  1. I'm bewildered as to why Z is out. He's not due up here anytime soon (and he hit the ball hard anyways), he only threw 6 innings and 85 pitches. I also doubt he'd have cramps, it's Phoenix so the humidity is absolutely zero, plus the Cubs don't have the bullpen depth to just do this for the heck of it when their starter is pitching really well.
  2. D'Backs have a definite advantage in terms of bullpens, so this is ok.
  3. That's such a Theriot hit........he's still awful, talk about lucky. DON'T THROW BIG Z A FASTBALL!!!! Thank you.........now get another run please Arizona.
  4. Webb is elevating the sinker, somebody needs to go out there and talk to him, whether it be the catcher or pitching coach, and tell him to quit overthrowing.
  5. lol @ Zambrano, what a spaz/dork. Anyways, that infield hit, although seemingly meaningless, got Augie on base and Webb out of the way so that the top of the order is up next inning. Hopefully Webb can twirl another zero up there this half inning and the Arizona top of the order can add a run or two on Zambrano, who has thrown 70 pitches and 5 innings, and will be making his 3rd trip through the order.
  6. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) I guess it's a good thing Zambrano got that double, because if he didn't Piniella would have bunted like he should have and it would have been 1-1. Interesting (and good) point, who knew a double by the opposing pitcher could end up being a blessing in disguise, but it was here.
  7. Wow, and now that flyball to CF for the 2nd out scores Theriot if you had bunted him to 3rd, but instead man on 2nd with 2 outs. Nice play Clark!!! They will be talking about not having Z bunt all day tomorrow if the Cubs lose this one, I can't believe Lou did that.
  8. What a TERRIBLE move to have Z swing away. I know he hit it hard and almost had a single, but you HAVE to bunt there and give yourself a chance to score and tie it without getting another hit. Lou with a rare tactical error.
  9. Wow, what an atrocious throw that was. Ugh.
  10. Wow, he knocked the s*** outta that ball!!! That went a solid 415 feet. 1-0 good guys.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) As CWS said earlier, and I've said for a week, this series is over though if the Cubs beat Webb tonight. In terms of talent on the field, this seems like the Red Sox/Angels series. Has anyone found out what would happen if the Cubs play Rockies in the NLCS, with regards to home-field ad? A Wild Card team can never have home field advantage unless it makes it to the World Series and it's league won the All Star Game, just as pre "this time it counts", a wild card team could never have home field unless it was it's leagues turn to have home field in the World Series and they made it there.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) I saw all day yesterday that it was supposed to rain on Saturday. Is that not true anymore? I have to go to a wedding at 5 with a bunch of Cubs fans....it's my own little hell. Not supposed to rain on Saturday, and there is only an isolated chance of late afternoon and nighttime storms on Sunday.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) The thing is, it's likely going to rain this wknd in Chicago. Piniella already has given his team the upper-hand by going with a 3 man rotation. What crackhead is giving you the forecast? It's going to be dry all day Saturday, and the rain Sunday won't get here until night, and it's a noon game.
  14. Hahaha Chris Young's AB song is "Soulja Boy Crank That". I want him to do well now just for that. SUPERMAN THAT HO!!!!!
  15. How golden would it be if Augie Ojeda turns out to come up with a key play that kills the Cubs in this series?
  16. WOW, that was impressive. I think the leadoff double by Z caught Webb's attention, strikeout the top 3 in order afterwards.
  17. Bob Melvin deserves a purple heart or some sort of great award for getting 90 wins out of this cast of characters in a division with 3 very solid teams. Zambrano is falling behind so many hitters, and I don't care who is in this lineup, if you keep doing that it will come back to get you. And there is a walk.
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) You know that most players are on HGH. Fixed.
  19. Theriot is such a terrible player, it amazes me he was able to scam his way into hitting so well the first few months. Anyways, Webb has his sinker going which means the Cubs won't be hitting home runs which means the Cubs won't be scoring runs. Get a couple on the board, D'Backs!!
  20. Wisconsin will lose by 2 touchdowns if they tackle like they did against Michigan State. I think Wisconsin will improve, but Illinois might run for 350 yards if Wisconsin tackles like that again, and Wisky won't be able to score 38 on the Illinois defense, so they better tackle better or not only will get get run all over, but those screens and slants to Benn will lead to disaster as well. And the idea of just putting 8 in the box and taking away the run doesn't work against Illinois, just ask Penn State. When a team is running 4 wide, shotgun sets with multiple threats carrying the ball from all over the field, including straight hand offs, fakes, pitches, option, motion handoffs to WR's, and QB keepers against Big 10 (slow) defenses......you are going to have problems stopping it no matter what defensive set you run. The only team good enough on defense to stop it is Ohio State, and thus I think most people with a sense of logic think Illinois will lose in Columbus.
  21. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) Cmon Angels, you guys better get the rally monkey going when you're at home. They are just far inferior to Boston, especially with the injuries. Boston's pitching will shutdown LA's already atrocious offense, and even if the Angels pitching can hold Boston to 3 to 5 runs a game, they are in trouble.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) I am disappointed that your first post in this thread is about how much you hate Wrigley Field instead of being about HOW BIG A CHOKER CHASE UTLEY IS!!!!!!!!!1111 Chase Utley hasn't blown 3 of the biggest games his franchise has played this decade as a pitcher like Jake Peavy has.
  23. This is just incredible dominance by Beckett, it reminds me of the work he did in the 2003 playoffs. They aren't even hitting the ball hard or coming close to a hit or walk AT ALL other than the leadoff hit and now the Vlad single. That's about as impressive a 7 innings I've ever seen somebody pitch at all at any level, let alone in a major league playoff game. Unless there is a drastic change in the final 2 innings, the Angels might as well warm up the bus, take the CG SHO, and hope to steal game 2.
