I'm not sure if this was posted in here, but I HATE that as a kid, my dumbass teachers made me do all of that practice to learn how to write in cursive. Complete waste of time, I haven't written a single thing in cursive other than my signature since junior high and it's been of no consequence.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) As a side note, I think all steroids and PEDs should be legal - they make the game better. You have the right to think that and I can definitely see a case made for your side of the debate. But at the same time, they aren't legal, and thus all of these guys that did take them are cheaters and should be looked down upon accordingly in my opinion. On a side note, baseball and football of the last few decades are starting to look like nothing more than wrestling without the fixed outcomes (and some would even argue the last part of that statement with how officiating is at times). I saw a story on ESPN how the 1963 San Diego Chargers, who won the AFL, were the first team to really use steroids. I didn't realize it went back THAT far, and it's just sad to see these sort of things.
-
If Jose Canseco says somebody used steriods, it's pretty clear they did. It's sad that somebody like that is the authority on this stuff, but it's true. The only 3 guys that even can be considered clean of relevance anymore are Thomas, Griffey, and Thome. And you can't even be sure with them anymore, just pretty sure. Another guy knocked out of the hall of fame today in A-Rod.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) i dunno wtf is up with this team. they can't buy a bucket to save their lives. They are a classic first weekend and out NCAA Tournament team. They beat up their non conference schedule, which was pretty weak (although the Missouri win looks great right now, but the Clemson loss really stings), and have defended home court and struggled on the road in league play. That's just what teams like that do, ESPECIALLY this year where teams are struggling on the road even more than usual it seems. The good news for Illinois is after tonight, their road schedule is at Northwestern, Indiana, Ohio State, and Penn State. Going 2-2 in that should be expected, and 3-1 is even possible in my opinion. Although with Sparty, Purdue, Penn State, and Minnesota still to visit Champaign, I doubt they win all of their Big 10 home games. Illinois is fine, they are an NCAA Tournament team, just not a Big 10 Championship team. I am satisfied with what they are, we knew this season wasn't going to be idea with the current roster and I think Bruce and the players have done a nice job, assuming they don't collapse down the stretch. It's all about the future with the recruits coming in the next two years (and likely beyond), and this year has been a good building block. -

I like NIU's class, although it may not be done. Already had late signing #1 today apparently (a JUCO offensive guard), and there are at least 5 guys I know of who didn't sign yesterday and have interest in us. Combine that with the fact we have a few open scholarships, and this class might not be over yet. As of now though, we missed on a few guys but I still like the class. Six guys from Florida and two from Texas is very unusual for us, but I like the idea a lot. We'll see how it works in coming seasons. As for Urban Meyer, f*** that arrogant bastard. I don't think Lane Kiffin is doing much to endear himself to many people, but I'll take anybody's side against Meyer. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) We were scared of the Carbondale Denny's. That place was shut down it seemed like once a year for health code violations I wish I had known this before I went to that Denny's twice when I was in Carbondale recently.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 07:44 AM) Loved seeing Duke get exposed as a fraud last night. In order for Duke to play as an "elite" team this year they literally need everything to go perfectly. Duke will be lucky to make it into the sweet sixteen again It's the same Duke team as it has been the last several years. Win at home because of the refs, but when it counts (on the road and in neutral games in March), they are not deep enough, too short, too skinny, and not athletic enough. This is the 5th straight season they have fit that description too. -
THE CARDINALS WON THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) I have yet to see definitive evidence that his toe ever touched the endzone. That is all. Of course, I have also yet to see definitive evidence that Warner's fumble wasn't really an incomplete pass. And I have yet to see definitive evidence that either of his toes DIDN'T touch in the end zone. The photo in post #2 of this thread holds just as much water as the one in post #1, and since it was called a touchdown on the field and there was no conclusive evidence either way, you have to stick with it. I'm frankly shocked by the sour grapes so many people (not you perhaps, but there are some people who fit this description) who were bandwagon Cardinal fans on Sunday have about this game. If Arizona's defense could have come up with a stop, they'd have won the Super Bowl. If they could have just held Pittsburgh to a field goal, they'd have had a shot in overtime. If Kurt Warner properly reads a zone blitz at the end of the first half, Arizona probably wins the Super Bowl too. Yet everybody blames the officials. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Signing day is not unlike a draft for some of us, I LOVE recruiting. Exactly, same here. It just baffles me that people make fun of recruiting fans, but at the same time love the NFL Draft. It's very hypocritical in my opinion. -

