QUOTE (juddling @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 05:46 AM) Just the fact that more than one Soxtalk member knows anything about any of the Kardashian sisters really frightens me.... Haha why? Two of them are very hot, and both easily of age. Nothing wrong with knowing they exist.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I work hard for the money I spend in restaurants. If servers work for tips, then they should WORK hard for them too. 15% if service is what I expect, 20% or more if it's above and beyond, 10% if it sucked. That's fair. Agreed, although the girl whose number I got last week was tipped more than 20 percent, and I think that's fair. I will say that tipping isn't something you should overthink. To me, it's pretty obvious when somebody has and hasn't done something that is worthy of a tip. Outside of food/drink service and taxi cabs though, I don't think people see much done for them worthy of a tip outside of vacation obviously, in which case tipping everybody gets quite expensive.

I have a big problem with the BCS being the tiebreaker because it's based on the polls and computers, which both take out of conference results/opponents into account obviously as they are included in the full body of work, and that has NOTHING to do with a conference season or who should be a conference champion. -

Congrats to the happy couple, and wishes for a great life together. I have a few friends who will be quite unhappy with this news, as any of us who have female Sox fan friends probably do but hopefully Carlos and his bride have a wonderful life, much of which is spent in Chicago, crushing baseballs for several months a year. -

Ugh one of my best friends who now goes to Tech was at that game, poor guy. Heck of a game though, neither team really played any defense and the comeback was exciting to watch. It was fitting that the game was decided by a shot made possible by horrible defense though. Great win for Wisconsin, reminds me of their win at Texas last year in terms of the ending (although I think the ending was slightly different in that game, hit a 3 I think). QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) I dont know how you can throw Thabeet in there. He's 7'3", has been playing basketball for about 5 or 6 years, is remarkably athletic for someone his size, has put on weight and muscle in each of the past two years, and has been touted by Calhoun as a player who has improved season to season moreso than anyone he has ever coached. He has a knack for blocking shots with timing, not just his height, and for a big guy, he actually shoots FTs at a ~70% clip which shows he has some touch. IMO, i'd say Thabeet has a legit chance of becoming an NBA regular. He will only get better. He definitely has the best shot, but his lack of an offensive game makes me think he'll be nothing more than a defensive specialist in the NBA. He is giving himself a chance though, seems like a smart kid as he realizes you can't learn on the job at the NBA level and is staying in school. I'd stay next year and graduate while getting more experience too if I were him, he needs all 4 years. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) Pretty decent road trip for the Bulls, and it looks like they'll be battling for ones of those 6-8 spots in the East all season long. I still think if they could trade very cheaply for Brad Miller (e.g Sefolosa + something for him), they'd certainly make it then. Also the Magic take on the Celtics tonight. Orlando's been argubly the best road team in the NBA so far, but we're incredibly short-handed without Nelson, Pietrus and Bogans, forcing us to start Anthony Johnson and J.J Redick at the guard spots. Shows how good Howard has been (he's in MVP consideration right now IMO), and that Lewis and Hedo have picked up their games. The best? The Lakers haven't even lost a road game yet, although they have had a heavy dose of home games. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Contrary to popular belief, it was between three teams in the South for the spot in the Big 12 title game, like Shadows said, not two. That's true, but when one lost by 6, another by 10, and a third by 45 or whatever it was, people will tend to forget the last one. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) The Bears could go 3-1 in the next 4 games. Jacksonville stinks, the Saints are medicore (it'll be hard to throw 50 times when it's 20 degrees out. Who wants to catch a Brees fastball in that?), and the Texans are...the Texans. I just don't see them beating the Packers though, but even that is possible. The cold wouldn't matter to Brees as much as the snow and wind IMO. We saw today that Brees can be thrown off with poor weather (he only completed about 50 percent of his passes and had 3 picks in the Tampa rain), so I think who wins the Bears/Saints game might be in large part decided by mother nature. -

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) Tiebreaker is division record. I want to say each team has two losses in the division right now. If it comes to that, in my opinion, Minnesota will have beat Detroit and the Bears beat the Packers so both would be 4-2 in the division. I'm guessing conference record is the next tiebreaker? -

This team has no character at all other than about 3 guys, so the collapse after the 2 play swing of 14 points was predictable. It would have been hard for them to overcome that as it is because they also aren't very good, but they pretty much did nothing after that in any regard other than the long pick return by (I think) Payne. The season isn't over, but one back with four to play and with the season split, I have no idea who has the tiebreaker. Three straight home games now (followed by a road game against lowly Houston), and must go at least 3-1, if not 4-0. It's certainly possible as the remaining schedule includes a .500 team and 3 teams below that mark, but you can't trust this team obviously, especially after Orton "Rex'd" it this evening. The Vikings finish at Arizona, vs. Atlanta, vs. New York Giants, so it's not easy for them (although they have a free win at Detroit next week), so the Bears have a distinct schedule advantage. I just hope it matters. -

