Things are bad, and David Frum makes them worse Great take down of the awful David Frum. Who liberals are way too cozy with.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Where the f*** is Dennis Rodman when you need him? You know normally I would just laugh off the Rodman stuff as funny, but Trump is such a mental case and loves gratitude so much. I think Rodman could come back and be like "no, NK loves the Donald, they think you are the best" and Trump would be calling NK to tell them how great everything is.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) I think Trump is dumb, but I don't think he's that dumb. Time will tell, but that is some scary stuff. I don't think it's a question of smart or dumb. I think trump is mentally unstable.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 12:12 AM) I forgot about that. He's pretty safe if he's in China. Now if he were in Japan, maybe not so much. Although if China and Russia decide to nuke us in response to us annihilating N. Korea they might take prisoner Americans living in China. I won't start a new thread, but I'd love to hear if people have any plans as what they'd do if they hear some morning that nukes are on the way about to hit Chicago. For some reason Chicago usually gets mentioned. They should create something like bunkers, but really big, so they could fit like a whole community. We could call them "vaults". Have one person be like an overseer of each vault.

I was just reading that. Jonah Goldberg, Eli Lake. I like that all the pro-Iraq war journalists are back to sell us another war. Goldberg also mentions Iran in that article. I guess we will have to bomb Iran as well. Can never have enough wars in my opinion.

We must stop blaming Bush, poor guy. He's not to blame for anything.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) What does this have to do with the North Korea issue? It was in regards to NK supposedly sinking a SK boat, killing 46 people. That something like that would be justification for attacking NK. So I was using it in that regard.
-
We once blew up an Iranian passenger plane with 290 people on board in Iranian airspace. Should Iran have bombed us?
-
To save Korean lives we must start a war that will kill millions of Koreans.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) Does that count CIA-backed coups like Iran, Nicaragua and Chile? Yeah. I counted Iraq a couple of times. I mean we've been bombing them for the past thirty years, but we've had two separate invasions. Hard to count that. Actually if you think about that, it's really quite insane.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:41 AM) In the past 69 years, how many countries has NK bombed and or invaded? How many countries has the U.S bombed and or invaded? I'll answer my question here. NK - 0 USA - 39 countries (although some of them were twice and three times, not sure how to count that)
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) How many other US foreign interventions have gone well? how'd the last one in Korea go? (it's still going on, technically!) In the last Korean war we killed 20% of the North Korean population. Today that would be over 5 million people.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Bulls***. Bush got NK to the table with the regional players for 5 years worth of talks, culminating in NK agreeing to halt its nuclear weapons program and shut down their facilities and normalize relations with Japan and the US. And it was Obama who ruined the agreement by condemning their "satellite" launch in 2009. I know you can't blame Obama for anything, so fine, we'll call it NK reneging on their agreement, something they continue to do because they have no desire whatsoever to end their military progression. But keep dreaming guys. Maybe this time it'll work! It's not BS, the Clinton agreed framework was a good idea, much like Obama's Iran nuclear deal. Republicans just hated it and did everything they could to torpedo it, just like the Iran deal.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) Explain to me how/why diplomatic relations will work this time, when the same moves have failed over the last 2 decades. You're tying to use rational means on an irrational regime. They don't want war, but they don't to stop their military progression either. What do you mean work this time? We haven't had diplomatic relations with NK. I guess if you include sanctions and isolation as "diplomatic relations".
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) Wow, talk about a ridiculous take... In the past 69 years, how many countries has NK bombed and or invaded? How many countries has the U.S bombed and or invaded?
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) If that's your position then there's no point debating anything with you. Your solution is do nothing, they can do whatever they want. My solution is to open diplomatic relations with another country. Work out a peace agreement. This idea that American has had an "anti-war policy" towards NK is totally wrong. I guess it's not as sexy as starting a war that will result in the death of millions of Koreans, but hey let's just do the normal conservative foreign policy dance. The one that has never worked and has always resulted in mass death and destruction around the world. I guess I'm just an appeaser.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:21 AM) Yes or no: you're OK with NK having a nuclear bomb capable of hitting LA. I'm not ok with any country having a nuclear bomb. Especially not the U.S.A, because you know we are the only country to actually use one and have come close to using more. I don't have any more problem with NK having a nuclear bomb than any other country.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:10 AM) I stated at the very beginning that Trump is not the person to fix this problem. But why is the "answer" a competent, anti-war US policy when that policy has also failed? And arguably, failed WORSE given that the development of their weapons program accelerated during the time period when we were playing "nice." Balta and SS' point is basically - military intervention isn't an option because many people will die and rhetoric threatening military action doesn't work either. And my counter is nothing else has worked! Balta annoyingly chastised people for not coming up with better solutions, and yet his solution is appeasement and giving a mad man exactly what he wants, under the false belief that it will do something. They've been given aid in the past and failed to uphold their end of the deal. Why would it work this time? SS2k5 is right; the cat's out of the bag here because of failed US policy over many decades. We should have ousted that regime in the 90's (or even the 80's). I don't care about a failed rebuild in other places, it's still a possibility here. Unification of the Korean peninsula is what basically everyone wants EXCEPT the tyrannical, brain-washing regime currently in place in NK. So yes, despite the horrific cost, military options should be on the table. SK, China, Japan and Russia, along with the UN, should be on board. I don't care that regime changes have failed every time before. It's going to work this time I tell ya! I'm starting to get the impression that people have little knowledge on the history of the situation with North Korea, starting with the war and what's been done through the years or they just don't care and are excited about another war.

GWB declared three countries the "Axis of Evil" and then went and invaded one of them. What did you think the other countries would do? One of which was a neighbor to the country that was invaded.
-
Folks, I think he has done it! He has solved the problem.
-
Country that is currently occupying two other countries, bombing 7 countries, funding one country as it causes mass famine is very scared of country that might get bomb that we are the only ones to have actually used.

If We Care About Inequality, We Must Confront Capital Here is a piece to go with that. From the new People's Policy Project, a new left wing think tank from Matt Bruenig. Keith Ellison even tweeting about it. @keithellison 21h21 hours ago We need more progressive think tanks. Excited to see the People’s Policy Project up & running.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) Reince out General Kelly is new chief of staff, placing yet another military man in a civilian position Kelly sucks. He is just awful.

Mitch McConnell just standing there completely shocked and defeated is great. Sad. Loser.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) just a repeat of the GOP's 2004 electoral strategy of running a bunch of anti-gay ballot initiatives. That is a vile quote. What human garbage this administration is.
