  1. QUOTE(Iguana @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) why not let Widge DH? Because Widger is our backup catcher. If AJ gets hurt, and Widger has to catch, then we lose the DH for the duration of the game.

  3. That was one of the most enjoyable reads I've had in ages.
  4. QUOTE(Y2HH @ May 25, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) There are HUGE catfish there. I go to LBL (Land Between the Lakes all the time), as a matter of fact, I'm going there the week of June 1st - 5th for some camping/fishing! I'd look you up, but I'm going to be in the DFW area that week. Maybe next time.
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 25, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) He didn't really have to worry about resigning them yet. He could have easily kept both of them and taken another shot at the division. As badly as they have played, they'd be in much better shape with those two still on the team. But he decided that he had to break up the team now and try to rebuild it. Even if he dealt Hudson, he could have kept Mulder. If it didn't work, the packages he could get for those pitchers near the trade deadline wouldn't be that different than the ones he got. I said it at the time, I didn't get trading Mulder. If they kept him, you'd still have gotten some prospects out of it and still had a pretty impressive top 3 in Mulder, Zito, and Harden, with a top prospect coming up in Blanton, and either Meyer or Haren depending on which deal he took. Did he really need that extra pitching prospect badly enough to basically tank this season? I don't see how. His baseball decisions have been questionable in the past outside of fleecing us on the Foulke deal, and it's finally showing now that two of his aces are gone. I would venture to guess that Beane knew he was going to trade Hudson and Mulder before the season was out, because he could not afford to let that kind of pitching talent just walk away. So, trading them in the offseason prevented him from being put in a position to make a white-flag type trade. The Sox still haven't lived that one down.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) There was no one worse than Jaime Navarro. We gave that piece of s*** a long term contract for a ton of money, instead of Roger Clemens, and instead of being a stud, he was a complete asshole who would blame the offense for not scoring 8 runs when he gave up 7 in 2 innings. f*** Navarro. I wouldn't piss on that POS if he was on fire. :puke
  7. I look at it this way. I believe the Sox braintrust knows about their individual players than I do. If they believe the best thing forthe Sox and McCarthy is 2/3 of a season in a major league bullpen with the occasional spot start, then I'll go along with that. If the believe that he should start every 5th day, somewhere, I'll go along with that too. I certainly don't get off on my own "expert opinion" and think I'm smarter than the professionals who've been in the game, surrounded by other professionals, almost their entire lives. I know there are some misguided individuals here that believe they are smarter than the pros, (one particular self proclaimed genious comes to mind) but I'm not one of them.
  8. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ May 25, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Thanks. Fan since '67. (I turned 10 years old that September. Right about the time the Sox blew the pennant.) Cut my teeth in the gawd awful years of '68 through '70. I turned 10 in Novenber of that year, but I can say for sure that I was a Sox fan as far back as 1964. Probably even earlier, but I can't remember any particular thing that I can pinpoint as earlier that has to do with baseball or the Sox.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 26, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) Are you as sad as i am that you missed most of it? I'm devastated. :rolly
  10. Wow. What a load of moronic, egotistical drivel. :headshake
  11. El Duque is a proven big game pitcher. Is he an ace? Ace can mean many things to many different people. I'd classify an ace as guy that can put the rest of the staff and carry them. He stops losing streaks, pitches lots of innings to rest the pen and can be counted on to pitch that clutch game. So, as of now, by that criteria El Duque is not an ace. He can be very damn valuable though, and that should be good enough. Buehrle's our ace.
  12. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ May 26, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) Count needs to have a good start if the Sox are going to win this game. He needs to pitch at least 1...2...3...4...5...6...7 innings and give up 1...2 runs or less. That is unless the offense gets going. I love it when you analyze.
  13. We are going to need some quality innings from someone other than Dusty, Marte and Cliff out of the pen before the year is over, I'm sure. Ozzie cannot afford to just give up on these other guys or wait to pitch them in blowouts. Blowouts are not our game this year. Ozzie has to try and get these guys straightened out. The only way to do that is by pitching them from time to time. Don't crucify the menager for doing his job.
  14. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) I know its fun to engage in these esoterical discussions but the fact is that the question cannot be answered until: (1) we see how McCarthy does in his next two starts (which apparently he'll get); and (2) we know the health of the other four starting pitchers when El Duque returns. I wouldn't be opposed to him going to the pen if continues to throw as well as he did Sunday. If he proves he belongs in the bigs it may be more detrimental to him mentally to send him down while we're in the midst of this great run. If in his next couple starts it becomes apparent that he has things to work on then we send him down for further development. El Duque should only miss one more start, unless you have info I haven't heard yet.
  15. Maybe, just maybe, that Ozzie and KW think having BMac in the bullpen will make this team better, this year. With this start, a go for it attitude is exactly the attitude they need to have. I'm sure this move was well thought out.
  16. Personally, I think retired numbers should be reserved for HOF'ers. I don't think Baines should have his number retired.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) I heard a while ago that baseball wanted to let Shoeless Joe into the HOF, but then the Pete Rose thing happened and killed that idea. No disrespect intended, but I find that highly unlikely.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) The yankees were the first team to put numbers on jerseys... Regulars numbers corresponed with thier position. That's why all of the The yankees retired numbers seem so low. The numbers corresponded with their spot in the batting order, not position. Babe Ruth was 3# not #9.
  19. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) When did they start putting numbers on the jerseys Sometime in the late 1920's, I think
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Not Joe, the number silly...
  21. Happy Birthday! (now where did I put that Ross Gload disguise?)
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) OMG EVEN HAWTER... Hello derek christmas island! Your Ron Mexico name, the ultimate disguise, is Big Boy Jamaica Hello Alexander Pakistan! Your Ron Mexico name, the ultimate disguise, is Rock Isle of Man. Please refer to me now as Rock Isle of Man. Ok, Rock I Love Man ... that's your new name!
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) That makes it easy to retire He didn't retire. He was banned.
  24. There are some things we people do not take seriously. Just saying.
  25. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) The Sox retire Shoeless Joe number. If MLB ever lets Pete Rose in the HOF than they have to let Shoeless in as well Joe Jackson never had a number.
