Oh Hell yeah, Bob Uecker! Try listining to Joe Buck do a game for the Cardinals. I'm talking a Cards network broadcast, not a national game. He's excellent.
-
Just like everyone "Knew" Schoenewies wouldn't get the job done. Danny Wright looked very good in ST and SS sucked in ST.
-
If he gets that average up to .280 in a few weeks time, then he needs to be brought up and inserted into the line up. That means he'll be hitting at over a .300 clip between now and then. Play him while he is swinging the bat well, and maybe he will get the confidence to continue hitting.
-
That may be exactly what we need to happen so it finally gets through the organizations think heads that this team, as structered, is not going to win s***.
-
I agree. I know he is way too talented to give up on, yet. Somewhere along the line, hopefully soon, something might click in that head of his and there will be no stopping the guy.
-
I don't think that is an unreasonable opinion at all. I don't know what options are available to KW right now. He may have to settle for something less than an "ace" even if he wants to acquire one.
-
He's an asshole because he can't get major league hitters out consistently? Well hell Nuke ... go volunteer to take that next start in his place. Let's see, based on that criteria, who the bigger asshole is. The paragraph above is nothing more than attempt to put things in perspective. The kid came up and I'm sure he gave us his best, as it now stands. That doesn't mean he's an asshole. That doesn't nean he sucks. That doesn't nean he'll never be a good major league pitcher. That does, however, mean that he wasn't ready or was lacking in confidence or he was overwhelmed by being in the majors. I just hate to see these kids getting ripped with vulgarities when they fail to live up to expectations when fresh out of the minors. I think it's totally uncalled for.

With all the natural talent Borchard has, I'd still wait before dumping him for a bag of stale peanuts. Manuel was not a bad manager. Basically, cwsox and I have been in agreement on that issue all along. I think I was calling for a change somewhat earlier than cw was, but we both felt JM was shouldering an over abundance of the blame. As far as Ozzie goes, I think he'll do a pretty good job. I like the fact that says what needs to be said and pulls no punches when doing it. He also doesn't just stick with the same thing even if it's not working. JM was bashed for "tinkering" yet at the same time he was bashed for sticking with Koch and Konerko too long. Ozzie is still trying to find the right combination of players and their slots in the batting order. He deserves to be able to "tinker" to a certain extent to get to know his players and what they are and are not capable of. On this board, we've heard Harris should be in CF to keep Uribe in the line up. Also, Gload should play more in a platoon with PK. That Lee should be moved to number 2 and Valentin moved down. That Rowand should be moved to AAA, bench, number 2 or 4th outfielder. It looks like to me that Ozzie is trying some of these very options we have mentioned here. Of course, now we are starting to hear complaints about Ozzie "tinkering". Give the guy a chance to find out what he has to work with and also to communicate to KW what he thinks he needs to make the Sox a better team. I know this much. The plan in place and the players we currently have are not going to beat the Twins in this division unless the Twins self destruct. It's way past time to break up this RH-RH-RH-RH-RH string of power hitters in the 3 through 7 slots in our line up, and to an extent greater than dropping Valentin to the number 6 hole.

For the record, Gammons did not say KW wasgoing after Benson, nor even that there were any talks between the Sox and Bucs about him. He simply said Benson was "out there". So, if the Sox don't get Benson this is not "more bulls*** reporting from Gammons". I think Benson is ok as a number 5. I know Brando wants us to get a number 1 and push everyone else back a spot, but if we are looking for someone to step in the Wright/Diaz slot, then Benson should be more than adequate. It all depends on KW's plan of attack, or what he would consider the most bang for the buck out of the options available to him. Any starting pitcher that can at least be effective in the number 5 slot would be an improvement for this team. As for the Konerko part of his comments, KW definitely needs to do something in that regard. In fact, that should have been done after the 2000 season when Seattle just shut down our offense in the playoffs.

I thought this was going to be a "Where are they now?" thread about Darrin, Samantha and Tabitha.

I just know what I see and what I hear. Tom Brokaw is one of the worst. In fact, he's put off his retirement until after this election. I wonder what his agenda could be. Look guys, I don't trust "W" as far as I can throw him. So don't put me in that "Republican" catagory. All I'm saying is that I would appreciate it if the media would present an unslanted view of things so that I can make up my own mind without them trying to influence me. When they pound on the prisoner abuse story for 10 days and give 1 day of coverage to the beheading, that tells me that SOMEONE in the media has a political agenda. They are trying to beat down Bush through Rumsfeld. I wish they'd just back off and let things take it's natural course.

NASCAR fans are a touchy group.
-
That happens about 6 times a season.
-
That sounds like one helluva slogan for Soxtalk!
-
Yes. For about 15 minutes. In the meantime the liberal f***ing media is still salivating over the prisoner abuse controversy. There's something totally out of whack in this country.
-
His numbers look acceptable to me. His last time out he pitched 1.2 scoreless in the 6-5 win we had over Baltimore. 1.2 scoreless in a one run game sounds like cruch time to me.
-
Marte may be the type of pitcher that is more effective when he's tired. Garland's last start is an example of that. He wasn't able to get any sleep the night before so he didn't try to overthrow and just concentrated on hitting his spots. If JG can harness that knowledge and put it to use, that sleepness night may have been a blessing in disguise.
-
Prediction: Beer shower for Diaz tonight as he gets his 1st ML win!
-
Do you think we'll see you posting again on Soxtalk?

I agree that Joe Buck is damn good. Jack Buck was one of the best ever. As far as Joe Morgan goes, he is pretty good. He does know a lot about the game but sometimes his arrogance and racism comes through.
-
I get so tired of having to defend Jose. He's such an all around solid baseball player.
-
We didn't. Let's move on. Colon is gone.
-
Buehrle's solid. He always has been. Even last year, he got a lot of bad breaks and got snakebit luck. But, even with all that, he pulled himself out of it and pitched well the second half. Mark Buehrle = Professional
