QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) While that is possible, let's not get ahead of ourselves. There are sophomores on rosters this year that everybody thought would only stay one year. Nothing is a done deal and making that assumption is a little premature before they have even played their 1st game of their senior year of HS. I'd agree 99 percent of the time, but these 2 are 2 of the best guards to come along in a decade, and are top 5 locks. And I'd be saying this even if both went to Illinois btw.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) Zues looks to be out for 4-6 weeks, Bulin broke a finger. Season.Over. Nikolai being hurt would be a huge boost for the defense actually.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) It doesn't help when he doesn't get the ball either. I know they were passing game was working and he was getting stuff, but he did break a few decent runs. I thought Novak should have left him in a little longer and try to get him at least 100 yards. Yea you are risking injury, but think about how getting him to NY would help recruiting. Well you can't get him hurt, they were putting 11 in the box so he's not going to find much anyways, and we've already used all but 4 or 5 scholarships on verbals (some public, some not), so the recruiting affect is minimal, although in either case, recruiting at NIU isn't a game of attention anymore, people know who NIU is footballwise, and NIU will continue to get top of the line recruiting classes by MAC standards. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) I agree. The only team to hold the #2 team in the country under 300 yards this season sucks ass. Huh? Big Blue had 330 yards today, and Wisky held them to 310. As for Iowa, their QB is overrated, their running game is wildy inconsistent, Douglas is the only legit WR on the team (Chandler, the TE, is good though) and the run defense, outside of the 1-AA games against Montana, Illinois, and Syracuse, has been terrible. However, with that said, your still going to go 8-4 or 9-3 if you upset Wisky during a down year, which is quite a statement about the program. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) 101, you follow recruiting, or so I have noticed. Do you think McDermott can maintain or improve this level of recruiting, which was really never attained with Morgan/Eustachy, even with what should be a downish year coming up? The Gordon thing made me look sooooooooooo stupid (but then again, same went for everybody else) but yeah I do follow recruiting. Even if you guys suck this year, it's only one year, so that's not going to keep recruits away. In fact, a new coach and the chance for PT might help recruiting to an extent, that along with being in the same league as Texas, OU, Bobby Knight, Kansas, etc. The one problem for McDermott in regards to recruiting is that he's young and has never coached outside the midwest or in any major urban areas, which means he's not buddy buddy with the HS and AAU coaches of top programs, which is half the battle in regards to recruiting. I would assume he will start where he knows things and recruit the midwest (and looking at current verbals in '07 and '08, looks like that's the plan) until he can expand his horizons. And that is where winning comes in, if he can get Iowa back to Eustachy levels, he's a young coach with a lot to sell recruitingwise. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) Actually that's EJ's message to Rose.... And that's one more year than he'll be playing at Illinois, unless I'm missing something. Go back to recruiting 2 and 3 star recruits, Bruce. Huh? EJ and Rose will obviously be gone after 1 year, but damn, take it and ignore everybody else. Those 2 could EASILY Carmeloize the Hoosiers.

Another 1 goal loss in a game the Hawks should have won tonight. *sighs*

Benn and Bussey's team were on ESPNU last night btw. I TiVo'ed it and watched it this morning, and both of them were impressive. Benn's mix of speed, power, and leaping ability make him a sure fire stud at the next level IMO. Bussey isn't a very good QB, but he has great speed (faster than Benn even it looked like) and was knocking people out on defense. I think he may end up as a safety or even an outside linebacker in college, depending on how much weight he can gain. As for the Illini, Justin Bocot from Bloomington is the guy your looking at in 2007. Very talented PG, but his attitude issues have held him back. This year he's SUPPOSEDLY gotten over that because he wants offers from Iowa and Illinois. Bocot is a higher rated recruit than Bill Cole actually, at least on Rivals (Bocot is #8 in Illinois, Cole #10), but he's no Eric Gordon.

Les Miles is such a bad coach, and that will be exposed as time goes on. His awful coaching was a big reason why LSU lost 2 games, and that's a shame, because to me, they are EASILY the 3rd best team I've seen, behind tOSU and Big Blue. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Kiss any chance Garrett Wolfe had at the heisman goodbye. Last week ended his chances to win, this week ended his chances to go to New York. At least we won and Nicholson got some time at QB. Now I'm just hoping we win out outside of at Iowa, go 8-4, and get that 3rd bowl bid the MAC now has. -

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 02:52 AM) He will be back, but im guessing one more season ending injury and he will probably retire. The good thing about him unlike Wood and Prior is he actually produces when he is healthy. Prior went 18-6 the only time we ever actually saw him healthy, point taken on Wood though. -

Mike Brown is basically a darker version of Prior and Wood without the towel. I like him as a guy, but go away after this year. Can't be having china dolls back there. -
QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Hey any word on when, Benn,Austin,Wilson and Hughes are going to commit to the Illini? Benn and Austin both visted and had great times apparently, I'd say there is a decent shot at those 2. Wilson's recruiting is WIDE open, I'd call him a long shot. Hughes looks like a 4 way battle between DA U, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Illinois....so that one is not going to be easy either. Should be a fun season up until early February though. Benn is the best shot here, it's really a 2 team race between ND and the Illini, and he loves Juice and Locksley.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) I'm not gonna quote you for stupidity one way or the other. I'm just not going to agree or disagree with you before we see what the hell mcbride's deal is (out 10 games? season?). That will make a huge difference, IMO. I think we'll defend fine again..we just need some guys to put the biscuit in the basket, to steal a hockey term. Can Randle shoot this year? Can Pruitt be relied on night after night? Etc. McBride will be back for conference i'm assuming, and the OOC is weak, so yeah. Randle is going to be a star IMO, Pruitt is really a wild card though. -

