  1. This in no way jives with the history of the Reinsdorf "regime". The Sox just don't do things this way. Too much money involved.
  2. After that dramatic win vs. Toronto today and them taking 2 out of 3 from us and Toronto, both series on the road, those MFers are going to be on a major high. We'll be lucky to get out of there with a split.

    Schmidt?

The season could be over in a month.
  4. I'm not sure how much KC will be able to get for Beltran. Take into consideration that Beltran WILL test the FA market (Boras as agent = bidding war). Look back to the Phillies when they dumped Rolen. Who'd they get? Think about it.
  5. Goose Gossage has to be part of this conversation too.
  6. I have to say this about Wilhelm. Saves weren't as easy to earn back in his day. I don't know if there was a rule change or not along the way, but the way pitchers were used held down save opportunities. It's a different world for closers today.
  7. This seemed to go a lot smoother than the chat session with Bullard. Good job guys and thanks to manhands for doing this.
  8. Yeah.. You're right. What was I thining? :headshake
  9. Look at it this way. Our bullpen will be responsible for those 9 innings in Saturday's game, as opposed to counting on 6 or 7 from a normal starter. Consider Cotts as part of the bullpen. Wunsch will only be able to give you about 1 inning. Cotts and Adkins will not be available for very much, if any, of the other 3 games in the series. That means if one of our other starters falters or gets hurt, we will not have any long relievers available. Shingo, Politte, Marte and Koch are 2 innings max pitchers at best. Also, what if we have a 15 inning marathon? There are so many things that can happen to turn this into a disaster. Again I state, our bullpen will already be stressed. And that is a best case scenario.
  10. Cotts will only go 3 or 4 innings so the bullpen will have to take up that slack. As I said, our bullpen is going to be stressed.
  11. Be thankful that didn't happen. With Cotts starting Saturday, our bullpen is already going to be stressed.
  12. Thank you. That does verify my main point. 1990
  13. As good as Jeremy Reed may be, he is not the answer to our problem. Reed is an OBP type of guy, which is all well and good. But, the added LH hitter in our lineup needs to be an RBI type of hitter.
  14. Yes, Garland is maturing right before our eyes. I know it seems like it's been a long time coming, but really, he's pretty much on a normal schedule as far as ML service time. An added bonus is that he is still very young. He can be a good one for a long time.
  15. I don't believe this. We are now to the point of criticizing Konerko for HOW he gets base hits and drives in runs. Those things balance out. He can hit on right on the screws but right at the left fielder and it's just an out, or he sneak a grounder through the infield and it's a hit. I supposed you would have been happier with a screaming line drive at the shortstop that was turned into a DP? There's an old baseball saying: Hit 'em where they ain't. That's what Paulie did.
  16. You have to take into consideration that the Sox have not had a top 10 pick in the draft in 12 or 13 years. I'm not sure of the exact number of years but it has been a while. Does anyone remember who our last top 10 pick was? Was it Frank Thomas?
  17. I'm in total agreement with Rex and Steff. This is a non-issue. He didn't rip anybody. He didn't imply that he should be playing more. He stated an opinion that is based on sound reasoning.
  18. I don't think they had any plans to start him. In fact, Coopersaid he's still in the bullpen. I think this a one time, stop gap measure to get us through this weekend. The Sox will figure out their best option from there and I think that will be a trade. I also think that they feel they are close to having a deal with someone.
  19. Yes, I was aware of it, though I thought it was 4 wins. Sue me. The fact that the Sox would only offer Kenny Rogers $1 million and the Twins offered him $2 million cost us the division last year. Now THAT is what is pathetic. We saved a million in payroll and lost the division because of it. Of course, that's only one of the contributing factors. If we would have had Kenny Rogers instead of the Twins, we win. If Koch had performed as expected, we win. If Konerko had performed as expected, we win. If Wright had performed as expected, we win. If any 1 of those 4 things would have happened, we win. *Sigh*
  20. Cotts' longest outing thgis year has been 2.1 innings. They don't want to hurt this good young lefty by stretching him out too far in his first start.

    Koch

As a matter of fact, the Tribune did say something to that effect. Good call, witesoxfan. It apprears Billy Koch is gradually improving. The Trib said the last strike was a 95 mph heater. As Brandofan stated, getting Koch back would be HUGE. I'm willing to wait and see if he can continue this turn around. And I'm not going to crucify him if he occasionally blows a save.
  22. I'm thinking something is in the works, as far as a trade goes, and starting Cotts on Saturday is just a stop gap measure until the trade gets done. The fact that Cooper said "He's still in the bullpen." clues me in to that scenario.
  23. So far, we have certainly got the best of that deal.
  24. And that's including the sausages.
