before, but he likes to catch and release, so he didn't get it measured officially. To get it measured by a conservation policeman, it basically has to die. Probably don't have a place in the boat big enough and who knows where the measuring station is. What's scary is that there is probably a BIGGER catfish out there. Yikes. I live near Kentucky Dam, which is the dam on the Tennessee River that created Kentucky Lake. Local divers swear there are catfish at the base of the dam, on the "river" side of it that are so big they can't get off the bottom of the river. They sit at the spillway and eat the fish that come through it. I've heard there are 8 foot catfish there. -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) I played MLB2005 on playstation and got Oakland to trade me Hudson, Chavez and Zito for Pauly, Crede, and PTBNL. Straight up! It can happen! It really can! I hate it when somebody proves me wrong.

QUOTE(Sox1422 @ May 25, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) Koch Parque (Olestra) Ritchie But those guys weren't assholes, they just sucked.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Are fair trades off?? There was a reason that Baltimore dealt Hairston to the cubs, Roberts was not going to be traded and was untouchable. So that ruins your guess on that one. Second, with a fairly young and shallow starting rotation, you think that the Brewers would have given us one of their top three guys in that trade, not in this world, so that theory is gone. As for Jose Guillen, Im not sure if a busted up OF and some mysterious double A pitcher would have netted a starting outfielder, sounds to me like you think everyone wants our second Tier prospects for their starters, which is not the case. If you could have pulled off those deals mentioned above you would go into the hall of fame for fleecing GM's. As for whether or not it would have happened, its not likely, and I still like our team now which has the best record in the MLB, thanks I've learned not to even bother reading that garbage.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Am I the only one that doesn't understand any of that? Um ... no. The synopsis at the end makes sense to me, to an extent. The rest ...

Josh Fields the heir apparent? I keep reading this, but folks, this kid has a LONG way to go before he ever sniffs the Cell. He's not exactly tearing it up right now. We don't have an heir apparent at this point, so I wouldn't be planning on it at this point in time.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Speaking of Pierce he should be in the HOF if he played in NY he would already be in That's exactly why the mention of Pierce brought Ford to my mind. Compare their stats.

Best yet to come for White Sox ace Garland
YASNY replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) yeah, that is kind of how I think...I don't think there are more than a handful of aces out there...and I think I stopped thinking of Buerhle as an ace when he had that horrible start to 2003. I was referring to the Zito remark that Wedge made. He earned the title of "ace". I also feel he has since lost it. -

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) I have never seen Billy Pierce pitch but is he a similar pitcher to Buehrle. anyone know. That brings another lefty mind ... Whitey Ford.

Cy Young awards have a tendency to influence people's definition of "ace". -
The part of this column that concerned me, was Mariotti saying that it would be bad business on JR's part to sign Ozzie and not Skiles. If Ozzie has job security issues and Skiles ends up in an extended negotiation, this could last long enough that Ozzie starts feeling some pressure and starts making decisions based on the pressure, which could start a snowball effect ... and totally f*** up this season.

The Jimmy Key comparison is also solid. Not having dominant stuff, but is tough and gets the job done.

The key to this issue, if they choose to keep BMac up, is how he is used. He should never sit 10 days without pitching. Whenever BMac is brought into a game, it should be with the idea that he will finish the game. He'll throw strikes and challenge hitters, so he should perform well. BMac could be that top 20 reliever that Juggernaut thinks we need to acquire. But then, someone said we "needed" a RH long reliever. Apparently, Ozzie and KW disagreed as we had one in Adkins, and sent him down in ST.

QUOTE(Be Good @ May 24, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) LOL. Iguchi should not be getting all these days off. He's been the most consistent hitter on this team. And the Oz needs to stop benching him vs Lefties. He's hitting .300+ plus agaisnt lefties just as he is righties. Willie should play 3B,SS,CF very occasionally I disagree about Iguchi. You have to remember that the Japanese baseball season is not as long as MLB, plus the extreme difference in travel amounts here. Add to that the fact that he's constantly making adjustments to new ballparks, new pitchers, new circumstances. That kind of stuff can wear a player down physically and mentally over the long hual. Ozzie is trying to keep fresh and keep him sharp. You have to think about all those games we still have vs. Minnesota late in the year. We want a still effective Iguchi for those games. Ozzie has to think about more than just today's game as he's managing this team.

Jim Thome is a great hitter, but Cleveland was worried that his back wouldn't last more than 3 years. This is year 3 and Thome's out with a bad back. No thanks. Way too risky.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 25, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) We might as well just start calling Vizcaino, Professor Gas Can. Professor Tear Gas Can

BMac and Crede for Chavez? I'd have to seriously consider it, and negotiate my ass off trying to hold on to BMac, or get something else, very sloid, thrown in. Maybe BMac,Crede and Tracey for Chavez and Blanton? I don't know. I believe JR would ok the deal for Chavez, as letting PK walk makes up for a large portion of Chavez, salary and Crede is Boras client. A replacement 1b is a helluva lot easier to find than a quality replacement 3B. The proposed Clemens deal in this thread ... not in this lifetime. Clemens probably could be had, and he may even agree to come to Sox with their great start, but that is way too much to give up for half a year of a pitcher that's a year and a half past his first retirement.

QUOTE(Pastime @ May 25, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) Yes. It just took 34 years for things to finally be just where I want them. Seriously, it's better than waiting 44 years. Whew! If only the Sox could just MAKE the World Series, life would be sweeter than sugar. I hear that!

QUOTE(Pastime @ May 25, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) In my infinite wisdom, I have learned to never HATE any player - any player who is in MLB obviously has the talent to be there. However, I do have two guys who I would like to see elsewhere. I think Vizcaino should be the mopup guy in the bullpen or sent to Charlotte - he needs to regain his focus on how to pitch in the majors. I think that Timo is a nice player - for another team. He's just roster fodder to me. I don't want anyone "gone" because I hate them - I just want the best possible roster for the White Sox. There have been 3 players to wear the Sox uniform that I learned to despise. Jaime Navarro Royce Clayton D'Angelo Jiminez I'll not apologize for that, as they were, and probably still are, low life scum.

QUOTE(Pastime @ May 25, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) Everything is wonderful. I am still happily married, a college graduate (finally), and I'm going for my Master's Degree. I still travel 3X a year, and am as happy as ever. To top it all off, the White Sox are kicking ass. What more could I ask for? (Besides being famous)? It sounds like you have things going your way.

If anyone says that Carl Everett is dogging it, they know nothing about the man.

QUOTE(Pastime @ May 25, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) Even the best hitters are only successful 30% of the time ........ Aaron will be fine. Look at his numbers over his career (even though it's a small sample size) - he's a slow starter who heats up as the weather does. Before this season is over, we'll be singing his praises. He's too good of a hitter to believe otherwise. Good evening, Yasny. I hope all is well with you and yours. Hiya Pastime. Yes, all is well. Thank you and I trust everything is going well, as well.
