  1. The best guy on that list was Carlos May and he would have been even better if he wouldn't have had his thumb blown off. He lost 80% of his power due to that accident.
  2. The reason I didn't mention it is because i agree with you. What fun is that?
  3. Harris may never learn how to steal a base properly. That is a knack some guys have and some don't. He may just need to pick up on a couple of subtle nuances that make up the difference between stealing in the big leagues and staeling in the minors. I hope that's the case, and it very likely is. He had some pretty decent success in that department in the minors, iirc.
  4. July 15th. I think KW pulls the trigger on a trade a little early.
  5. For some strange reason, this makes sense to me.
  6. Let me restate my point about Foulke and big games.
  7. They might as well see if he has the capacity to serve as a closer. At this point, what have they got to lose. Of course, I'm talking about trying him as a closer in Charlotte, not Chicago.
  8. If the Kansas City press and fans can't respect a guy with the ML pedigree of Tony Pena, they don't deserve a baseball team in that city.
  9. When they traded JB, a lot of guys (Thomas, Durham) were pissed, iirc. I guess he was a good clubhouse guy. Mediocre pitcher, though. I'm glad they were smart enough not to throw big bucks at him.

Exactly! Chip is a moron speaking to morons. I don't know how Stone can put up with that little weasel.
  11. From what I saw out of the Sox today, the term Corpseball has more life than the Sox team. What a pathetic display.
  12. I can't see anything about the prospect of getting Griffey that would justify 66.5 million of the Sox always in short supply payroll dollars, let alone the players they'd have to give up to make such a deal. Griffey was a great player in his day, but that day has passed. There are better, younger, cheaper players out there that the Sox could spend that $66.5 Million on.
  13. Why not just have a straight Konerko/Gload platoon for about 3 weeks. That would get Gload a few sorely needed at bats as well.
  14. Right now, with the players we have, I'd tweak the lineup as so: Harris Olivo Maggs Thomas Lee Valentin Konerko Crede Rowand/Perez I'd let Uribe hit in the same postion as the player he is subbing for, and he'd be in there for someone, almost daily. Putting JV is the 6 spot breaks up that string of RH hitters. Those opposing pitchers can just get into groove seeing the same thing batter after batter. Olivo has been handling the bat well enough and is speedy enough to be effective in the two hole.
  15. Crede came up up from the farm with reputation of being a gold glover caliber 3B. So far he has not consistently shown that ability. He has shown flashes from time to time, but he'll never be confused with Brooks Robinson. Yet, he is "overrated". On this board, there is a tendency to form an opinion, the stick with it through think and thin. That's why Valentin still has a rep as a poor shortstop, after having 36 errors in 2000. Yet he was superior defensively in 2003. Crede's no slouch at third. In fact, I'd call him somewhat above average. But I'd also still call him overrated.

He's abreath of fresh air to this board.
  17. Let me second that motion: :fthecubs
  18. How many players can you say that have been effective while moving from catcher to second base to centerfield? That's quite an amazing accomplishment. He's been an offensive force his whole career.
  19. Oh, Carlos will start hitting. He's too good not to. But still, he's probably our most tradeable asset. I have two concerns when we talk about the idea of trading Carlos. First, we have to make damn sure we get enough in return. He's too good to trade and get ripped off in the deal. Second, if we trade Carlos, there is no guarantee that we are able to resign Magglio. I would hate to see this lineup play in 2005 without at least one of them.

I see our new member has a way of putting things into their proper perspective. Good job.
  21. Hey WSox30 ... Welcome to the board.
  22. We wasted a damn good performance by Schoeney. I hope Loaiza can hold them down as well.
  23. Sorry. I didn't mean to come across as being argumentative. I was just pointing out that Crede got a cripple and did something with it.
  24. Then that is one opportunity we didn't let go by.
