QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) Has there been any word on if the Sox have signed Sang Ho Moon or are they not? I think it would be a bad idea to not sign him. His reward seems to outweight his risk... He has not been signed yet, though he hung around wearing Sox gear yesterday. He's scheduled for another throwing session today.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) I just picture him sitting there, staring at all the girls, with that big smile on his face , and hot wing sauce all over himself. Priceless. Now that ^ is FUNNY!

QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 04:57 AM) With Garland, it's a double edged sword. Would you sign a guy to a long term deal based on one very good yr, after a string of mediocre ones? Or would teams be willing to overpay in the trade market, thereby getting 2 or 3 good players that could help the sox for years to come? I don't know. My guess is even if Jon has a breakout yr, he'll show some inconsistencies that will give the sox and us fans some reason to pause on a giving him a long term deal I feel his inconsistencies are due to his youth .... I know, that's getting old to hear ..... but, I still believe that. Once he does break out, he'll be a damn good pitcher for years. Of course, that's assuming he does actually break out.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) America, f*** yeah. Jesus f***ing Christ, it's the goddamn Internet and you're s***ting a brick the size of Montana. I HAVE A RIGHT TO DISLIKE YOU! No s***, he can say what he wants, and it's the foreign view of America you're choosing to ignore. Sounds like you're s***ting your own bricks here. I don't care if it's the goddamn internet or the back of a goddamn paper napkin. I also do not choose to ignore the foreign view of America. I just happen to vehemently disagree with it and I'll continue to express that viewpoint. By the time I get done, you may have accumulated enough bricks to put in a nice fireplace or outdoor Bar-B-Q. Enjoy!

The ACLU, in this case, is doing EXACTLY what it should be doing. It's making sure the leaders of our nation don't get drunk with their own power. Keep them in check. Make them stop and think before doing something they shouldn't. Hell yes. on this one they are right. Now NAMBLA is a totally different story.

I've been wondering how long it would take this SICA story to make it to Soxtalk. Racism has been the implied issue for weeks, now. Just can't help but think that if this was happening in say, Alabama, that one of you damn yankees would have posted it on day one. You know, as an example of the way people are in a southern red state. Just something to think about.

There is one thing I have learned about Texans ovet the past couple of years ....... They damn sure are proud of Texas and being Texans. What I've yet to figure out is ...... Why?

Mike, regarding your criticism of the "brick structures on the sidewalk" you might want to reconsider that viewpoint. I work in and live near a city of about 30 to 40K in population (purely a guess on my part), Paducah KY. Several years ago, the now familiar trend of a mall opening up and downtown dying began here. After a few years of seeing the downtown dry up, the people and the city government did something about it. One of the steps they took was to tear up all the sidewalks on the main drag and put in brick sidewalks, with brick planters and seating areas. Paducah is a river town on the Ohio. Back in the '40's and 50's a concrete floodwall was built to prevent the city from being flooded out, as had happened in 1937. The city fathers hired an artist to paint murals of Paducah's history along this floodwall. This has been going on for years and keeps getting better and more impressive as time goes on. The next move they made, I consider a stroke of genious. After the refurbished downtown area attracted a few entreprenuers and several one of a kind restaurants opened, they started a program called "Paducah After Dinner". What happens with this is that on Friday and Saturday nights from April through October, they close portions of the street to traffic and allow local entertainers to perform on the street. This has brought people back to the downtown area in droves, exposing some of the shops and restaurants to potential customers and giving these shops a financial boost every weekend night during those months. Basically, the downtown area has been such a success that Paducah is a model for other towns looking to revitalize their downtown areas. Every year, several representatives from small towns and cities come to Paducah to see and discuss what Paducah has done, what has worked and what hasn't. It all started with brick structures on the sidewalks.

