  1. I can't stand Mac Jurko and Harry, they are like the stereotypical Chicago sports fans. I love Waddle and Silvy, and I think the perspective Mully and Hanley bring as sportswriters is a very good listen, especially in the morning. But B&B is the best show by far IMO, I mean their two "sidekicks" in Drinky and Goff are both hosts I like, let alone in the roles they are for that show. Plus I love the "schtick" B&B have. I wish Drink and/or Goff would get their own show, but that's for another day. I used to like Laurence Holmes a lot more, but since he got his own show (well, and teamed with Dan Hampton, who sucks big time), I am not as big a fan. He seems to have changed a bit in the last several months, and that is unfortunate.
  2. QUOTE (lord chas @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) harrell not invited to new york. what a joke Who should he have been invited over?
  3. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) Cole Aldrich says, Jordan Who?? People know who Cole Aldrich is, I don't think anybody has any idea who Jordan Hill is. If you bring up Arizona, people think of Budinger, tiny Nic Wise, even Brandon Jennings despite the fact he's in Europe, before they think of Hill. He's a fantastic player.
  4. Illinois did a great job on Holston tonight, they held down Chicago State way more than I would have anticipated. And yeah, the Wainwright thing isn't working, I'd imagine he's in trouble after this season. Beyond that, my only two thoughts are first, Gonzaga is REALLY good. This is without question the most talented team they have had since they started this run of success 10 years ago, and they might finally make the Final Four this year. Also, Jordan Hill on Arizona might be the most underrated player in the nation. Really like his game, and I'd think in a draft class this weak, he'd be a first round if not borderline lottery pick.
  5. Although it is a bit of a weasel move by Leno, I'm not upset by it. As long as Conan is still going to be on an hour earlier as planned, making it a more reasonable time for people like me to watch his show nightly, I'm happy.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) Are all the people pissed about the off-season so far the same ones asking for the team to be blown up for pretty much all of the 2007-2008 seasons? I'm not pissed about this off-season yet for the record. I am a bit concerned at this point though, looking at our roster and moreso, the fact that it's questionable that we're willing to spend much to fill the holes on this team. We've spent a lot of money the last few years, but it feels like between that and the economy, we've almost ran out of it.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) Yet, we've only finished below 3rd place once in KW'd 8 season tenure. And we've only finished above 2nd place twice in those 8 seasons, whereas the Twins have 4 times. I think there is reason to have reasonable trust in KW, but he's nowhere near earned the status of complete trust under all circumstances.
  8. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) I don't think Weber is much of a coach really. I'm not going to argue this because you can make a case for it, but 2004-2005 showed he can win when great players are there, and although it's not fair to make the comparison, he's going to have some outstanding players in the coming years.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) Well, you won't win a championship, but you'll make the playoffs and maybe get out of the second round. Magic would play either Boston or Cleveland in the 2nd round, and there is no way in hell they could beat either of those teams.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) I really can see where you’d get that impression. I think the fact that it’s on at 3, and I’m half delusional by then, adds to the entertainment. For sure. If I saw that show at 10 at night or a normal hour, I'd think it's stupid as can be. But by 2 or 3 am, anything is funny and it's so damn bizare that i'm entertained by it.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) ESPN's "the SEC is better than the NFL" leg got kicked out this season so now they are on the "Tebow wasnt the best player on the field, but should win the Heisman because of his leadership" bandwagon. Someone has to tell all the other players that outperformed Tebow that they have zero leadership. Colt McCoy is WAY more valuable to his team than Tim Tebow, not to mention he had a better season. I'd be surprised if Bradford doesn't win though, as this is more of an MOP award than MVP.
  12. QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) watching Northern Iowa at Iowa on ESPNU. Iowa is so boring its not even funny. For sure, but Lickliter is a very good coach and they are getting better, a trend I expect to continue. The Big 10 is really on the way up in the near future IMO with coaches like Lickliter, Beilein, Smith, and Crean now in the league to go along with guys like Izzo, Ryan, Weber, Matta, and Painter. To me, the only "weak" coaches in the league are DeChelis (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and Carmody, and even their teams are showing signs of improvement so far this year, although where or not that lasts is debateable (I think NU is heading in the right direction talentwise at least).
