QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) I was finally right about something. I hated the Aldridge for Tyrus trade when it happened and hate it now and seems others are finally joining me. 1 out of a 1000 isn't bad. Same here. I think EVERYBODY thought LaMarcus would be better than Tyrus though, except John Paxson. Combine that with the awful Noah pick, and here we are, although had Tyrus OR Noah been worth a damn last year, the Bulls probably make the playoffs and thus don't have Rose. Speaking of Rose, apparently he cut his arm with a knife and needed 10 stitches. He's fine according to WSCR, but damn how strange. -
Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:54 AM) I've read a couple of scouts reports that said Homer's stuff is still elite. Fastball in the middle 90's, nasty curveball and one of the best sliders around. The scouts must have saw him a while ago. Either that, or he only has poor stuff when I see him pitch. -
A Look at how Kenny has done with trades.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) I don't think you've made it quite clear what you think of the deal yet. Could you elaborate? Seriously, relax. We get that you don't like the (proposed/rumored) deal, but give the 22 year old a chance to prove himself. Look what we did with Floyd, who had many more failed innings pitched in the majors with said "declining stuff" and other crap like that. All we gave up to get Floyd was a Freddy Garcia that just about all of us here knew was broken down, and we also get Gio in that trade. Completely different situation. And I will give Bailey a chance. I'm not going to boo the damn guy, and I HOPE I am wrong about him if he's indeed coming or way. In fact, I wish I had never seen him in person and that my brother wasn't a Reds fan so I wouldn't feel so bad about this. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) Last I checked, Bailey has yet to throw a pitch for the White Sox. Take a deep breath. Coop can fix mechanics, he can't fix stuff. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) 1. This deal isn't set in stone yet. 2. Who could we get for Dye that's better than Bailey and how do you know this? 3. Would this theoretical better player also be cheap and under team control for 6 years? Bailey is a reclamation project. I don't know in specifics what better we could have got in return obviously, but I know for a fact that a guy who produces like Dye, even at his age, can bring more than a reclamation project in return straight up. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) The way I see it, the deal can't really be judged until a few things happen. First, and most obviously, you take it for face value. Bailey for Dye. If Bailey blows and Dye continues being a very productive OF, we lose the deal. Or, the opposite happens and Bailey turns out to be a stud, in which case, it doesn't matter what Dye does because of his age. Now, going deeper, you have to think we're going to use a good chunk of this money to sign some Free Agents or add some salary via trade. If we do end up signing 1 or 2 good free agents who help us in 2009, you have to consider it a smart deal. On the face of it, we lost the Carlos Lee trade by a mile, but with the money saved, we were able to sign some key people. This frees up even more money for us to make a run at Furcal or Dunn or Abreu or whoever. Well, we better be ready to open the vault if that's our strategy, because we've saved enough to corner the entire market outside of pitchers. -

This is my ONLY hope with the Dye/Bailey trade if it's indeed true, this record tradewise. Because baseballwise, this trade is terrible. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) Over 37 million has been removed from the White Sox payroll this year in Cabrera-Vazquez-Swisher-Crede-Uribe-Hall. So far, they have been replaced by Betemit, Lilibridge, Nix and Marquez(players most likely receiving major league money). Again, with season ticket renewals over 90%, and prices rising, along with strong attendance last year, how many salary dumps does this team need to make? Using Dye for a reclamation project is an awful plan of attack, and should be considered a bad move. Everything you put before the words "Using Dye" is true, but that's not even my biggest problem with this. It's clear, even though people won't admit it, that this team is rebuilding. However, to trade Dye for a reclamation project (one whose stuff has betrayed him) is a bad move both in a baseball sense and in the sense that it says to me, this is more that rebuilding, it's "let's go get them in 2010/quasi firesale" mode. I mean this isn't a firesale, but to dump 37 million dollars and get nothing in return to help you anytime soon (and no, Bailey won't help) screams "white flag". Not to mention that we could have got more for Dye than Bailey. No question. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) And whats wrong with trading an older guy in his last year for a former #1 prospect in baseball who we have been proven to 'fix' + signing a FA with the money saved? I have no problem trading an older guy, saving money, and signing a FA with the money saved. I don't even have a big problem trading an older guy, getting young talent, and not spending all that much. But we should get more than a former (keyword there is former) #1 prospect whose stuff has died the last two seasons. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) All sources point to groin/knee issues and also the Reds organization telling him to work on his secondary stuff... I would HOPE that is the case, because I saw him in person four times (three major league, one minor league) start the last two years and he never got above 92 on the gun. Obviously, those experiences make me very biased against him, but to get THAT for Jermaine Dye straight up would be something I can't fathom. I KNOW I should trust Kenny on the trades, he has a great record with them and even chicken little me has done so in the past. But I can't ignore my own eyes. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) ouch I mean really, that's as misinformed a post (at least the Tomlin part) as I've ever seen on the NFL on this board. LeBeau was there for Cowher's first 5 years (all playoff years) in Pittsburgh, and they missed the playoffs 3 of the next 4 years after he left. Does that mean Cowher couldn't coach his first 9 years in the Steel City and LeBeau did all the work? -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:10 AM) Care to elaborate? This should be good. It's a salary dump for a young guy whose stuff has deteriorated drastically the last two years, and his hits and k/9 ratios reflect that. I have no problem trading Dye, but to get only this in return is simply inexcuseable. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Dick LeBeau is amazing. Arguably the best DC in the history of the NFL, and the sole reason for the Steelers being 10-3 right now. Tomlin just stands in the sideline and either claps when things are going bad or chest bumps his players. Thank God for the Rooney rule. Well if ignorance is bliss, this post is the epitome of joy. -
The BCS Sucks Vent Thread

