How many games are you going to this year?
YASNY replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) how is the texas stadium in Arlington down there? my best sports buddy is a big rangers fan and they got a bunch of exciting players i want to make my way down there 1 day if their stadium is any nice. Oh, it's definitely a nice ballpark. I've only attended twp games there and had primo seats each time, so I don't know about the few from the outfield seats. -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) We really lack that veteran guy that will put somebody on their back. Remember Matt Morris in the game after Jimmy Edmonds got hit in the ribs by Zambrano? We need to see more of that. I think any one of our starting pitchers would dust someone. Most of our bullpen too.

I made it to one in Texas last year. I'm hoping to actually make it to the Cell for a game or two this year. Will probably catch another at Arlington, too. -
QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) I was there when he pitched against Sosa last year. The Cell was electric. Game of his career. Sweet. Sentence Fragments. Are Cool. No. They're not.

If Schilling wasn't such a media hound....
YASNY replied to Wanne's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Wanne @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) then why the hell would he keep a bloody sock that he wore?!? Whoo-pee...he donates it to the Hall?!? A bloody sock?!?...why the hell is that Hall worthy?!? I swear...this guy just LOOOOOOOVES the attention. He comes off as this unassuming dude...but every chance he gets...he exploits himself. Although I think he's a hell of a pitcher...man...this dudes ego is bigger than JLo's ass! I heard enough of him out here in Phoenix...and it still goes on...and on... Feel better now? -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) I believe antidisestablishmentarianism is the longest legitimate word in the English language. At least, I heard that several years ago and it stuck in my mind. Anyone know of anything else that's longer. No Mary Poppins references here, please. Hell ... I know one that's longer ... by one letter. antidisestablishmentarianists

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Thing is, I don't buy it. Not that many players are on roids, imo. I just don't buy the everyones on steroids approach that he seems to be taking. I guess we'll see what happens when the players named are interviewed and what there take is. If you want to know what's going on in a rat's nest, you have to ask a rat. What's true and what's not is anybody's guess. But .... there is definitely a steroid problem in baseball. Some of this has to be true. As for Frank Thomas, there is no way in hell I'll believe he's ever used steroids. His past public stances against them, and the Sox Spring Training stunt a couple of years ago tell me all I need to know.

Who's the single-season home run champ?
YASNY replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) I didnt vote for him but i see why they might. Bonds is on roids Mcguire was on a substance that is now banned There is no proof Sosa is on Roids ( though we know he is) I voted Maris, but out of the remaining three, I'd select McGwire. What he was taking was not illegal in baseball or in society. It could be purchased over the counter. I consider it no worse than me using coffee to get me through a night at work. And when even mariotti is referring to Sosa as the incredible shrinking Sammy, I'd call it a slam dunk that the jerk was roiding. -
QUOTE(backman @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) its real sad to see all the people you watched as you grow start to retire, its real depressing im going to miss stockon, and miller, michael, ewing, and malone! but he was a great player and he did what he could to make the fan experiance enjoyable, good luck to him as a retirerie Wait till you start seeing the people you watched while growing up start to die. That's what really gets depressing.

I'm really sad this guy did this to these puppies. But to say it's more upsetting than when people die just tells me that you have no clue.

I had to read "Death of a Salesman" in jr. high. For some reason, that play stuck with me.

In my opinion, Carlos worked hard to improve his defense, but he still qualified as "suspect" defensively. On his best day, Carlos was average. To top that off, when you hear that he would ignore coaches directions from the dugout when he was in the field, that says that not only were his skills suspect but his attitude was as well.

I think this whole thread sucks.

QUOTE(marsh @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) He should have brought his MVP award to the press conference and handed it over to Frank. That's for damn sure.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) And detonate Wrigley while you're at it. Nah ... It's gonna fall down on it's own.

I'd contract the Cubs.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) YAS, I did hear that there is some verbage in there that if he admits in public to using that the Yanks can void the deal. Since the GJ testimony is sealed and protected that can't be used against him in regards to contract stuff with the Yanks.. which is why he's not making any statements such as "I did use them".. in the public. Have you heard anything like that..? Just by people that were speculating.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) To describe SouthSider?!?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) doable Damn. That's the word I've been searching for.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) FWIW for the good people here at SoxTalk, what year are you starting Year 1 from? Oh hell ... don't ask. Nobody cares.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) Maybe, but I think he is more open or vocal about the limited payroll, which deflects part of the responsibilty. He's also taken a jab at the lack of attendance as the cause of the limited payroll. It sometimes comes across to me as 'Hey, don't look at me if we can't compete, I only have so much cash to work with'. Not necessarily in this article, but my reply was about his openess in general. That may be the case. I don't know. But that wasn't what I was talking about. His openness in general is what I mean. This article being the example.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) I think Oz knew it too, but with the pen they had last year, he really didn't have any choices. With all of the problems he really had to try to use him when he didn't want to. Good point.

Interesting bit of information that has come out of this Giambi thing. When Giambi was negotiating the deal with Yankees, he or his agent specifically asked for all references to steroids be stricken from the language guaranteeing the deal. In other words, the Yankees agreed to take that out of the contract. If a player asks to do that, what would you think? The Yankees are as much to blame in this scenario as Giambi. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why they asked for that language to be removed.