  13. Even if you don't watch Fox News ever, if you get a night where you can't sleep or are pulling an all nighter, Red Eye is worth a look. It's on at like 2 in the morning and is REALLY strange, but everytime I have seen it I found it to be hysterical. Plus, it helped me discover Patti Ann Browne, who is quite hot even though I'd guess she's almost 40 years old.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) Maybe I'm just too used to the current administration, but I really don't like how this smells, where Axelrod was a few weeks back saying the PresE and Blago had spoken regarding the Senate seat and now is saying he "Misspoke". I'd feel worse about it though if it weren't for that little clip of Blagojevich, um, talking in a less than polite manner about the PresE. For all the things we heard about Obama throughout the campaign that we are supposed to be afraid of, the one that has worried me the most since the start is his deep roots in Illinois politics. Obviously there are A LOT of clean, good hearted people in politics here, but you simply do not know who you can and can't trust and that's a scary proposition. Hopefully Obama is one of the clean, good hearted people as he certainly looks to be one right now.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) I'm thinking Emil Brown. "Just because I have a career .317/.377/.481/.858 line against the White Sox doesn't mean you can throw out such blatently false accusations."
  16. Brian Ross on ABC News says that speculation is that Senate Candidate #5, the one who supposedly offered money or campaign funds for the seat, is Jesse Jackson Jr.
  17. It's also interesting that they seemed to stop a crime spree in progress here. A lot of the stuff he's being charged with was very recent, and had they not arrested Blago today, they could have got a lot more dirt on him. Then again, it's a good thing they stopped him before he did more stuff wrong and as governor, and they must they they have plenty of dirt on him as it is to get him in the clink for a while.
  18. I thought the argument people were making is he's not a naturalized citizen because he lived in Indoenesia or something. I mean, this is all obviously BS, but I thought the goofs had at least admitted he was actually born in Hawaii.
  19. The irony in this is that he wanted to force people at the Trib to be fired (I'd imagine that's an impeachable offense) because they wanted him impeached. I know he did a lot of other things wrong and is going to spend many years in jail, but that especially stood out to me. It's a great day that Blago has been caught, but it's just another statement at how pathetic and embarassing our state's government is. I think it's almost impossible to fix at this point, they can't throw everybody in jail (although I really like Fitzgerald, and he might try and do just that).
  20. I'll be at the December 20th game for the Illini against Detroit. I get to see them play in person quite a bit, but very rarely at Assembly Hall, so looking forward to it. Nice to see them win today, and they better be ready to run Thursday. Chicago State won't beat them, but they press all game long and David Holston is a stud at 2nd in the nation in scoring. Also, the Illini were outrebounded 39-14 and that's just unacceptable, even if they did kind of sleepwalk to an easy win tonight.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Yet again, Blago being Blago. Pretty much all his political moves can be described as follows: --Find a hot topic of discussion --Place self firmly in populist corner --Suggest something warm and fuzzy to "help" the people effected --The suggestion will serve no actually helpful purpose --The suggestion will cost money, but he will veto any increase in revenue OR cuts in service to achieve it --He will get mad at the legislature for not magically creating funds to accomplish it --In the end, nothing happens I give you, our governor. Yes. In retrospect, his dog and pony show act before the blood had even been cleaned up from our campus, full of lies about the money the state would give us to do something respectable with Cole Hall, was absolutely sickening.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) It's way too early to be saying ANYTHING about Chris Williams one way or another. If you want to b**** about something, that's valid, but what's to be b****ed about is that they ignored the red flags on his back injury and drafted him over Otah, which was pretty dumb. But if he recovers from his injury and comes back strong once he's been through camp, this whole season becomes moot. Yeah my issue with Williams is the fact they took him over Otah at all. The fact they took him over Otah even with Williams' injury red flags just made it a lot worse.
  23. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) The Reds could be floating this one with the hopes of setting the market price for Bailey that high. On the backside they could be whispering, hey the Sox are offering Dye, whatcha got? You are possibly correct, but nobody would give up that much for Homer Bailey, so I can't imagine it will work.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:54 AM) So.....Chris Williams....Is he going to play? A couple more gem offensive draft picks from Angelo in Williams and Earl Bennett. I know Matt Forte has obviously been much better than a rookie 2nd round pick, and Josh Beekman has been adequate this year, but for the most part, Angelo's offensive draft picks have been just horrific.
