  1. Of course, I hope this guy works out. Yet, I was hoping they'd take that Texas A&M SS that Oakland took a few picks later. Oh well.
  2. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) Lets just enjoy that masterpiece for what it was and not worry about who felt Freddy might struggle. What fun is that?
  3. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:50 AM) Well I know two of our sweeps this year are against the Royals. I'm not really impressed. The Blue Jays sweep was really nice to see, although we tried to give that one away the last game too. Oh, I don't know. I'm kind of impressed with our 38-19 record.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) Umm I think you are thinking of major league, where Willie Mays Hayes takes a lead they all chant go go go. Umm. No. He knows what he is talking about. Old Comiskey Park used to rock to the Go Go chant. I can still hear it .... Aparicio takes his lead off first .... and the crowd "Go Go Go Go Go Go"
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 05:05 AM) Oh YAS.. the irony in pointing out how little some fans really know.. Sometimes, it seems that there is little or no thought put into some of these posts. But then, I should be used to it by now.
  6. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Here's another gem from Ozzie. Now I understand why we don't finish off any sweeps. Nice attitude Oz. Actually there is a little more you can do. You could start by not playing eenie meeni minie moe with your lineup card on the last game of each sereis. Are we forgetting the fact that we have a couple of 8-game winning streaks under our belt already? Those are difficult to accomplish without a sweep or two mixed in.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) ...ozzie have hermanson throw the intentional walk before he left rather than have vizcaino who relieved him ( and has control probaems in the first place) throw his first four pitches for a ball. I didn't read the game thread at all so i don't know how every one else felt abotu this. But i was just sitting there saying wtf kind of move is this... as bad as it gets in my opinion. Sure it didn't hurt us in this case but that is not the point. It is just inexcusable if you ask me. Having the new reliever issue the intentional walk to the first batter is not an uncommon occurance. I've noticed it (and questioned it) several times over the years. There are two reasons that I can think of to somewhat explain why this is done. First, the new pitcher gets 4 pitches from the actual mound he'll be pitching from as opposed to the bullpen mound while the IBB is being issued. Also, by having the new pitcher issue the IBB, it gives him a bit more incentive to quell the rally, as that runner would be charged to him is he happens to score. Edited to add: My "reasons" were purely speculation on my part.
  8. We have a 13 page thread based on a speculative article. Thomas is not tradable for anything worthwhile at this point. I disagree with those that say we wouldn't get much for Everett. He's a proven ML hitter that's just struggling at the moment. He certainly has value. I don't see the Sox moving either of them at this point in time. This week is going to be wasted as far as getting either of them any significant number of at bats. Then we'll have to see over a span of 3 weeks or so if either one of these two gets into a groove. It should also give us some insight onto Frank's health. I know this much. If Frank Thomas can be anything close to his normal self, he's exactly what this team needs to bolster the lineup. He makes the guys around him better and adds significant OBP numbers. I'm not against trading Frank if trading Frank will help this club get to the promised land. I don't buy into that icon stuff when a title is on the line. However, I don't see us getting anything for Frank that will help us as much as Frank would.
  9. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Kinda off topic here, but what does IIRC mean? IIRC, it means, if I remember correctly.
  10. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) I could not believe how many people kept saying his off speed stuff would simply not work in the lite air and he would get his brains beaten in A lot of those people, ironically, also said Shingo would get hammered too with his off speed stuff. Oh the irony as Shingo pitched one scoreless inning too Inability to change speeds is not the problem in Coors. It's the inability to get any bite on a breaking pitch. To me, changing speeds would be a necessity while pitching there, as that would theoritically be the only effective pitch other than a heater.
  11. I'll add my voice to the "no on Gary Glover" contingent.
  12. I love the thread title. I say things to this effect quite often in here. Like, when someone thinks they would be a great GM.
  13. I don't think that Guardado would be handed the closer's job, if acquired. I believe Ozzie would still take the approach of going with his gut instinct or the hot hand, based on matchups.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 04:16 AM) Real classy, qwerty. :headshake
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) Frank's said many, many, many times that money is not his driving factor.. and even went so far in, IIRC, '01 to say that he was not being greedy and that his comments were taken out of context.. I've never seen him say anything like.. "I just had a monster year.. now pay me".. Even now it's "I want to retire here" and not a peep about $$. Regardless.. I don't agree with it. In the past 10 years I have never witnessed behavior that would imply that at all. But you have the right to your opinion.. even though it's wrong. I acknowledged the possibility that I may be wrong about this. In the pre-Soxtalk era, the media was the only source of information I had for several years.
  16. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) Out of curiousity, does anybody remember any of the rumors when we were trading for Garcia, specifically, which players at that time were being rumored to go to Seattle? I don't think anybody here anticipated Miguel Olivo being part of any trade discussions. That was a stunner.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) I don't agree with that one bit.. Well, Steff, of course I don't have the option to talk to the man from time to time, but I've been watching the Sox throughout Frank's whole career and I have seen many Frank Thomas quotes that have led me to that conclusion. Mistaken or not, that's the way I have read that particular situation.
  18. I believe Shingo will be the odd man out when the time comes.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:26 AM) How are the White Sox a fit for Preston Wilson? We are already trying to figure out what to do with Everett when Frank is actually healthy enough to play, what would we do with Wilson? Great minds ...
  20. I don't see why the Sox are a potential fit, unless Jermaine Dye is part of the deal.
  21. I'm no "apologist" for Ozzie. Ninety percent of the time when someone on here b****es about a move Ozzie makes, I roll my eyes because those that b**** are more concerned with a single tree than with the whole forest. Ozzie cannot bring in Dustin Hermanson every time there is a threat to to a particular game. He cannot play the 9 best hitters every day. That kind of thinking is exactly what caused the downfall of the 1969 Cubs. Durocher played the same guys day after day and in mid-August they ran out of gas.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) What choice would he have? Clearly if he stays around he's not going to get paid what he has been and if that doesn't sit well with him then who else is going to cough that kind of coin for an aging veteran who's been hurt as much as he's played since like 2001? Money might not be the most important factor, though Frank has always equated money with respect. It's impossible to say what kind of choices Frank will have.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) What a piece of s*** article. He totally forgets who Frank Thomas's biggest fan is, Jerry Reinsdorf. Frank Thomas will get a reduced deal done after he is bought out, book it. That is, if Frank will accept a reduced contract. He may be getting tired of the BS.
  24. There is no logical reason whatsoever to even consider adding Mondesi to the Sox. I'd rather add Borchard to the team.
  25. Brantley and Phillips have consistantly ripped Ozzie and the Sox. It's to the point that I totally disregard anything either of them have to say about the Sox. Mariotti, of course, is in a classs all his own when it comes to the Sox. If Ozzie would have held out for more money he would have spun it that Ozzie has his own agenda over the success of the team after such a great start. He would have criticized Ozzie for using the great start to his advantage, when it was the players that accomplished it all. Mariotti is a chump. Period.