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) This IS NOT the first year of the BCS. Wake the hell up! Texas Tech was NOT eligible for a BCS game, so why would you not believe it? Why is it unreal? Because you don't understand how it works...... Let me explain it plain and simple. Only two teams from any conference can be in BCS games (with only one nearly impossible exception which won't ever happen). Wisconsin didn't get in as the #5 team in the country a couple of years ago, nor could TTU get in this year. If you want to whine about the rule, fine go for it. But it's not NEW! Yeah you are right, but Tech still did beat Texas head to head so they have a legit beef that they weren't the 2nd Big 12 team in the BCS. Just like I defended Texas over OU because I thought the Big 12 South was a Texas/OU debate, I will defend Tech here since in this case it's more of a Tech/Texas debate. I know the Horns have the stronger resume, but head to head doesn't lie. -

We're in full rebuilding (if not borderline firesale) mode if the Dye trade rumor is true, so I have a hard time feeling as good about this as I might otherwise have. Hopefully that rumor is false, and I can have full appreciation that we actually have some draft picks stockpiled. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:04 AM) What a shock! I'm sure we could bump both Danks/Floyd trade threads and find at least 50 different posters saying the same thing. I have given Kenny my fair (and unfair) share of criticism, but one thing I have always done is defend his trades. This trade, however, would be absolutely indefensible. -

I don't like to go THIS FAR out onto a limb, especially when I am in a rational mood like tonight. However, if true and this is a 1 for 1 swap, this would be the Sox dumbest trade since I began following the team almost 15 years ago. I pray to God this isn't true. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) The Steelers offensive line is so awful. Mixed with a QB that loves to the hold onto the ball like it is a new born baby instead of throwing it away. Yeah, they are always fun to watch because their defense is just so amazingly good, and their offensive line (in terms of pass blocking) is so amazingly awful (although as you said, Big Ben just holds the ball too long). And yet again, Dallas chokes like dogs in the clutch, it amazes me that one of the top 3 or 4 franchises in NFL history has turned into notorious chokers the last decade. New Orleans did them a BIG favor today though, that NFC playoff race is pretty crazy. It's a shame the Lions couldn't help the Bears out today, but at least the Bears helped themselves. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) OU tearing apart Missouri and continuing to justify their BCS selection. Now we'll see if Stoops can get his team up for the NC game...the last couple of times out against LSU and USC were duds, especially the USC game. But Bradford is five times the QB Jason White or Josh Heupel ever were at OU. While Murray and Brown aren't better than A. Peterson individually, their combined threat is scarier (Murray's not even playing tonight), and Gresham is far and away the best TE in the country right now, with Chase Coffman a distant second. I wouldn't go that far. Oklahoma is the best team in the country right now, and they deserve to play Florida in the title game at this point, but Texas still has a very legitimate beef that they weren't playing tonight. I agree with the comments on the OU offense, I've never seen any offense on a roll like they are. I don't see how Florida will be able to keep up with them for 60 full minutes, that game could be similar to OU's game against Oklahoma State last week IMO. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) Karl Dorell and Sylvester Croom agree :-P. Ha I forgot all about Karl Dorell. But ok, so 1 in 4 black coaches suck (although I think the dude at Houston and Shannon at Miami are going to do a good job too), no different than the white guys. I just think 3 out of 119 is a joke, that is all. You know what I'm trying to say. -
If he's not the best pitcher ever to live on a fastball that rarely (if ever) got above 90 miles per hour, I'd love to know who is. He's one of the best ever period though, it's a shame guys like him can't just pitch forever.

Note to Ball State: Make sure you win your conference before you whine about the BCS, dodge Boise State, etc etc. However, I couldn't be happier for Turner Gill and Buffalo. That has been perhaps the worst program in America since they went 1-A about a decade or so ago. For him to get that thing turned around so fast is absolutely a great job, and now a MAC Title as a reward. I hope he gets his deserved chance at a better football school in due time, and it's amazing what happens when a black coach not named Tyrone Willingham is given a chance. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 08:14 AM) Former NBA player Rodney Rogers paralyzed in accident. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3744237 Absolutely horrible news. Something like this is horrible to happen to anybody, but Rogers was known as one of the good guys in the NBA when he played and has done a lot of good things since he stopped playing as well. Hopefully he can live a full life and gain as much health back as possible, but what a tragic story that is.
