By what I understand, the suspensions are currently on hold until the court can "fully review them". That's not a dangerous precedent, however there seems to be a realistic chance the suspensions will be overthrown alltogether by the court, and THAT would be a dangerous precedent in my uneducated opinion. I still am not sure how a suspension based on something in the CBA can be determined illegal by any court, but we'll have to wait for an official ruling before that debate should start. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) While I don't get why they get off scott free, it is clearly not the reason. Bears blew the Tampa, Carolina, and Atlanta games. Plain and simple. If the Bears miss the playoffs, which it looks like they will, they have nobody to blame but themselves. That said, they still have won more games than I ever thought they would this year. I am baffled by why they got off scott free too, for the record. But you can't rely on something like that, and it amazes me that the Bears and Vikings have won as many games as they have this year, I am completely underwhelmed by both of those teams. They must be well coached, but Lovie and Childress don't exactly strike you as brilliant either (although Lovie does have a pretty good resume obviously). -

Josh Mayo of UIC might be the 2nd best non-BCS guard in the country right now. Just an amazing shooter, he's actually been more accurate than Curry this year I believe. At the same time, it AMAZES me Georgia Tech got to a national title game under Paul Hewitt. He's a fantastic recruiter, but he couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He's NCAA Basketball Ron Zook. -

I hope the whole offseason isn't a giant b****fest about the Williams Wall not being suspended if the Bears don't make the playoffs. Had the Bears not s*** the bed in Minneapolis (well, and especially at Atlanta and vs. Tampa Bay), none of this would be a problem. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Chizik addressed the ISU team for 90 seconds today. Sounds like a Petrino-esque exit. Saban is really going to enjoy his time in the SEC West, and Ole Miss might be a really good program there for a long time too. -

The Bears playoff hopes might be all but gone with the exception of hoping to win out and hope Atlanta loses at home to St. Louis at this rate. Yikes, hopefully Arizona rallies somehow. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 12:42 AM) Tebow's #'s were down because his offense only utilized him to the degree they needed him to win. He attempted less than 20 passes against Hawaii (14), Tennessee (15), Kentucky (15), Georgia (13) and The Citadel (11). He wasn't always in the game in the 4th quarter. Florida scored a lot of different ways and they don't have a Big 12 style offense. His stats aren't as good because he wasn't asked to be Dan Marino or Dan Fouts. At the end of the day, if I have one game to win, I want him on my side. The guy threw 2 interceptions all year. I don't think he is any less of a player because of how he is utilized. I've seen enough of him that I think once he stays and continues to do what he does next year, he will go down as one of the greatest college players ever. And he should, in my opinion. I can't argue with any of this (although Florida blatently runs up the score, so he doesn't lose as many numbers as you'd think, even though Florida is a running football team), but Oklahoma runs it a lot too and Bradford still put up all those crazy numbers. I have mentioned many times that I think Tim Tebow is college football's answer to Christian Laettner, and I really believe that. An all time great college player on a great college team who will probably have a long, but completely unremarkable, professional career. I think they got it right last night with Tebow finishing 3rd though. -

Atlanta won today over Tampa Bay, which killed whatever Wild Card hopes the Bears had. Carolina has 10 wins, and even if they collapse, the Bears can't pass them, and Atlanta and Tampa Bay both have 9 wins. If Tampa wins at home against Oakland or San Diego, the Bears can't pass them, and if Atlanta wins at Minnesota or vs. St. Louis, the Bears can't pass them. It's pretty much pass Minnesota and win a Divison Title or bust now. I'm with you WSF1986 btw, Fisher might have given away a win with that decision. I'd say there is a 90 to 95 percent chance Bironas makes that, and instead he throws a bomb on 4th and 2 with an ice cold quarterback. Unless Bironas was injured and we didn't know it, that was the worst coaching decision I've seen all season, and is all the more shocking considering a great coach of a very good team made the decision. -

