QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) LOL I was just gonna say....... GIMMIE A HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!! I thought I'd beat you to the punch.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Umpire Gary Darling's viewpoint on when HBP should be negated: Only when the batter moves his bat such that it appears he offered at the pitch. In otherwords it's the movement of his bat & not his body that should determine whether a player attempted to avoid a pitch. http://www.goldenbaseball.com/ However, since determining effort is purely based on judgment, many umpires will only void the hit batsman call if the hitter obviously moves into the path of the pitch. That's not what the rulebook says. You need to let this go.

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Garland is the man!
-
Go get this guy, Jon.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Jon back out there. As he should be.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Let him go for the CG Ozzie! Only 88 pitches. He'll get his shot at the CGSO.
-
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Higginson's avg is now at 0.087 Garland's ERA is now 1.45.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Here is the other thing, Podsednik is not hitting great but did you ever notice, every time there's somebody on base he always gets them over? Walk, ground ball to the right place, etc. He seems to always get the job done in that respect. That's what they call a grinder.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Not if Garland continues to deal. At 78 pitches, I'm hoping Garland gets his second consecutive complete game shut out.
-
7 innings pitched and 78 pitches thrown for Garland. That's pretty damn efficient.

QUOTE(1549 @ May 1, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) I've been on these boards for 2 years and I didn't realize how over-sensitive we are when it comes to attendance. Its like someone mentions it and everyone has to duck and hide. Its not a stupid thread, its a legit question...but as history shows we will sell out a few big games on warm nights, and the cub games. s***, drawing flies is what happens when you have a less than stellar owner and a team that hasn't exactly had a history of bringing home pennants. Luckily, sports is cyclical. The cubs drew fewer than 1,000 when that neighborhood was s***ty and the team sucked ass. The yankees drew fewer than 20,000 a game in the late 80's, Despite having over 20 world series trophies and the largest market in North America. Now Wrigley and the Stadium are packed every game. If we ever win consistently we will have consistent crowds. Until then we might as well talk about our s***ty attendance because its conversation. The problem is that there is too many attendance threads. It just gets real old real fast.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 1, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) A 10 yr old umpire? Not in my day. Don't bother mentioning Chipper Jones because that's a different league where pitcher's hit. Entirely different game when it comes to HBP. It's a horrible call in the AL because it encourages retailiation by the other team. That's the only way you can respond in the AL. Keep an eye on this crew the rest of the year. I expect things to get progressively worse for them now that pitchers think they can get away with something. Don't give me that bulls***. The call was made in another game when people were saying it's never called. It gets called and we just have to live with it.

Houston wins 9-3.

QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ May 1, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) and it's safe to say our 5th starter spot in the rotation may be a bit better then it was last year... I think we will have more wins out of the 5th starters spot after today's game than we had last year.
-
If you can't win 60 ... you don't matter.
-
Garland has finally matured. I've been preaching patience for this guy for quite a while. Buehrle is the exception to the rule. He performed like a veteran with little big league experience. I knew JG had it in him, we just had to wait until he found it.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 1, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) Well i think our offense is gonna be pretty weak even at it's peak and i am positive the pitching will regress. Can i be considered a sox fan even though i am being realistic? The game thread was pretty depressing until the sox took the lead. I was thinking another day of people being all b****y. You can think whtever the hell you want to think. We have the best god damn record in th American League and you, among others, are b****ing like we are the f***ing Devil Rays.
-
I don't want to say too much, because I'm really f***ing disgusted with some of these so f***ing called Sox fans. But the god damn game isn't over in the 6th inning.
-
Great comeback win. That being said, after reading this thread, there are a lot of people around here that call themselves Sox fans that wouldn't know a real fan if one fell on them.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) The Sox offense is struggling?
-
This same situation occured to Chipper Jones tonight. Got hit in the foot, but was not awarded first base. Bases were loaded. He ended up walking so it didn't make any difference.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) Carlos has a younger brother named Carlos? That is correct. In fact, when KW acquired Podsednik from the Brewers, he traded the wrong Carlos Lee.

I heard an interview with Mark just after 11 o'clock. Mark's a funny guy. He gave up 33 dingers last year and only 2 so far this year and they asked him why. His response: "I haven't pitched much at home." They talked a little about a kangaroo court. Mark said that he got fined for not getting fined. He said they didn't have one last year and he implied that this would help in the clubhouse this year.
