  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) Are there any good web-sites to buy College Football Merchandise? I would think a good idea here is to go to the school bookstore website (almost all school bookstores have them) of the school whose merchandise you'd like to purchase. In general, finding college football merchandise can be pretty hit and miss unless you are looking for the gear of a USC, Ohio State, Florida, etc.
  2. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I would never believe of all sports, Hockey would suspend their players over this. What a joke, PC my ass. Agreed. I don't care how big of a jery Avery is, to suspend him 6 games over that comment is absolutely pathetic. Btw, the Blackhawks are the "clubhouse leaders" (along with the Flyers) to acquire Mats Sundin according to the Denver Post. http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2008/12/04/sundin-or-no/ Thoughts?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) They might try and make him a hitter. That would be my guess, I know he was a stud hitter at Kent State. Wasn't he a top 10 overall pick in the first round as well? Typical KW move.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) No, but they might strip a draft pick or two from the White Sox. Because he said he wouldn't start the guy? Don't be ridiculous. I know you hate KW, but at least be logical.
  5. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) I really hoped we had heard the last of OC....actually if he does come back it wouldn't bother me too much, at least we'd have one of our holes filled. That's how I look at it too to be honest, but I don't think there is any way he's on our roster on March 1st, unless you can't trade guys who took arbirtation and I don't know about it. I can't imagine we'd bring him back, it's clear what the organization thinks of him. Kenny saying he'd be a backup to Chris Getz and guys like that makes me laugh though, he can't expect anybody to actually take a comment like that seriously I would hope.
  6. Sounds like a game of chicken to me being played by both sides, but if he accepts arbitration, he'll be traded before spring training starts IMO.
  7. Two highly ranked teams narrowly survive upset bids as Oklahoma beats USC by 1 in Norman and UConn wins by 4 at Buffalo (no idea why they agreed to go into a hornets nest like that).
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Auburn was retarded in firing Tubby. There's no one out there who you can say is better. Saban now owns the state of AL because of that firing. Agreed 100 percent, although as PHF said Auburn would be doing well if they get a guy like Gary Patterson. And yeah Rock he did "resign", but they have been trying to run him out of town for years, and he "resigns" after his first really bad season in a while and a blowout loss to Alabama? What a coincidence.......not, if he hadn't resigned, they would have fired him.
  9. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) Have you ever been so tired that your motor skills begin to fail? It feels kinda like being drunk. Whenever I get that tired, my attention span goes away, my vision becomes blurry, and I get hungry. I have never done drugs, but I've told people before that I feel like I have when I get really tired.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Of course those high schoolers arent representing a professional organization, a city and a franchise when they make sexually suggestive comments. They also arent making them on TV in front of a million people. They were 100 percent correct in their actions. A general suspension is one thing and I'd have agreed with that, but to suspend him indefinitely seems over the top. We will have to wait and see how long he's actually suspended though to have a real idea how long the suspension is.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) He didn't really have the chance to go to Illinois. Correct, and I'll never understand how he got UNC to offer him a scholarship either. He wasn't an overwhelming player in high school at all. I think the ACC/Big 10 being as close as it was says more about the ACC than the Big 10. Sure teams like Northwestern and Michigan showed the Big 10 has more depth, but it's still a weak league in terms of it's top teams, and your league is only as good as it's best teams IMO. The ACC is pretty down this year overall, although it's top team is amazing and a few teams after that are pretty good.
  12. If the girl is 11, she should be thankful her parents even let her have a myspace, so her privacy rights are gone. I would agree that the 15 year old loses his right to privacy too, but a few softcore porn pics for a 15 year old is pretty damn normal. Obviously you have to punish him to a degree and try and teach him the right things, but it's not something I would worry about if I were Alpha Dog.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Five point win at UNI. First win for McDermott against the MVC in 7 tries. Brackins channels his inner Beasley, 32 and 16. Well with a first name such as his, he has to be a stud. And wow Northwestern. I'm sure FSU played awful, but Northwestern is improving talentwise, well for Northwestern anyways. The Big 10 really had a great chance to FINALLY win the Challenge this year, people were right that predicted that, but still couldn't quite get it done. Btw, UIC won by 19 at Vandy tonight. So much for that being an impressive, or even a relevant win for the Illini. That sucks too, I thought it would be a nice resume win for the guys in orange.
