  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 12:58 AM) I'm just excited Mizzou gets another shot at these teams. They've done a good job of making Tech look not like Tech the last 2 years. Mizzou, regardless of who they play in the Big 12 Title game (you guys are officially in now right?) can completely screw the BCS by winning that game. I think they might just do it too.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) UCLA struggling against the zone. Obviously comparing the talent level and competition of UCLA and SIU is apples and oranges (although SIU had a much tougher opponent tonight), but watching both of them feels similar for me at times in the sense that it feels like they are designed to play defense only, not so much score points. I know that isn't how it is, but it feels that way.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) It would really be awesome if they could find a way into the Tourney this year. I think this was probably the toughest out of conference game on the schedule, so maybe can go into conference play undefeated. Also between McCamey, Davis, Tisdale, and Legion the illini got a pretty decent group of what will be upper classmen to mix with the upcoming good recruiting classes. If this group is good enough to make the tourney, they are going to be even better next year and the year after than I think. And I have the 2010-2011 team as a MINIMUM sweet 16 squad, and certainly possible they will be better than that.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Real nice win for Illinois tonight For sure, a close road win against a decent team like that is a good early season remedy to try and forget last season ever happened.
  5. I would hope they would get more than Nylander for Buff.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) Either way this team has made some gigantic strides since last year. It would be hard for them not to. Legion is obviously going to help, but I think this is just an NIT team. Still a definite improvement over last year, although the real fun starts next year and the year after when the calvary arrive and guys like McCamey, Davis, Legion, and Tisdale will be upperclassmen.
  7. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Outside of that, Gordon also has only 5 more shot attempts on the year than Rose. Keep in mind, Rose is the PG and is supposed to be distributing, while Gordon is the team's SG and is supposed to shoot. All this ballhog talk about Gordon is not valid. People just bring it up because he's in a contract year and don't think he'll resign. Rose and Gordon are the only guys worth keeping on this team. Rose has the ball at all times, Gordon not so much. The shot per touch ratio for these two would show just how much more often Gordon shoots it per touch, not to mention Rose is shooting at a higher percentage than Gordon is this year. The reason the Gordon is a ballhog issue is being brought up is HE IS a ballhog. Now, the Bulls need him to shoot and need him to score so it's not horrible that he's a ballhog, but facts are facts and people have brought this issue up since the day he put a Bulls uniform on. The reasons people don't like Ben Gordon are obvious: 1. He shoots a lot (that's not my problem with him, but whatever) 2. He's a 6'2 shooting guard (that's a problem, even if you don't agree) 3. He shoots a low percentage for a guy with a scoring reputation (43 percent in his career) 4. He doesn't play defense, care about defense, or even try on defense
  8. Vandy has only forced 5 turnovers and their 3 point defense has been non-existant. However, they are still only down 1 and still at home so I'd expect the Commodores will pull it out. Hope I am wrong though!
  9. I don't have a lot to say except I hope this goes as well as the last offseason Cuban signing about a year ago! It sounds like this is a great move though, hopefully Dayan is ready to play in Chicago at some point in 2009.
  10. I am not sure why I feel this way as I don't even realistically think that she is hotter or anything, but I prefer Charissa Thompson over Erin Andrews for some reason, especially now that she ditched the brown hair she briefly had.
  11. I wouldn't mind having him on the club, but one of Ozzie's big weaknesses IMO is he doesn't use guys like this properly.
  12. QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) That didn't stop Morneau from winning it in 2006, when he was the third best player on his own team. I know that, he shouldn't have won either. Many of the baseball writers are stuck in 1975 in terms of their outlook on the game, and thus get a lot of this stuff wrong.
  13. The number 7000 seems like a round and realistic answer to me.
  14. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) I know what I have experienced in my life. Racism is just as prevelent from the blacks as it is from the whites. You can use all the stats you want to you, but I've been around for a while and I've seen it and lived it. On that note, I'm out of here. I just said the "vote due to race" issue was pretty close to even on both sides with that stat i presented, which pretty much agrees with you. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) I don't remember where it was posted, but it seems to be me like the areas that had the biggest moves towards Obama were in the North and is more minority populated areas. I won't argue that being possible, but it seems the "black who voted for Obama because he was black" group was much more spread out nationwide than their counterparts. I would be glad to be proven wrong if stats for the black vote in a certain area like the ones for the southern white vote early in this thread exist though.
  15. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) But you made a point to point that out, but totally ignored that fact that 97% of the black voters voted for Obama. Which is a way of saying that southerners are racists bastards and the overwhelming majority of blacks voting for Obama is justified because he was the first opportunity to vote for one of their own. Well, I see that as racist as well. And the fact that Obama's father was from Kenya means that Obama is not a decendant of a slave so he really doesn't have that connection with the majority of the African-American citizens of this nation. He's another of the elitists that have been running this nation since it's inception. He's distantly related to Dick Cheney and he fits right in with the fact that the majority of the US presidents have had royal blood running through their veins. Obama is not any different than the rest other than the fact his skin tone is not what we are used to. He's cut from the same cloth. I believe 93 percent of blacks voted for Kerry. So there was a small shift to Obama from the black vote due to his color, just as there was a small percent of white people who voted for McCain due to his color. I'm not denying that this exists on both sides at all. My only point is the fact that the numbers also show that the shift to McCain happened almost exclusively in the south, and you know the rest. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) No, they aren't. It was a joke sir. You know, ha ha, funny?