Can't compare T.O. and Pacman. T.O. is a mentally ill (even assuming he didn't attempt suicide, he still is mentally ill in my opinion) person who seems to have never received help and/or just does not want help, and Pacman is just a really, really bad guy. Big difference. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) Evansville beats Western Kentucky tonight 72-40. Next up, North Carolina for the 7-1 Throbbing Purple Aces! Game is on ESPN at 6:00 Thursday night. Tyler Hansbrough will become UNC's all-time leading scorer, so there should be plenty of "face time" for UE and the MVC. Wow, a 32 point win over a team who beat Louisville, impressive. You guys have a couple really good senior guards (love Shy Ely), so it could be a fun season down there. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) Personally I would have voted for: 1. Colt McCoy 2. Tim Tebow 3. Sam Bradford I'd have had Tebow 4th, behind all 3 Big 12 South guys (McCoy, Bradford, Harrell in that order). I understand Tebow is a "leader" and the SEC plays much better defense than the Big 12 does, but the SEC was down this season even if people won't admit it, and Tebow's numbers are just so inferior to the big 3 from the Big 12, who all also only lost 1 game. -
I actually like this. I think DJ is good, but he and Hawk never mixed together right. I think the chemistry between Hawk and Stone (not to mention Stone is great) is going to be fantastic, and I think DJ and Farmer will mix well, especially with their senses of humor.

Nice win for the Bulls tonight, although I still can't stand watching their deplorable effort on the defensive end. Devin Harris is very good, that Jason Kidd trade by Cuban will go down in infamy. Harris is still the fastest/quickest guard I've ever seen in the Big 10 (although I am only in my early 20's, so that's a limited period of time), NOBODY could stay in front of him at Wisconsin and it's good to see him fully realizing his talent. With that said though, Rose had a fantastic game and came up huge down the stretch, as usual. As for all the coaches getting fired, it's no surprise. NBA teams are notoriously quick with the trigger finger as it is, and sure you have 3 teams with amazing records right now in Boston, Cleveland, and the Lakers, but you also have (in part as a result of those 3 teams) quite a few teams who are just horrible. -

Never seen a guy attempt 35 free throws in a college game, well or score 60 points for that matter. All in a losing effort, amazing. -

So Auburn runs Tuberville out of town and ends up with Gene f***ing Chizik? What a bunch of idiots, just a huge downgrade for them, and yeah Iowa State is kind of screwed now. No idea what they do. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) A hunter I assume. Who the hell keeps the urine of a fox around though? Is it good to draw prey?

What full grown man has fox urine and a squirt gun just sitting around the house?

If we were to pick him up on the cheap after he's non-tendered, I wouldn't be all that upset about it. He's certainly not a great (or good) player, but I think he's better than Jerry Owens.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Except he didn't take a knee or just go down, he made a run for it and fought to stay up while being tackled. Hell since the Bears had a timeout left he could have just spiked the ball, they would have called intentional grounding but there would be no 10 second runoff since the Bears still held a timeout. The Bears still had the timeout at that point, and I'm pretty sure that if you have a timeout in a spot like that, you can use it in order to avoid a 10 second runoff even if a foul with such a runoff occurs, for whatever it's worth. -
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) The White Sox have probably had more uniforms in my lifetime than any other team. True, and part of that was trying to sell the merchandise, but part of it was also that Bill Veeck was either (maybe both) bats*** crazy or an ingenius marketer.

Official Recruiting Thread II
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This is an important class for NIU in terms of football, considering we have a ton of seniors and it's Coach Kill's first full class. We have 11 public verbals, but there are supposedly about a half dozen more guys that are not known on the list as well. We've already got a few guys from Florida, and a couple 3 star (according to rivals) recruits, and I know we're recruiting the deep south heavily. In that sense, our bowl game is HUGE because it's in Shreveport, Louisiana and I'd imagine a lot of our recruits will be watching closely, especially in that area. We actually have two guys visiting this weekend who are 3 star recruits and HS teammates from Florida who are verbals to South Carolina and Wake Forest, and we have a very realistic shot at both of them based on what I know. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) When you need more money, change the uniforms so all of the idiot "Red Sox nation" will run out like lemmings to buy the new merchandise. Exactly. 99.99 percent of uniform/logo changes are done in order to sell more merchandise. That's all it is.

All of the sports should just get rid of all star voting. The vast majority of fans who do it have no idea what they are doing, and the fans who DO vote that also have a clue are just outnumbered by the dummies. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) I know alot of people here lately have said that the Bears shouldnt bank on Orton and crown him with our starting QB spot for the next few seasons but I think we can pretty much concede that its going to happen. The Bears want stability at the position which is something I cant remember there being in my lifetime and I think they see the chance with Kyle.Even though he isnt great he is good enough to win a championship with him taking the ball every Sunday. I agree with this, but they are so far away from that stage. You need an above average running back (they appear to have that) to win with Orton, but you also need good wide receivers, and the Bears have the worst ones in the league. You also need a strong defense in support, and overall, the Bears defense right now is simply old and expensive. It will take a while to get the supporting cast you would need for an Orton run team to be a championship contender at all.