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) As Lee Corso woulda say...NOT so fast my friend. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3743006 Correct me if I'm wrong law experts (where you at to help us out Soxbadger?) but I don't think that judge has the authority to do something like that. It's collectively bargained stuff that got them in trouble, regardless of what their excuse is.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) I'm curious how the NHL can freaking suspend the guy for saying something that high schoolers say? You allow fighting in your game, bloodied men screaming at the stands after pummeling one another, but he can't say "sloppy seconds"? ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME!? I have to agree. Avery seems like a first class jerk and I don't like him, but to suspend a guy indefinitely for a comment like that is going way overboard, and most people would agree if they weren't blinded by their hate for Avery IMO.
  16. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) What??!!! The reason why Frank Williams never made it in the NBA is because he didn't care. He tried to let his talent get him through. Demetri reminds me so much of Frank. Not even so much in their style of play, but in the sense that he's a run the show guard who at times looks amazing and does whatever he wants, but at other times appears to not be interested. I hold no ill will towards Frank and his Illini career, but I hope Demtri finds that next level of "want to" that Frank never did and has the NBA career that Frank could have had.
  17. So, Steph Curry has a younger brother who is a true freshman at Liberty. Seth Curry is averaging 22 points and almost 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game through 6 games of his college career, shooting 45.5 percent (although "only" 37 percent beyond the arc and 71.4 from the free throw line) and Liberty is 5-1. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/players/81731
  18. I am not smart enough to answer question 1, but the answer to question 2 is it depends on how the administration reacts. Even though they ended up going overboard with the patriot act and phone wiretapping and so on, the INITIAL reaction of the GWB administration after 9/11 was good, or at least was preceiving to be very good by the public (if you remember, his approval ratings for a while were very high after 9/11). The reason he got re-elected is he was supposedly "tough on terror", and that goes directly back to his administration's 9/11 reaction. Just my opinion, and I agree with Flash's professor who said Al-Qaeda won't act again on American soil until they can top 9/11. In that sense, maybe the lack of activity attackwise on our soil the last 7 years is a byproduct of us preventing "the next big one" and not us preventing terrorism in general. If they wanted to set off a bomb in a mall and kill a dozen people, they could do it even here in America. But they have their eyes on bigger things.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) Weis might be coming back next year: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...p&type=lgns The buyout must be too expensive. Only reason he could be staying.
  20. Btw, the 2 games in saw him in person, again FWIW (both middle of the season, my bad with the memory): http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=...F?gid=280610117 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=...F?gid=280713108 He actually had a decent outing in one of the games, but I remember it well because he was hit hard all day, a lot of "at him balls". And I watched the gun close both games, never got above 92.
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) Why does everyone think the #1 team in the nation is going to get ran over by an overrated Florida team? Because Alabama isn't flashy and Florida is the hottest team in the land outside of MAYBE Oklahoma?
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) FWIW, I read some posts on a Reds board that was linked to here, and someone over there was saying the Reds took away his FB for much of the year to concentrate on his offspeed stuff. Also I read that his velocity was back up at the end of the year and he was sitting in the mid-90's with his FB. I have no idea why his velocity would have been down on his FB earlier, unless he was trying to do something different with the pitch, but I imagine that if there were any problems whatsoever Bailey would have been shut down immediately. Instead he made 27 starts combined for Triple A Lousiville and the Reds. That's why I hate this deal. His velocity wasn't there and he was clearly healthy enough to pitch because they'd have shut him down otherwise. FWIW I saw him in person twice last year, once earlier in the season and once later on, and he looked equally atrocious stuffwise both times.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) What do you say we give up Floyd and Danks, Thome and get back Mcarthy and Garcia, and Rowand? Those guys were pretty important in the run to the World Series too. A GM can't base any descion on PR or loyalty. Homer Bailey is 22, ballplayers usually peak at 27 just two years ago he was the next big thing, he has a few years to go before he can be ruled a former pitching prospect. It has nothing to do with loyalty, it has to do with the fact that Homer Bailey was a vastly overrated pitching prospect who couldn't get above 92 on the radar gun last year, had flat offspeed stuff, and couldn't get anybody out. To trade Jermaine Dye for him would be simply stupid.
  24. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) The fans are just one aspect. I'm not even going to go into the baseball aspect, as it's fairly obvious how terrible of a deal it would be. Nah I know what you mean, trading one of your most popular players and the former World Series MVP for a flameout former pitching prospect would be a PR disaster.
  25. Bulls lose in OT to Philly. I know beating a team twice in 3 nights is VERY difficult, but the Bulls have to win a game like that if they want to make the playoffs (feel like a broken record as I made this point about the Illini and the NCAA Tournament earlier, but it's true). WAY too many turnovers tonight as Rose even got into the act in that regard (although he was great otherwise), and poor shooting and rebounding tonight as well. Tyrus had a nice game at least, blah that was a tough loss.