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Really? They are down 10 at the half and were only winning 7-3 anyways.. this is hardly a collapse Grasping for straws. They gave away 7 points on back to back plays in the first half, turning a 14-3 lead into a 10-7 deficit. That's a collapse, but hopefully they overcome it and win. -

I thought the Sox collapse during (I think) the middle game of the 3 game series at Minnesota in September would be the worst collapse during an individual game by a Chicago team this year. Turns out, it wasn't even the worst collapse by a Chicago team at the metrodome this year. -

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) It has to determine it.. Texas beat Oklahoma, Texas Tech beat Texas, and Oklahoma beat Texas Tech.. they all finished 11-1 (7-1) Theres really no other way you can determine it except whoever has the most impressive resume when the regular season is over.. Even if Texas Tech got creamed by OU, its not fair to put them out of it due to that because they are still tied with the other 2 teams regardless.. If it wasn't a three way tie and Texas beats Tech, then we dont even have to have this discussion because Texas would be going.. but that didn't happen, and this was the only other way to determine it.. let the best overall team advance, and they did I agree that non conference shouldn't decide the conference champ, however, what else could they have done? That's true, and that's why the system is really at fault here. No matter how you determine who goes to Kansas City, it's a flawed argument full of holes. Too bad the conference commisioners don't see things fit for a playoff. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) As much as I don't like Mack Brown. That argument is just flawed. OOC schedule shouldn't have ANY bearing on a conference champion. Texas played a tougher conference schedule this year and beat OU head to head. It's silly that OU got the nod in the end, but I'm enjoyin watching UT fans b**** and moan. I agree, and honestly I am not THAT pissed OU is in the big 12 title game, as much as it may seem that way. I just think that Texas playing a tougher schedule in league play and beating OU head to head means they deserve to be in the league title game over OU. The only reason I throw Tech out is the margin of their loss. Had they lost by 10 at OU in fact, I might argue they deserve to be in the game the most since they kept it that close in Norman, but they didn't. QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) Sorry, but that's just not good enough It doesn't matter if Texas Tech was embarrassed 8 days ago.. they still beat Texas in a game they DOMINATED until the final minutes when they came right down the field and won regardless.. If Texas Tech getting embarrassed doesn't matter then Texas win on a neutral field doesn't matter either.. It was a three way tie, and the team with the more impressive resume won out in the end. And you're kidding yourself if you think Florida beating Alabama next week wont vault them into the title game.. I see no way it doesn't happen, regardless of what they are looking at right now.. LSU wasn't anywhere near the title game last season, and when the final BCS came out winning the SEC sent them from what, 7th I think, to the title game. The LSU thing happened because everybody lost. The domination factor of the Tech/Texas game is a ridiculous argument since Texas led the game with 10 seconds left, and I am not the one that thinks that about the Florida/Alabama game, the experts like Brad Edwards and the guy on yahoo are. -

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) yeah Texas got a raw deal.. gimme a break I feel like everyone is taking crazy pills TEXAS TECH BEAT TEXAS.. why the hell isn't there an outcry that Tech should be in front of Texas?????? You know why Oklahoma finished ahead of Texas? Because they beat #11 TCU and #13 Cincinnati non conference while Texas was beating up on Rice, Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, and UTEP The computers got it right, the point of the BCS is to put the best overall teams in order based on more things than just "Oh well we beat them, so we should be ahead of them".. Oklahomas 11-1 season was just more impressive than Texas' 11-1 season and THATS why they are the Big 12 South champs and playing next Saturday Texas Tech was embarrassed on national television 8 days ago, that's why they are out of this. If they wanted to be in the discussion, they should have continue to convincingly beat Texas instead of letting them back into the game and almost letting them win the game for that matter. I put "raw deal" in quotes because I am aware not everybody agrees with me. I think people that continue to ignore Texas' win over Oklahoma on a neutral field are taking crazy pills, but this is a matter of opinion and people aren't going to agree. If Florida wins, they might get screwed by the computer and Texas could have got a break not having to play this weekend at this rate though, that's the life of the "computers" being in control. -

Ron Turner in rare form tonight as he continues to run it up the middle even though the Williams brothers swallow it up every time. Got bailed out by a personal foul there though. EDIT: FINALLY a run outside, and Forte goes about 25 yards. AMAZING how that works.