I know this will be argued a lot, but I guarantee this Illini team will be better than last years. They won't look much better in the final numbers (probably 3rd in the league and sweet 16), but they will be better. I hope this isn't quoted for stupidity later either, lol. -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) N. Central basketball star getting Internet threats Oct 19, 2006 05:25 AM CDT Sandra Chapman/Eyewitness News Indianapolis - He is considered one of the best high school basketball players in the country. Recently, he announced which university he'll attend. North Central's 17-year-old Eric Gordon has now seen the best and the worst of what Big 10 fans can dole out and he hasn't evey played his first college game. Earlier this year he indicated he would attend the University of Illinois. His change of heart to suit up for Indiana instead of Illinois was expected to draw some foul reaction, but death threats weren't really considered a possibility. "Where those things are coming from and going is mostly on the Internet," said North Central Coach Doug Mitchell. "When it's in the written word it seems so real." The Internet threats are considered so disturbing that Coach Mitchell says the North Central High School Athletic Department is considering increased security. Mitchell says fans who consider Gordon's choice a tragedy have lost perspective. "I don't want to talk about tragedy with anybody," he said, "I know what tragedy is. (Coach Mitchell lost his son, Bryce, in a tragic automobile accident more than four years ago). One young man not going to your school as opposed to another or coming to your school..." Mitchell stopped short and just shook his head. "This is a 17-year-old human being and we're talking about a game." The most offensive messages posted on Gordon's MySpace page are gone. These remain: "Thanks for vindictively ruining our basketball program." "Seriously? I.U. That's weak man, you screwed Bruce." On the other hand, the Indiana University fans have given Gordon's decision some glowing reviews. "Thanks for changing your mind. It's been a while since Indiana fans have been this happy." "All of you haters from Illinois are just showing why Eric did make the right decision." The message goes on to say, "Circumstances changed and he had every right to go with his heart and stay home." So how's Eric handling it all? His coach says he's doing well. "That's the beauty of Eric Gordon. He understands exactly who he is because he has such a strong family and such a strong extended family. The young man can only go to one school and he made his choice and I hope that everyone understands that," Coach Mitchell told Eyewitness News. Eric Gordon's mother says she is just as overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for her son as she is by the over-the-top reactions. Coach Mitchell says the NCAA tries to help prepare young recruits, but he can't remember a scenario quite like this. http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=5559529&nav=9Tai People are SO stupid. HE'S A 17 YEAR OLD KID, and this is a hard decision with a lot of outside sources trying to pry him certain ways. How can you blame HIM? If your pissed, talk to the kid's dad, Sampson, and Weber. And even then, threats?? What a bunch of fools.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Tillman is one of the worst CBs I have ever seen. He is HORRIBLE. Vasher at least can get INTs. Tillman belongs on the practice squad. The Tillman hate really makes me think that a lot of Bears fans have some sort of grudge. The reason Vasher is thrown at a lot is because Tillman is *gasp* actually a plus cover corner. A better one that Vasher, that's for sure. The reason this D has been so good this year is people are now afraid to throw at both of those guys (plus Manning is a good nickel). If you want blame for the Carolina game, blame Ron Rivera and Mike Brown. His refusal to stop putting Tillman on Smith caused a lot of those problems, plus Mike Brown's abominable play turned some 20 yard passes into 60 yard TD's since he decided to ignore the 2 deep coverage set on those plays. Tillman did indeed get way too much hype for the Randy Moss game in '03, but he's the best corner on the team, and Nathan Vasher should thank him daily, because those 9 picks he had last year were because people didn't throw at Peanut a lot. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) What does the best recruit available in Germany equal these days? Dirk. People will be waving the Hasselholf masks when he shoots free throws.

I hate going after any of these guys. Bidding millions just to negotiate with a guy who hasn't done it against top competition. Not worried here though, the Mariners and Yanks are a 2 team race for him.

Don't get me wrong, Lou is a real good manager. But their pitching coach sucks, their general manager sucks, and their talent on the field and in the system sucks. Lou isn't Jesus or something.
-
IF and only if we used him like the Angels use Adam Kennedy, IE a 200 hit, .290 hitter that steals a ton of bases and hits 8th or 9th for us, I'd like to have him. If he hits leadoff, no thanks.

QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) 1. Best opening in the HISTORY of athletics. 2. I REALLY hope we hear the names Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Nocioni, and Wallace after that intro. Not sure how much it matters though, since this team will literally play 10 or 11, if not 12 deep. -
Havlat is unbelieveable. 6 goals and 6 helpers (12 points) in 5 games. He NEEDS to stay healthy, because he's the first Hawk superstar in a decade, and him being on the ice makes everybody better. This team is going to give up too many goals, but they could get the 7 or 8 in the West. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) It will also be nice to Roots back. If he could stay healthy, him and Havlat would be crazy good. But Ruutu is turning into the Mark Prior/Kerry Wood of hockey.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) ""walks are no good if all they do is clog the basepaths so the faster guys can't run" Exactly. Heads has a better job at getting the A's manager job than Dusty and his whacked philsophies do.
