QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) It's not, and if Dye is really traded for Bailey, Williams just f***ed himself. The backlash from fans alone would be incredible. Well forget the fans, he will have f***ed himself because it will have been perhaps his worst trade as our GM. You can't take a chip like Dye and trade him for Homer freaking Bailey. Have to get much more value in return than that, and I'm just confused that anybody would have any reaction to this rumor other than panic that our GM would even consider such a foolish move.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) Just curious....playing Devil's Advocate on KW. Would anyone take back Chris Young to be the everyday starting CFer (maybe we signed Furcal too to hit leadoff, don't really want Young there)...for this package we have just received? Would you rather have 3-4 fairly promising players/prospects/suspects or YOUNG? Discuss at your own convenience. KW was going for the kill (a repeat) in 2006 with the Thome and Vazquez deals. It just didn't work out (although Javy was fine for us as long as the game didn't matter, and Thome has put up solid numbers), but I'll have a hard time ever blaming him for either of those moves.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) Yep, I think a lot of people clamoring for this deal have bought into the hype with Bailey and haven't actually seen him pitch before. I was baffled at some of the comments in this thread. When I heard this trade rumor, I panicked. Bailey was throwing in the low 90's with his fastball last season and his offspeed stuff was completely flat. If that's all we can get for Jermaine Dye, then this market sucks.
-
I would just like to say for the record that I hate this deal. I saw almost every one of Bailey's starts last year, and his velocity was nowhere near the levels I had heard it was when he pitched in the minors. Unless we have some sort of info that Bailey was pitching hurt last season, count me out on this deal.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) This was a scary looking game coming in for Duke. Good win. They'll lose earlier than people expect in March due to their lack of size, as is starting to become a tradition in Durham. I don't get why Coach K ignores bigs so much in recruiting these days. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Was it all a dream, or did we make the playoffs a couple months ago? We did, and it was a testament to the emergence of our young players and the job our manager must have done, plus the fact our division was poor. This team was FULL of holes, and I commend KW for realizing that and being proactive to try and fix it.
-
QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) A big market team going young, I can't argue with that because it lowers payroll and means that this young core will have some front office dollars to back up their holes in a few years. The only way you really avoid rebuilding is by mixing big free agent spending and a quality minor league system. We spend a lot of money, but aren't really a Yankees, Red Sox, or Cubs in that regard and our system is lousy, so the day of rebuilding was inevitable. The good news is, the rebuilding started last year with the emergence of guys like Danks, Floyd, Alexei, and Q. Rebuilding, to me, doesn't mean you blew the whole team up and had to suck a couple years. You can rebuild and compete (for the most part) at the same time as long as you are smart about it.

In general, I like the deal. I like it even more because Javy is gone. Ozzie must be happy Logan is gone too, it seems like he never liked him.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) How the hell do you get dominated inside by Duke? Is Purdue really THAT weak inside? Absolutely they are, it amazes me they were as good in the "rugged" Big Ten as they were last year with that cast of interior players. Even the ones with offensive skill like Johnson are just weak on the other end. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) What should have been the re-coming out party for Illinois basketball instead turns out to be a terrible loss at home to a lesser team. Who said the ghosts of 07-08 were gone? The same choke artist team was out there tonight. Just bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. -McCamey...someterrible decisions for a PG. Why did he insist on walking up on the court the last 3 minutes of the game when were down? Not to mention with a 11 seconds left. Speaking of the last possession, why in the blue hell did he not shoot it? Everyone thought, no knew, it was going to be one of those plays where McCamey takes his man one on one. And then he did something not even Chet Frazier expected...he passed it off. McCamey thought it was a good idea to take a 12 threes today...why would one more hurt? -Speaking of Chet Frazier, why was he out there on the last possession? Bad move when we have offensive weapons on the bench. -I hate Raymond Skiles. -Where was the MVP, Tisdale at? He only played ten minutes. Granted he didn't do anything in those ten minutes except foul...but still. -For having a coach who has made a career on having his players take care of the ball and play defense, we sure did have allow every single Clemson player possible into the paint and made way, way, way, way, way too many unforced TOs. Way too many. -Trent Meachum, your seat on the bench is waiting. Come on down, Alex Legion. -Mike Davis...my God. Recruiting steal of the century. That "terrible" 2007 class that Bruce recruited will be one of the country's best after 4 years. Heck, it already is. Davis, Tisdale, McCamey, and probably Legion too will all be legit NBA prospects at some point. How many teams across the land start 4 sophomores? -Now they better win out non-con play. Tonight's game was quite simple, lost due to poor defense. Now, part of the reason the defense was poor was it was put in poor positions at times due to the turnovers, but yeah that is really why they lost. The end of game shot was annoying and inexcuseable, but that is not the reason for the loss. They REALLY needed that game (sounds silly since they were undefeated, but it's true with the soft OOC schedule) which makes it more frusterating. The 2007 class is starting to look awfully good too, but they lost on Rose and Gordon that year, so naturally there was panic. The thing about those guys is they were 1 year players, and they got a couple really good 3 or 4 year players in Mike and Demetri, and Tisdale has a lot of skill too. I don't count Legion though, he's a transfer not a recruit. -

