  1. Weed being used on a basketball team is not shocking, weed being used by college kids is really not shocking, and if you put them together, then yeah. If it was just weed being used, then it's just an excuse for the distractions catching up with Indiana last last season in my opinion. The bigger issue would be if drugs other than/more serious than weed were being used. And for the record, I've never touched drugs in my life, so I wasn't trying to give off the "I use weed and it's not a big deal" vibe with that commentary.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) I still am in shock that Detroit handled San Jose the way they did last night. 6-0?! s***! Detroit is an excellent team obviously, especially at home, and the Sharks were due to play a stinker. Just a perfect storm last night which caused that outcome IMO.
  3. Ehh 30 and drafted 8 years ago is a grizzled vet by NFL standards. I do agree that a lot of the other Bear defenders aren't grizzled vets yet, but they did get paid and appear to have lost interest (here's look at you Harris and Vasher among others). Urlacher is the worst case in that he got paid/lost interest AND is a grizzled vet. Getting to your point Brian, I am a HUGE fan of Taylor Mays, as well as Eric Berry from Tennessee. Two of the best defensive back prospects I can remember seeing recently.
  4. I saw that Steve, but Pax doesn't make significant moves, you know that as well as I do. And fathom, GT isn't winning a title with their current head coach. I am still amazed they made a title game with Hewitt, and that is a good trio, but I'm sure there will be others around the country in 2010.
  5. Lawal isn't going to be there when the Bulls pick. The word is starting to get out on him, and that will only happen more if he continues to perform in ACC play as most of us would expect he will.
  6. Bertrand isn't too bad. I know some people that actually live in Sterling and have seen him play since he was a freshman in high school. The level of competition isn't great out there, but he's a solid player. He's never going to be a superstar in my opinion, but a team needs solid role players who can do things and come off the bench, and I think Bertrand will fit that role to a T at Illinois. It's nice that enough good players are coming into the program that it's ok for a guy like him to be coming aboard as well. As for the other stuff I saw in here, Wall is going to end up at Baylor, the ESPN rankings are indeed a joke, and the Abrams news is fantastic. It's hard to keep up with the pace of the 2009 and 2010 classes, but Illinois should be able to do it since Abrams is a fantastic player and has friends in high places who are also 2011 recruits. The Big Ten, at least in basketball, is going to see a revival in the near future. It's already underway right now in my opinion and will only get better.
  7. As much as women (understandably and accurately I might add) make fun of men for being stupid, their gender has some complete idiots as well. Good to see in that link she is denying this story, but if she is dumb enough to marry this guy after what we know now, it will be hard to have sympathy for her if something happens.
  8. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 12:32 AM) It's due to a very rare phenomenon that we scientists like to call "winter." I am aware, but last winter was horrific and this year isn't starting any better (in fact, it's starting worse). Obviously these could be freak events not indicitive of nation and worldwide trends, and obviously I don't just flat out believe global warming is BS (I'm a skeptic of if it's nearly as bad as people say, but only an idiot would deny the evidence that something is going on), but I find events such as recent ones strange considering what I always hear about warming patterns.
  9. UIC beats Lewis University tonight by 23. Pretty sure Lewis isn't division 1, but the Flames are 7-2 now and have to be considered a legit threat in the Horizon League. Not sure who cares about that, but I have always enjoyed visiting once or twice a year to check out a game at the Pavilion. They are interesting (and dangerous) because they have 2 star players, who are both seniors, and one is a guard and the other a post in 7 footer Scott Vandermeer, plus several good role players. I will stick my neck out there and say UIC wins in Normal on Saturday, but it should be a fantastic game regardless of if I am right or not. Also, DePaul ended their 4 game losing streak in a game dangerously similar to the Morgan State loss. Just like in that game, DePaul had a double digit lead early in the 2nd half, and just like in that game the lead vanished. In fact, they had a 16 point lead at the half tonight. Fortunately for DePaul, Dar Tucker drew a foul with 1.1 seconds left and made both free throws to give the Blue Demons a 64-63 win at Allstate Arena. They did a nice job on Seth Curry.
  10. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) Went to my first Bulls game tonight; great game. Good to know you had a great time. People make fun of the "wine and cheese" crowds at the UC, but I love going to Bulls games.
  11. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) Honestly, unless we get lucky again I don't see a whole lot of difference between say #7 and #15 in this draft, at least at this point it seems to be personal preference after Griffin. That is a good point, this is a very weak draft, so if there was ever a year to just sneak into the playoffs for the sake of getting Rose some postseason experience and not worrying about the draft pick ramifications, this is it.
