  1. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Not a problem, and I knew that you were cutting and pasting it. I think Anderson would be in Chicago by now if his OBP was .488. I knew he had been taking a lot of walks, so I didn't really put much thought into it. In retrospect, my bad.
  2. Nebraska just eliminated Miami. It looks like Tennessee will take out Georgia Tech. They lead 10-1 in the 6th with a 1-0 series lead.
  3. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Konerko+much improvement still does not = GG I didn't say it did. I was just trying to give the guy some credit, if in fact, it was due.
  4. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Um, Anderson is slugging .488. His OBP is .360. I just cut and pasted what was printed. Thanks for correcting that.

    QUOTE(skidoochic @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Thanks! No charge.
  6. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) I agree you can't count them out, but it's hard to say whether they are anything other than a .500 ballclub. They had one hot streak, but outside of that, they have sucked - big time. Veterans are one thing, but many of their players may just be washed up. If Brown and Johnson don't turn it around, their careers might be over. Mussina and Pavano have underperformed, and Wright has been disaterous. The pitching staff sucks - plain and simple - though Rivera & Gordon have gotten back on track. The lineup isn't bad, but Williams and Matsui are underperforming, and Giambi is a lost cause. I won't dismiss the Yankees at this point, but they may very well be as bad as they are playing. Too many overpaid old guys on that team. The Yankees are in for some tough times. They are old and old players don't get better.
  7. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Tom Seaver never played for the 83 Sox he came over in 84 and was traded to Boston in 86 I said only four hours earlier in the most recent post.
  8. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) OF doesn't go by position. So even if Torii grabs a GG ARow can too. And the thought of Konerko winning a GG... I have read on a couple of occasions that Konerko is much improved this year. I don't get to see many games, so I can't say one way or the other.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) Curious on this one. Was he difficult or uncooperative re: an interview request for this site? Or was it something else? I remember sitting out in one of the front row bleachers last year, he walked by in pregame along the track. I said "hey Neal ... love ya at SoxTalk" and boy did he give me the stink eye. Just call it a hunch, but it might be all those "Neal Cock" or "Cotts sucks balls" or "f*** Cotts, he sucks" remarks that used to pop up here quite often. I hate that kind of s***, and it's for that very reason. Steff has said some players lurked here and did not appreciate what they saw happening. The way I approach this sight is that if I wouldn't say something to a player's face while sitting in a bar, I won't say it here.
  10. QUOTE(sayitanitso @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) I was just thinking about this. With the team ERA being second in the ML, when Kevin Walker was on the team and then we sent him down to AAA, would his ERA for the time he played with us stay here or does it go away like he was never here. He pitched for the Sox so his ERA is included.
  11. QUOTE(sayitanitso @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) I think the Stauffer guy is a rookie, our past success against rookies isn't good, but this is a different team then the ones in years past. That was so "last year".
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) As usual, a classy post from Jim. Certainly expected, as always. My main reaction was to the fact that people from the Sox organization don't like the EAT s*** phrase. If they don't, understandable. But at the same time, why not address that kind of language from the man who is the face of your organization who is saying much worse things than EAT s***. I think Nuke is pretty tame on the boards compared to the chat. The same goes for myself and many others. The chat is certainly overboard at times in terms of what goes on. I am sure that if we got together and decided that for the best interest of the board we cut out the catch phrase, Nuke would have no problem eliminating it. For now, I think its fine as long as it doesn't go any farther or include personal insults towards anybody. It's a fine line around here trying to make things lenient for folks and not becoming another WSI. For the most part, I think we walk the line fairly well and try to keep discussion very open between mods and admins when things need to be cleaned up or taken care of. Steff did not say people from the front office have lurked here. She said players have and they have commented about the amount of vulgarity. The players have no say about Ozzie's "saltiness" whatsoever. Considering those facts, your argument leaves something to be desired. Respectfully intended, of course.
  13. If we have any gold glovers it will be from the left side of our infield or Jon Garland.
  14. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Dwight Eisenhower was President. The original Mayor Daley was in office. The White Sox finished second to the Yankees in the AL and Billy Pierce was a 20 game winner. The Braves from Milwaukee would beat the Yankees in the World Series in 7 games. The year was 1957. Do I get a prize? Spahn and Sain and pray for rain.

  18. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) Hey Yas! Do you remember a pitcher in...I think it was 1976 or so, named Pablo Torealba? The Sox brought him up, and the guy was so bad that after moaning and moaning over and over about him, that Harry Carray made the quote on live broadcast "Pablo Torealba.......Where do they get these guys??" Another pitcher that comes to mind is Juan Agosto (back then.......nicknamed Juan Dis-gusto). I remember both of those names. But Navarro still remains at the top of my "most hated list".
  19. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) Can't forget that they also had Seaver in there to not only solidify the rotation, but also of how much his experience helped the young staff! With Fisk behind the plate on top of that....... I agree! HANDS DOWN! The best ever! Seaver came to the Sox between 83 and 84.