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Ha, this is so true, I tried explaining this to my wife. My brother went out and got a tattoo with what he called the 7 most recognizable buildings written over "My City" on one of his shoulders, and my wife was wondering why he loved the city so much he had to do that, and why I talk about the city so often. She's never met anyone else like that and I told her we weren't unique. New York is the only other place that rivals Chicago for civic pride, and to a lesser extent, Atlanta is like that too, maybe Southern Californians. You won't hear someone from Cleveland, Philly, Boston etc. sounding like that. Absolutely, and the reason we Chicagoans think we're better than everybody else is......well, WE ARE better than everybody else.
  17. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) Why is that? 1. 17th in the AL in OPS, and doesn't play near the defense to make up for that fact in terms of an MVP race. 2. Was a distant 2nd in terms of being the MVP of his own team. There are plenty of other reasons he shouldn't have won, but those two alone are more than enough to show this obvious fact in my opinion.
  18. I'd argue CQ deserves the award more than Pedroia does even with the missed time. Pedroia winning is a joke.
  19. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) That being said, there is still this utopia point of view regarding racism that is simply not the way it actually is in real life. Being pro-Obama makes everybody feel good and believe they are above and beyond prejudice. I call bulls*** on that because politicaly correct. Yet, the predjudice is still there ... whether it is focused on people of a different skin shade or people from a different region. In general, you people (and yes I am using the "you people" expression) think you are above and beyond any prejudice, but I got news for you, you aren't. I'm not going to argue any of this is blatently inaccurate, although I wasn't an Obama supporter and still feel good about myself and know I'm not prejudice, and I don't think racism doesn't exist in the north. I go to NIU, and we've had our own race issues personally, so I know it exists up here for a fact, plus I know Chicago isn't the greatest example of racial harmony either. The only point I've tried to make in this entire thread is that the fact that the ONLY part of America that saw a patterned and noticeable shift further towards the republican party (according to several statistical maps) in the presidential election was in the south. Combining that fact with the history of the south and even the current times in the south would lead you to logically conclude that race was a small factor in the voting patterns down there. A small factor (the shift was only a handful of points even in the areas where it went to the right the most), but a factor nontheless. If the map had looked different for voting patterns, showing that only the great lakes or rust belt had voted more for the republican candidate this year than in 2004, I would be saying something like "wow, it's not the only factor in these numbers, but race problems in my area of the country are worse than I'd have ever guessed". But that's not how the numbers shook out so that's not what I said.
  20. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Exactly! But read the thread, if you voted for Kerry you had to vote for Obama. That was the assumption. And if you didn't the only reason that was agreed upon was people in those states are racist. Why couldn't voters in those four southern states have voted for Kerry then McCain, same as any other election this country has ever had? This is getting off topic (to an issue of relevance even), but how could anybody vote for Kerry in 2004 due to disguist with Bush, then vote for McCain in 2008? I know he isn't the same guy as Bush, but that logic doesn't really compute with me.
  21. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) I'm telling you, there is a very prevelant anti-southern sentiment in the Chicago area whether you (not specifically you, lostfan) choose to admit it or not. I know this for a fact because I lived it. Words cannot convince me otherwise. I won't argue against this point. There is anti-southern sentiment in the north, and there is anti-northern sentiment in the south (experienced that personally in the summers in Birmingham I mentioned, without question). That has existed going back to the Civil War days (if not earlier), and I don't know if it will ever go away. Regionalism is a price that you pay as a nation for a long time when you fight a war against yourself.
  22. I'm sure it's been posted in here but i'll ask it too: the one question I have is which country would even allow these people into their borders at this point? Even if we take the extreme viewpoint and say they are all innocent, no country wants the stigma now attached to them within their borders in my opinion. If even one single person God forbid goes back to terrorism and helps execute an attack in your country, how would you like to be the leadership that decided to let him in? I am not against removing these guys from Gitmo, but they are going to be like nomads IMO.
  23. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Problem is from the Warriors' perspective, they've already got a backup scrapper bigman in Ronny Turiaf, so I don't know if they would want Noah (and Nelson would probably want someone with a better shooting ability). I think something could be worked out though, and I do really rate Wright as a prospect. I like Wright as well, and anything that gets the Bulls two live, big bodies with skill like Harrington and Wright is a good idea at this point. I'd do whatever I could to work it out if I were the Bulls and this poissibility exists.
  24. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Would the Bulls do Brandon Wright and say Harrington for Noah and Hinrich? Don't know if that would work cap wise however. It would. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...p;te=&cash= I'd do that trade in a SECOND if I were the Bulls. Not so sure if Golden State would though.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) *raises hand* I've lived in TN, IL, CO and IA. Just for reference. Also for reference, although I have never lived permanently in the south, I spent the better part of 3 summers growing up in the Birmingham area, and what I saw there is where a lot of my opinions in this thread in part come from.