  12. A December record 3 inches of snow in Las Vegas closed the airport. In fact, a few more inches of snow are forecasted to fall tonight as well. This after they had similar stories in Baton Rouge and New Orleans last week. How is that possible, especially during a period of supposed incredible global warming that will kill all of our grandchildren?
  13. I heard about this story last week, and regardless of it's outcome, it's a story that is both extremely sad and extremely bizarre.
  14. So a foul on a 3 point shooter late in the 4th helps decide back to back games on back to back nights for the Bulls. Go freaking figure. It's really inexcuseable that both of these games were close, and it's far worse that one was actually a loss, but at least the Bulls got a win tonight. The Bulls have lost to horrid opposition when trying to get back to .500 multiple times this year, so maybe they can shock the world and win at Boston Friday to get back to .500. If not, at least they don't play on the road there again this year. Nocioni really saved the day tonight. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Is it weird that I'm a little upset we won? As much as I love the Bulls, and as much as I love to see them win, realistically, they won't do anything in the playoffs (unless something clicks), if they make it in the 1st place, and if they miss out, then it just hurts our draft position. God knows Pax wouldn't dare do anything to help the team. I'd usually agree, but I think making the playoffs is important this year. All that matters this year is the development of Derrick Rose, and I'm willing to sacrifice a few slots in the draft (odds are they wouldn't get lucky in the lottery again, and they are a borderline playoff team either way) in order to get Rose some playoff experience.
  15. Overall a very good game for Eric Gordon, but he made some CRITICAL mistakes down the stretch that really helped cost his team the game assuming the Bulls hold on here.
  16. Another awful shooting night for Rose tonight (although he's done some other things well, unlike last night where he sucked at everything) but that was a HUGE play right there.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) Wow Ben Gordon. Wow Eric Gordon, worst foul of the year so far. I fear he'll hit the winner and make up for it.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) I don't know how you can all rip Gray so much. He's a fabulous passer out of the center position and he is the only player on our roster who can get us some easy buckets down low. No, he's not athletically gifted, but if he can get us some easy buckets with a few minutes a game, I don't see why he wouldn't be a valuable piece to the team. He's not very good defensively, but name me one person on the Bulls who is. He's essentially the tall, white version of Michael Sweetney, and I'm perfectly fine with that, as long as he isn't play 30 minutes a game. I don't know where the Gray is a fabolous passer idea comes from. If I had to guess, I just think it's more a product of he's an adequate passer, something that can't really be said for any of the Bulls other bigs. Sweets also had a better scoring game then Gray does. He could knock down the 12 to 15 foot jumper, and Aaron just can't do that.
  19. I don't think Ohio State could take a verbal even if they wanted to. Their grid is full for this year and next I believe. And Lenzelle Smith better be a 20 per scorer at tOSU with the way you speak of him Brian.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Wasn't exactly a dominant performance by the Salukis. Dillard is turning the ball over way too much, hopefully he hangs in there, cuz you are right. We had 5 freshmen on the floor at one time tonight. I like Ryan Hare, but he isn't getting to the hole like he did in high school. That will come. Any team with Tony Boyle will struggle though. You could tell it was two very young teams for sure. The difference is SIU has a couple of senior leaders, and better general talent. And yes, the Salukis have some other good players too, but Dillard and Fay are the guys that jump out.
  21. As of now, Gray is a -13 tonight, nobody else is worse than a -4. That sounds about right. I might take a week off from watching the Bulls if they lose a back to back to two of the worst teams in the NBA.
  22. QUOTE (AssHatSoxFan @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) SWEATER VEST Not sure how I forgot about him.
  23. I don't know about consistent minutes and who is playing more minutes, but Aaron Gray should NEVER EVER be on the floor. As long as he is playing, somebody is losing out on minutes, and that's a shame. I know this is a tiny team and he's one of the few guys with any size, but he's still terrible. The white panther can't play, and he should not be on the floor, I don't care how big he is.
  24. NIU playing an awful game tonight against SIU unfortuantely. SIU is going to be awfully good when all of those young guys they have mature and get more experience, because the talent level of the newbies is higher than any I can remember down there. Dillard in particular, I can see why he was Mr. Basketball in the games I have watched them. He is going to be an absolute stud, especially next year when he will be in full control of the show when Mullins is gone. Dillard and Carlton Fay are the future of that program, and I really think they'll both be fantastic players.
