QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) I hereby nickname him "The Salesman" With the type of numbers he has put up... he must be/have been a real jag for the Angels to tell him to take a hike. Lets hope he has grown up... like that Jenks guy. Agreed on all counts, including the nickname.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) Clemens would have been a hall of famer without steroids. His Boston resume, which included a downhill turn which caused them to let him go before a sudden revival when he arrived in Toronto and beyond, disagrees.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) His career would be comparable to Griffey's. Exactly, very similar. Bonds would actually have a slight edge in all likelihood.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) Blogo has proven himself to be a loose cannon with anger issues and completely irrational. I think that assesment of him is being kind (and I know you didn't mean it to be kind). I would say he's bat s*** crazy, but I don't even think that covers it. -

This is just funny now. This is so bizarre, so unexplainable, so unbelieveable what he is saying, that all you can do is laugh. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) Exactly. Sosa and McGwire are probably not that good without steroids. Bonds was already a Hall of Famer. Oh I completely agree, but I just wish we could have seen what Bonds would have done had he never touched steroids. He obviously would have never hit 73 home runs or broke the all time home run record, but he'd still be a guy with 600 something home runs in all likelihood to go with all of the walks, steals, gold gloves, and MVP's. He cheated himself using the stuff because he didn't need it.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) He still will be a Hall of Famer, when it comes down to it there's no reason for him not to be. He's the ONLY steroid-related player I would vote for. I hate him for what he did in the 2000's, but he'd have been a hall of famer no doubt had he never touched the stuff, and he's the only guy I can for sure say that about.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges

This might be the most bizarre set of comments I have seen from him yet. He's asking the Sun-Times and Tribune editorial boards to help him out because he is being unfairly prosecuted. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Butler is really really good. The way they came back on UIC was amazing, all in the second half. Yeah I am admittedly very biased about the Bulldogs these days because a friend of mine starts for them, but they are just a fun team to watch and very good. -

He's giving a news conference right now. This guy is perhaps the most bizarre politican I have ever seen, and that's REALLY saying something with all of the loonies in that line of work. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) I respect what he did, even before any of the steroid accusations. He's an incredible baseball player who showed uncanny strike zone ability and is quite possibly the epitome (in his prime) of a 5 tool player. He really enthralled me in his home run chase with his majestic bombs. IMO, he's the greatest hitter of all time. He did something that McGwire and Sosa couldn't do for me. His 756th home run was something I will never forget and something I was proud to see happen. This actually is a legitimate set of reasons, thank you. Had Barry Bonds retired in 1999, I would probably be a big fan of his. What he did before all of the craziness of the 2000's was absolutely outstanding, and he would have been a hall of famer had he never met Victor Conte. I just think it's a shame he did.
-
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) I like him because I think he was singled out in the steroids deal unfairly. His stats also make my eyes pop out of my head. I will completely agree that he was unfairly singled out. There are so many guys who don't get enough blame for what they did, even guys like McGwire and Clemens who you hear about a lot aren't given enough heat in my opinion. But there is a reason his stats make your eyes pop out of your head, because they were significantly enhanced.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) There are plenty of Cubs fans who care a lot about the team and baseball in general. There are Sox fans who just go to games as an excuse to get drunk too you know... Oh absolutely, but I would say a large majority of the pathetic fans reside in their camp. I do know a few Cub fans who I would be happy for if they won the World Series, but overall I just can't hope for something like that to happen. It would make me a bad guy.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) Hip-hop music is music for performers who can't make real music. I don't agree with this, but I will say that Hip-Hop has gone completely bad recently. It had a pretty good stretch the first half of this decade (as well as the mid to late 90's), but it's just gone completely down the s***ter the 2nd half of this decade. It's hard to listen to most of it these days, unless you work really hard to find good underground stuff.

This isn't me trying to start an argument, but how can anybody like Barry Bonds? I'm legitimately curious as to the reasons, because I can't think of any.

Butler having yet another great season and nobody is noticing. As good as programs like Gonzaga, Southern Illinois, and Xavier have been the last decade, Butler has been just as good. I am surprised the Bulldogs aren't getting any attention this year, they are just as good as they were the last two years and they got plenty of attention during those seasons. -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) I really hope the Cubs win a World Series, a lot of their fans deserve it and I'd like for them to feel the same feeling we felt in 2005. Of course I dont want the Cubs to win it over the Sox, but imagine living 70 years and never seeing your favorite baseball team with the World Series. You'd think Sox fans would have some empathy here. Nope, these fools (at least fools in the sense of their baseball fandom, not in general of course) decided to root for a team who has embraced losing for decades, and whose ballpark is filled with a majority of fans who don't care what happens on the field. The White Sox championship drought was long and epic of course, but the majority of fans at least always cared about what happened on the field and not just what bars to go to after the game, and the organization never used losing as a tool to sell tickets.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) I am amazed at how many men leave the bathroom without washing their hands. You just wiped your asshole or held your johnson. Can you have the common courtesy of washing off your hands for christ's sake! I read somewhere once that it's actually healthier to wash your hands before you pee then after. It's REALLY gross to not wash your hands after taking a dump, I don't think anybody would argue that.

I'm with the people who mentioned Ugg boots and the NFL. I will take it easy on the NFL because I think they've had a very good postseason in terms of the game entertainment value, but it's such an incredibly overrated league. And Ugg boots should be banned, I see so many girls in them around campus and they have the perfect name because I want to say "Ugh" everytime I see them. So ugly. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 08:48 AM) I hate college football. Yeah, I said it. I think it's a far better product than the NFL in terms of entertainment value, but until it has a legitimate playoff and thusly a legitimate national champion, I can't argue much with people who feel this way.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Crane Kennedy admits Wrigley Field is a dump: "That's one part of it, and the other parts of it are fan amenities. Our mezzanine suites, we don't even call them luxury suites anymore because they're neither luxury, nor suites. We call them skyboxes. We all know the washroom situation is unacceptable. The concession, the quality of the food—we rank at the bottom. Between college and pros, among all sports, I've probably been to around 75 stadiums. And Wrigley Field is BY FAR the worst stadium I've been to at any level. The accomodations are insulting to rats, let alone people.

Unless Paxson is launched soon, you know they are going to re-sign Gordon and end up not having the resources to do anything in the summer of 2010. It's the Pax thing to do, he has cemented his status as one of the worst GM's in the league this year. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) Sadly, Ricketts family are diehard Cubs fans and told MLB they'd have a payroll around 175 million a year. Peavy probably should start packing his bags. You are one of the smarter posters here, but one thing I'm glad about is your Cubs thoughts are consistently proven inaccurate. If your Cubs thoughts (although I think they are more irrational fears due to hate than thoughts, and that happens) were proven true, they'd have won 2 to 4 World Championships this decade, play in a 300 thousand seat stadium, have a 1 billion dollar payroll, and all of their players would go home riding unicorns instead of driving cars.