It won't, they could play with 10 players and no timeouts all game and beat UCLA by double digits. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) I got FLA v Oklahoma. I think Bama gets beat by more than 2 TD's Yeah it would take a VERY poor performance from Florida for them to lose that game. Really, really bad loss for Illinois in the sense that they MUST win games like that one if they have plans to make the NCAA Tournament. Clemson is a good team, but Illinois can't lose that one. The ending was certainly inexcuseable, but Illinois can't win playing that poorly on defense and that is where the game was realistically lost. The Bruce Weber coached team tradition of not getting a good end of game shot continues though, although really it's more on the players when there isn't a shot taken at all. Wish somebody would've called that last timeout with 5 or 6 seconds left, it was clear that was going nowhere. And the Big 10 might have a shot this year since Jack McClinton handed them a win that otherwise doesn't happen. -

QUOTE (Shadows @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) I just don't think point differential should eliminate Texas Tech, even if they had only lost by 7-10 they would still have fallen back behind OU and Texas in the polls because they lost last.. They still beat Texas, and has the same record as the other two teams.. I don't think point differential is really fair either, but that is what eliminated them and really, it's more fair than any of the other options in this debate. -

What if Texas Tech had lost by 7 to 10 points at Oklahoma? As bad as it is now, there would REALLY be no way to seperate the 3 tied teams in that senario, except that Oklahoma would be the only one of the three to not play either of the other two on the road, but even that doesn't work since OU is the only one that had to play at Oklahoma State. -

QUOTE (Shadows @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) If you think about it, Tech is getting the worse jobbing of this situation.. not only are they not even considered to go to the Big 12 title game.. they don't even get to go to a BCS game That I agree with, becuase Tech should be ahead of Texas in line for the BCS title game if OU loses, and they obviously have no shot at it if that happens. -

QUOTE (Shadows @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Theres just no way to do it And it really pisses me off that everyone has thrown Texas Tech away in these discussions.. I listened to ESPN Radio all day and all it was, was Texas and OU talk.. not once did anyone mention Texas Tech They finished 11-1 (7-1) too, how come there is no argument for them? Why is it that Texas got hosed and they should be going instead of OU? Tech beat them, yet, I don't hear anyone talking about them.. And im not talking about the BCS convo because obviously they were too far back (Which is also BS because they are penalized for losing last), but for other scenarios no one is even bringing them up.. I agree in the end there is no way to do it. Even if I come to the side that OU belongs in the Big 12 title game here though, which I will do for the sake of argument, you can't have Tech in there. When you have 3 teams dead even in overall and league record, something like margin of loss in the one loss is going to matter, and unfortunately for Tech their loss was an ass kicking. Now, I will say this, if OU loses Saturday and Texas makes the national title game, I will be right back here saying how Tech got screwed because if that happens, it becomes a Tech against Texas argument and I go back to head to head in that case. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Well, then OU would have had no benefit at all to play and beat Cincy and TCU. Essentially then, the only fair way would be eliminating all but 1-2 non-conference games/cupcakes and playing full home and away league schedules. Every team would just schedule the Sister of the Poor and the Washington Generals if the SOS didn't matter to the computers in the end, which it did...especially rebalancing the final weekend. You schedule a stronger OOC slate in order to get favor with the computers to get into a BCS bowl or the natonal title game, but it shouldn't determine who wins a conference. Oklahoma shouldn't win the Big 12 South because they played TCU and Cincinnati IMO. -
Obama divides press conference into Cubs and Sox

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) I have no problem with Obama dividing up the room into Cubs and Sox. It's all in good fun. But are we so damn politically correct and worried about peoples feelings that we HAVE to apologize because a reporter was "miffed" that he DARED be put in the "other" area? Come on. Seriously. I agree that the world is far too politically correct, but to put a Sox fan on the Cubs side is only one or two steps below being sacrilege. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) It has to be budget constraints. If he were to for some reason accept arbitration, what do you think they could get for him in the trade market, esp. if they tossed in a couple million of his deal? He would have been a 10 and 5 if he had stayed with the Cubs, I know that, which is probably part of the problem they had.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Cubs fans are pissed. The loser here is Kevin Gregg, he didn't ask to be one of the reasons for Wood's depature. He's going to get his ass handed to him by an unfavorable Wrigley crowd. Indeed. Well when you give all of your players backloaded contracts (and that really starts to come home to roost in 2009 and 2010 for the blue b****es), have a lot of veterans, are in the midst of a bad economy, and can't sell the team, I guess moves that look silly like this one are needed to be able to write the paychecks.
-
Wow the Cubs REALLY didn't want him back, or they are on some very tight budget restraints. I'm surprised they didn't even offer him arbitration.

It's not fair either as you can't control the schedule, but at least you are using something within league play to determine who advances. -
If people want to know why young girls are starving themselves, look no further than a story like this. That girl is fantastic looking and there is nothing wrong with her body, yet she is "too fat". That is a shame.