I can't stand the holier than thou people who say we're stupid for finding today interesting because recruiting is inexact and these are 17 and 18 year old kids. They are idiots, today is the college football version of the NFL draft, except the teams get a lot more players today than they do that day in April. Anybody who says today isn't important but follows the NFL Draft (and the latter group includes almost everybody who says today isn't important) is a hypocrite. Michael Wilbon, who I normally like, is one of those people and he should be ashamed. I think some people talk today and it's importance over the top, but most people (like everybody posting in this thread today) take the events of this day for what they are and just have fun with them. And sorry for that rant, but I wanted to throw this topic out there. -

NIU is in a similar boat to Illinois in that we missed out on a few guys here down the stretch, but still have a pretty damn good class coming in. I'm interested to see how many guys we signed, we had room for a full boat of 25 guys (actually up to 28 I believe due to having a few early enrollees). -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Its pretty dumb IMO, but im sure the kids think its fun. Thats basically the only player out there that OSU is really hoping for and needs, but he'll prob stay south. I heard Tennessee made a late run on him actually, but yeah I think he ends up at Georgia. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) Radio out of Knoxville has Marlon Brown wearing OSU gear in school, makes me think its a pump fake and he will actually choose UGA. I don't get why kids do that, didn't Shaun Livingston wear Illinois gear the day he chose Duke? And another example of this happened yesterday. A girl I know who goes to USC lives next door to Byron Moore, who is a top football prospect. She saw him yesterday in Notre Dame stuff, and today he picked USC in ESPNU. I get when kids switch commitments or wait until the last second to decide and weigh their options, but pump faking is just a dick move. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) I didnt even think he took an official there. I thought it was USC, BYU, UCLA and Stanford. There is nobody who isnt shocked by this one. He did take an official to Notre Dame in November according to rivals and scout. Still a shocker though. -

Martin Havlat reminds me of Luol Deng. Different sports, but they are indeed both classic 3rd guys that can really produce in a spot like that, but if made any more important, they flounder. I was very impressed by the Hawks performance last night, the score isn't indicitive of how good they were. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Holy crap thats a shocker. ND really swooped in on that one. Did he even visit there? Didnt he visit all west coast schools? Is there a briefcase of unmarked bills sitting in his bedroom right now? He visited Notre Dame, but I tend to agree with the unmarked bills comment in that this one is a little fishy. -

I have followed these signing day decisions for several years now, and Te'o picking Notre Dame might be the most surprising decision I can remember seeing. Those Hawaii kids always seem to end up at west coast and Utah schools, especially LDS ones. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Wow he signed with ASU. Thats a complete shocker, #2 player out of Cali. Lack of playing time available, eventually, will cause USC some problems recruiting in my opinion. Not big problems, but kids want to play early on. And wow, Manti Te'o picks Notre Dame. Now that completely shocks me, he is deeply religious in the LDS church, from Hawaii, and he picks a Catholic school in Indiana? -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) Huh, I saw that on a board somewhere, shows what I know. Appleton is a pretty decent loss, but shouldnt hurt them too bad. I saw Telfort picked USC. Nah the only reason I know this is I have a friend whose best friend plays at Florida (well sits on the bench, lol), and apparently Jenkins has been a silent verbal for Florida for a while, but wanted to take all of his visits anyways (and who can blame him with some of the stuff that happens on those?) Although actually, I think he only ended up taking 3 visits, but oh well. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Jenkins to Fla? I thought he was a USC lock. Not sure who said that, he's been a Florida lock for a while. As for Appleton, I am not surprised. He recruitment was strange throughout, so it's fitting he would make a strange final decision. Even though Wisconsin occasionally gets receivers to the NFL, it's a traditional run first school with mediocre caretakers at quarterback. He will get a great education there though. Buchanan is a nice get for the Illini however, and they had a pretty good class when you consider they lost 3 of their best commits very recently. The problem of course though isn't recruiting, it's game day coaching. -
I believe estimates were in the 1.75 to 2 million range.
