  1. I hope all you people realize we are probably pissing Mariotti off big time. I'm sure he was planning on reading through Soxtalk and laughing because he tweaked us again. :finger Mariotti.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) I guess considering it is from Mariotti, more people, mainly Sox fans are likely to jump on it and call it garbage. Hey at least, he had a go at the Cubs right? Whether he went at the Cubs ar not has nothing to do with it as far as I'm concerned. He wrote a fair assessment of the Sox. He gave them credit for their accomplishments and brought up legitmate questions that concern us all. I don't read Mariotti with an eye toward picking his work apart to see if he's being unfair toward the Sox. But sometimes, he can't help but letting his Cubluv shine through. When that happens, then I call him out ... here. Calling him out via email just gets you a smug response, if anything.
  3. I agree. I didn't have any problems with his column. He's expressed nothing more than we have here at Soxtalk.
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) At graduation it's always kinda touching when the graduates tear off their pasties and throw them in the air. Of course, they marched into the graduation to "Pump and Circumstance."
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) NO!!!!!!! THE LOGGERS AND DRILLERS WILL LEAVE THE EARTH A BARREN WASTELAND DEVOID OF ALL LIFE!!!!!!! THE AIR IS TURNING TO POISON!!!!!!! WE NEED TO START LIVING IN BUBBLES BECAUSE THE AIR IS POISON!!!!!! THE WATER IS POISON!!!!!! DONT DRINK IT OR YOU'LL DIE!!!!!!! THE EARTH IS HEATING UP SO FAST THAT WE'RE ALL GOING TO BURN AND FRY TO DEATH!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! Damn tree huggers
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) As the season goes on, there is no doubt in my mind that the move of the off season was Kenny Williams signing AJ Pierzynski. This guy has made the entire pitching staff better, and most noticably one Jose Contreras, former mental case. I believe El Duque is a major contributor to Contreras' success as well.

    gas prices

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 5, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) Kentucky has historically had some of the lowest state taxes on gasoline in the country. I am not sure if that is still the case, but in the past there was always at least a 5 or 6 cents difference when crossing the river from Indiana to Kentucky. I've noticed that gas is a few cents cheaper in the Missouri bootheel than in Kentucky, generally. I don't know if the rest of state is comparable. I would assume StL and KC are not. Georgia also has historically had gas prices noticably cheaper than Kentucky. I haven't been in the state for 3 or 4 years, but the few I did go through, it was quite a bit cheaper.
  10. I believe there would be only two untouchables on the NYY ..... Jeter and Matsui. Possibly ARod, but I think they'd consider that possibility. Williams is on his last legs and we don't need a 4th outfielder. Rivera is a possibility and could be of immense value to the Sox. Sheffield is another one, but we'd almost have to move Dye in the deal. I think Tino would retire before accepting a deal. The Big Unit ... interesting idea, but scary as well.
  11. That so called bridge burning bible thumper also happens to be the only guy who was not a current member of the Sox organization to stand up for Sox fans after the Ligue-Gamboa fiasco. He told KC media and teammates that Sox fans were great fans and not to judge us based on the Ligues. Tony Graffinino is more than welcome in my book. Thank you.

    The Feelings

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ May 6, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) LMAO. I leave for like 5 minutes and the post total for this thread goes from 37 to 79? Go away again. We were having fun.
  13. Of course there is no thought of that. Ozuna has been used as a pinch runner twice since he got hurt. Therefore, he cannot be post-dated.

    The Feelings

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 6, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) None of that makes sense. 2004 was the most weird year. Hopefully 05 will be the most memorable. So far. so good.

    The Feelings

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) eric chavez we'll just agree to disagree Deal. Really, all I was doing was was offering a differing opinion.

    The Feelings

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) Ok thats fine. Just my opinion. What was I thinking posting my opinion on a message board? If the white sox think small , they will get small returns. I won't dare have world series dreams . silly me I didn't criticize you in any way. I just think that this idea is so "out there" that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it happeneing.

    The Feelings

From a White Sox perspective, this is still ... and I'll say it again ... illogical. Chavez would only cost BMac, Crede, Anderson-Sweeney and 44 Million dollars.

    The Feelings

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) I will have to respectfully disagree with you. A crede/top prospects package should be enough to get a star on a small market, re-building team. You are ignoring the part about Chavez being the man that Beane wants to build his team around. You are generalizing with your small market talk. Beane has already made the decision that he'll keep Chavez. I mean, Tejada is a stud and Beane choose Chavez over Tejada. Does that give any indication of the value Beane places on his stud 3b?

    The Feelings

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) No, its not. At the right price he can be had. Do you really think we don't have enough to offer? Yes. That's exactly what I think. Unless we want to rape the whole system.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 5, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Well Contreras always does well against the royals so lets see how he does against a major league team his next start, Not that he wasnt bad before but if he can go 7 innings that would be amazing because bullpen would be rested for El Duque who i dont want to see get high pitch counts so prob will have a lot of 5-6 inning games. His next start should be against Tampa Bay. Does that qualify as a major league team?

    The Feelings

Billy Beane does not give long term contracts unless the player is one that he wants to keep. He let Giambi walk. He let Tejada walk. Why would he sign Chavez just to trade him away. This is illogical.
  22. I'm not usually all gung ho about something like this, but Brooks really seems to have a feel for what being a Sox fan is all about and has had many great ideas that speak directly to Sox fans. So, count me in. He's doing an ass-kicking job.
  23. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) i dont know that i'd shake things up quite yet, also because we have it staggered L-R-L-R when we face righties.... which i'd rather leave untouched I really thought that the sarcasm was enough that I didn't need green text.
  24. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Yes a playoff game in October is the same as a KC game in April...my bad I can always CHOOSE to bundle up and go to any game I want...unless of course you'd be at the gate banishing me from the cell for not getting my 'chill on' back in April. Of course then the talking wouldn't be from a message board. It would be face to face and I have a weird feeling all the attendance bashers wouldn't come off the same way. Sometimes, there are comments made that are so f***ing stupid that they don't deserve a response. Remember that. And I'm NOT talking about your comment.
  25. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) ugh. he the second lefty. look around the league........... there are a lot of s***tier lefties. the second lefty is rarely anything that special Cotts can throw some heat, and he's young. he has gotten us out of innings. this is better than a lot of the crappy bullpen lefties i've had to survive. not every pitcher you have is going to be flawless plus i'm in favor of Guillen using Cotts as much as he can now, because last year Marte had a dead arm. this year Marte's arm is back, and i want to preserve it for the 162 NO! NO! NO! .. Don't you realize that today's game is THE most important. To hell with the long haul. :rolly
