  1. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) KW giving up BMac and ANderson.. and then telling us that neither were in the 3 year plan to lose.. :headshake I can't say anything because I'd end up being banned.
  2. I think harassing these people shows a lack of class and is just being inconsiderate, in general. FWIW
  3. I would disagree with both of those rules changes, though the first base rule could help the Sox this year with Podsednik and Iguchi. As for the other one, I can't see making a batter stand in the box with a gnat in his eye.

    BMAC

I'd guess he'll end up in Birmingham. I agree that we shouldn't rush this kid.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) He started pitching because he sucked ass at short. More accurately, he sucked in the batter's box.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Bingo. I've reacted to YAS many ways. But never with pity before now... Oh, that was a very temporary thing. The problem is that I did this about five years ago. I'm starting to have to consider taking such drastic steps again.

QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) It would be acceptable to say all of those things. I'm taking 'offensive' to mainly be 'rude'. Having an opinion in a discussion isn't rude. ++ This: seems to suggest otherwise. I mean, referring to Jesus as "Buddy Christ" is as offensive to some as "f**gots or n*****s" is to others. Saying "Buddy Christ" is demeaning to those of the Christian faith as much as using "f*****" is to homosexuals.
  9. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Look at number 4. B) If only that would happen in real life.... theres also a pic showing Shingo with 39 saves. No Santana?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) No offense to all the good people at Soxtalk, but you have to know what you're getting yourself into when you decide to spend your free time at a baseball fourm. This fourm, first and foremost, is a place to discuss all things Chicago White Sox. That's what it is. That's why its called "Sox Talk," and not "Everything Talk." To that end, I really don't put much stock into anything I read in the Sex, Lies and Politics forum. The truth of the matter is, if I wanted to discuss anything political or societal, I'd converse with friends, professors, or the other brillliant and respected minds here at the University. This fourm isn't a mouthpiece to spew whatever pops into your head, PC or not. Hell, if it were up to me, there wouldn't be a place for these types of discussions on this board. I come to read Sox things first, and everything else second. The crux of my arguement: if you're here to discuss geo-politics, you might be in the wrong place. That's why I made a vow to stay out of this forum as much as possible. Personally, I don't give a h00t what any of you think outside the baseball realm. For some reason, I find that a very sensible approach.

QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) 'Offensive' is a pretty subjective concept and we're not going to be able to make a clear cut definition of what is or is not offensive, but don't you think the board can draw the line somewhere between 'anything goes' and 'never say anything negative about anything ever' so that Soxtalk maintains a good atmosphere but doesn't have to be regulated over minor complaints? Most people here seem to think calling people f**gots or n*****s is inappropriate, but most don't have a problem with a Buddy Christ avatar. That's your agenda. It may not necessarily be mine. What if I believed that Christ was our Lord and Savior? What if I believed that homosexuality was an abimination against God? What if I believed that so many of the problems the black community faces is because they bring it upon themselves due to their attitudes and outlooks? Is it acceptable for me to say that I think Bill Cosby is right? Or does offending you and disagreeing with your views carry more weight than you offending me and disagreeing with mine?

I know this much. I lost 23 lbs. in 6 weeks by giving up beer and increasing my intake of water. That's all I did. IRod wasn't exactly hitting 500 foot bombs.

Seems to me that this discussion is about why some things that could be considered offensive are allowed and other things that are considered offensive are quickly and vehemently shot down. It seems levels of political correctness is directly purportional to the perspective of the membership.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) I would love to see this happen. I think if games didn't routinely run 3 hours, it might be easier to attract casual fans to watching games on a regular basis. This is an easy way to cut a few seconds an AB off of a game. I could see this saving 10-15 minutes a game. As SoxFan101 intimated, maybe this rule will simply evolve due to the fact that the habit will become ingrained while the future big leaguers come up throu the minors. Actually, implementing this rule in the minors was a damn good idea for that very reason.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) Since we have moved towards what is and isn't allowed. Let me throw this log on the fire. In the discussion as to what is and isn't allowed, consideration is given to our current members *and* visitors who may drop by, read a few posts, and are deciding to stay and become regular contributors. Call me dense, but what are you getting at here?
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) So I guess Paul Konerko isn't worth $8,750,000 either because he can't hit well away from the Cell either, even though he puts up .277, 41 HR's and 117 RBI's. You're not going to find many productive everyday players who can hit better away at a pitcher's park than one hitting at home in a hitters park. Also about Pods, he went out to a lot of fly balls at Miller Park, and that's one thing that worries me with him hitting at the Cell. He's just gotta learn to hit the ball on the ground a lot more, and try and run out some singles to get on base. Buehrle was must be worth twice as much as we are paying him since he's so much better on the road than at home.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) last week the "no gay talk" rule stopped me from making a post. I mean I was just gonna make a joke, but after I thought about it I didn't do it. I actually had it written out and then canceled it... then wrote it again then canceled it...I was torn. I hated that feeling of not being able to post what I want...especially since I know that if it was a joke about Italians, Irish, Mexicans, Religion or whatever, I wouldn't have had a second thought about posting it. I think we ... society as a whole ... is all together just to touchy about this stuff. In fact, I've been guilty of it too. I live in, and my family is from, Kentucky. Then I'd see people would get all bent out of shape if someone joked about gays, blacks or whatever, yet it was "ok" to degrade "hillbillies" with insinuations of ignorance, incest, backwardness ... and why? Because the majority of the posters at Soxtalk are "Damn Yankees" so to speak. That's one reason why I can relate to PA being upset. It's more of an issue of how "popular" a political correctness situation is as opposed to politcal correctness in general.
  20. Exactly. He's an average ... eh, perhaps mediocre ... ballplayer. But so many people come on here basically saying that he just sucks (one extreme) that others start defending him and therefore building him up (the other extreme). Weigh all these pro and con Harris posts, and you probably get an accurate balance.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) But isn't there an option to not see sigs and avatars? I like the sigs and avs. I shouldn't have to make an all or nothing choice because of one inconsiderate person.
  25. As a long term Sox fan, I can certainly understand CubKilla's point of view. I was not quite 2 years old the last time the Sox were seen in the World Series, so it's been a long hard row to hoe. That kind of disappointment, year after year, can lead to someone being slighty jaded. However, being a fan, I always look for and hope for the best every spring. I hope that one of these years all the pieces will fall into place. I hope a midseason acquisition will be the final ingredient that makes the team gel, ala Julio Cruz in '83. Basically, I think I just like drinking the Kool-Aid every spring and won't spit it out until all hope is gone.