The thing I noticed was that the reflection of the biker is not a reflection, as in a mirror image. The positions of the feet give that away.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 03:41 AM) Was previously an outfielder from the Pirates who was signed as a minor league free agent. Thanks. I had forgotten about him.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) Wade Boggs George Brett Eddie Mathews Brooks Robinson Mike Schmidt Killebrew was inducted into the HOF at 1B, although I do recall reading somewhere that he played 3B for a good portion of his career. HOF Otherwise, that's about it. What current third basemen have a shot at getting in when all is said and done? Chipper Jones, Scott Rolen, and Eric Chavez. If Alex Rodriguez and Jeter are NY lifers, A-Rod will go in as a third basemen. And I'm sure that I'm forgetting somebody. Yes, Killebrew did play 3rd base.

Buying all 30 NHL teams for $3.5 billion?
YASNY replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This tells me a lot. These guys making this offer think the NHL is a gold mine waiting to happen. The NHL has so mismanaged over the past 10 years or so, and the value is at a low point. Maybe, just maybe, we can get rid of Dollar Bill. -
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) Is Iguchi missing that bunt by a mile or has he already made contact? I hope the latter. He did successfully execute a sacrifice bunt, so I'd guess it was afterward.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) HELL YEA. My Memorial Day weekend is going to consist of watching the Sox at the Ballpark in Arlington. Swwwweeeeet. If things go according to plan, that's exactly what I'll be doing too.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) The sox would have to one of the top teams in consideration to sign him. Esp if Shingo stays healthy and has another good yr and is resigned. Matsuzaka's numbers look real good, good control, low walks and a lot of K's. I could see the Sox letting Garland go [isn't he eligible to be a FA in '06?] and signing Matsuzaka at half the price as Jon would likely get on the open market [esp if Jon has a yr with a sub 4 ERA and wins 15+ games]. If Garland has a year like that, why would we want to let him go? Hell, that's what we've been waiting for him to do.

Yes, Schmidt was later than Santo. He's the guy I measure all thirdbasemen against when considering the possibile classification of greatness. Oh yeah. You have to put George Brett in that catagory. Santo's not in Brett's class either. Just thought of Wade Boggs too. I know he was a helluva a hitter for average, but I always thought Boggs was more concerned with just getting basehits and his batting average than with winning baseball games. Give me Santo over Boggs, as Santo's heart was in the game.

You know, KipWellsFan, you have a goddamned red, white and blue American right to post that thread as you see fit, even if you are Canadien. I know I'm not going to try and stop you. However, I have specifically told you what I think about a non-American coming to a US based website and trying to portray the US in a bad light. That hasn't changed, nor will it ever. I, on the other hand, have a goddamned red, white and blue American right to neither like, nor respect, you and what you stand for. I fully intend to exercise that right.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) definitely nix anything with John Travolta... I agree. Whenever I see Travolta in a movie, I always think "Vinnie Barbarino" and I lose all possibility of taking him seriously as an actor.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) Chicago White Sox message board = More Illini love than any other team. Also, it's not like we've been bashing IU left and right, either, or at least i haven't. I've been objective and i rooted for them in every non conference game, etc. I only got to see the first 10 minutes of the game, but from what i'm reading in various places, IU got the typical Kohl Center ref job against Wisky. What else is new I wasn't complaining about the Illini love. Just stating that it exists. And you are correct, it is absolutely understandable and expected. My post was not meant to be anything but a compliment to Greasy for being a good IU fan. Nothing meant or implied against U of I and it's fans. -

For the sake of discussion, which 3rd Basemen since about 1960 were as good as or better than Santo? Here's a few. Mike Schmidt. Head and shoulders better than Santo. Harmon Killebrew. As a slugger he's better. Not the rest of his game though. Brooks Robinson. To me, Santo compares to this guy. Brooksie was better with the glove, but honestly, not by much. Santo was a damn good defensive 3B. Santo had a slightly better stick, so I think the offensive and defennsive advantages each had balance out. Robinson was the AL AS 3B every year, and Santo held the NL slot most years. Brooks got more national attention due the O's occasionally making the post season and WS. If he was better than Santo, it's a slight difference, in my opinion. Anyone else that fits with these guys that I'm not thinking of?
