  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) No offense but that's bull. For the most part, the best teams win in October(I don't care what anyone says) but there are obviously exceptions to every rule and this might be one of them. I'm embarrassed right now to watch this damn thing. The Tigers are disgracing themselves and I'm really starting to dislike Cardinal fans(a few bad apples for every fan base, unfortunately I'm in Cards territory now). The thought of an 83 win team winning a championship does kind of make me sick though, not going to lie. The best teams GET to October. And on some occasions, a dominating team exists and they win (you could call us that to be honest, we did go 11-1 and wire to wire with the best record in the AL). But that's only 10 percent of the time IMO (1927 Yankees, 1976 Reds, 1998 Yankees, 2005 White Sox even). The other 90 percent of the time, you have pretty evenly matched playoff teams, and the one that gets the most luck wins.
  2. If the Cardinals finish this off, it continues to strengthen my theory that the MLB playoffs are about 90 percent luck. Not to diminish what teams do in October, but it's so much about luck. Hell, even us last year, if the A.J. play is called properly, we might go on the road down 2-0. That's why it's so important to MAKE the playoffs, because anything can happen.
  3. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) So Rooney is going to call 2 world series winners in 2 years... Good point, wow. What are the odds?
  4. Maggs makes the final out. Detroit is down 3-1, and could be beaten in 5 in St. Louis tomorrow. To an NL team. That won 83 games. Their miracle season of luck might have run out 1 series too early.
  5. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) Granderson couldn't possibly feel worse than he does now. This is one of those "goat" moments in the making. Of course it won't be the sole reason they'll lose this game (if it so happens), but you can obviously tell his misplay disrupted Rodney. It'll be the point referenced after the series if the cArdinals win. Rodney is the clear goat here. He gave up the hit to Wilson that put St. Louis up 4-3, and he turned a throw I could make into a huge error. Granderson just slipped on a wet field.
  6. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Didn't he originally commit to Oregon?? I believe that is correct. Btw, OT on that, but apparently the Illini are going to have several big time football verbals become public in the immediate future, as in a week or two at most. We'll see though.....
  7. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) Martez Wilson to Illinois? Stay tuned. Where did you hear this? He just announced a final 5 yesterday lol.
  8. AWESOME!! Razor on the staff AND Cora not coaching 3rd base?? *applauds*
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) Illinois may really hurt our recruiting plans if they land Jackson. Iowa looked to be where he was leaning but now it seems more 50/50 and he still has some hopes that his stock will increase and he'll have a shot at UNC. If Iowa lands Jackson it appears we'd land two top 50 recruits that are Iowa leans right now, but anything can happen. Iowa has the making of a sick recruiting class and we have a lot of top players leaning our way, but Alford has to close things out and seal the deal. The indications are he's been a STRONG Iowa lean for a while, but Illinois still gets whoever they want from central Illinois, so that one is very hard to predict. Will be a lot of gnashing of teeth in Chambana and the IC over Jackson for the next 12 months.
  10. Rose is a 1 and done, so no way he wants to deal with Gordon being on his team too, won't be able to showcase himself as much. With that said, if he doesn't go to Memphis, I'd be just.....even by recruiting standards, I'd be shocked. This might just be a courtesy visit, but signing day is imminent, so we'll find out soon enough.
  11. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 07:40 AM) derrick rose reconsidering illinois, will attend o and b scrimmage. No way in hell that happens, however that's bizarre he's even showing up.
  12. As long as Charlie THROWS STRIKES.....he will be a huge asset out of that pen.
  13. It feels better now than it did at the time for me. Man was that a great day....
  14. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) I don't understand how a school that aspires to be Purdue is a serious option for a top recruit. Zook is good, at least at recruiting.
  15. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) How's Benn going to help UI while hes playing for Weis? If he doesn't end up at UI, he'll be at Florida State. Tom Lemming dropped Benn in his latest ratings, which is a sure fire sign he's not going to ND.
  16. I really hope the B Mac bullpen experience last year teaches us not to follow the same path with Lance in 2007.
  17. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) 2 or 3 bowl games huh? hahaha Illinois is 4 or 5 plays from being 5-3 THIS year, so I'd say the Illini with Benn will be good enough to at least go 7-5 and make a bowl 2 or 3 times.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Q Trust me, as a big time ND fan there is no way I'd make claim to ND being better than Florida. I don't think Tenn is that good but thats cause I don't think Cal (or the Pac 10) are any good. OSU Mich Florida (depsite its loss) are my top 3 (even though WVU and USC are undefeated). USC is hurting now that they don't have a QB who worked with Chow and knew all of the intracacies of his system. To me, Clemson is easily the best 1 loss team in our fine country right now. But that's just my $0.02 QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Tennessee would rock your Irish senor Gage. Tennessee would score 40 on Notre Dame. The Irish secondary is slooooooooow, and the Vols might have the best WR corps in the country other than tOSU. I'd say Vols win.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) What's so untouchable about .252/.303/.454/.756, 22 HR, 62 RBI, 54 R in 438 AB? That's actually pretty mediocre especially the OBP which is atrocious. The 22 HR would be tough for him to reach but I don't see a .252 batting average and 62 RBIs as being something unatainable for Josh Fields' rookie year. +1
  20. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) I hope Benn enjoys losing if he goes to UI. He won't win any national titles at UI, but he'll start 4 years and make 2 or 3 bowl games, while having Juice throw him the ball for 3 years. Not bad.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) ND once again is a joke of a top 10 team. They're going to lose to USC, get their bcs game and get blown out again. Same crap as last year. That is correct. I'll enjoy them getting embarassed by USC and their BCS opponent though. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) The team impressing me lately.....Clemson. Oh Lord. C.J. Spiller and James Davis.....hide the children when those 2 come to town.
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) I don't see it.. BMac is already on the team, so there's no "+" next to his name. Losing Crede is a minus, offensively and defensively. ARod figures to be a downgrade defensively at short, negating some of the offense that you pick up, with the dropoff from Crede to Fields picking up the rest. The pitching staff is comprised of a bunch of guys who depend heavily on the defense behind them, weakening an entire side of the infield, when the other side isn't exactly strong to begin with, isn't a recipe to help the pitching staff, which, if you read the article, is the number 1 concern this offseason according to Guillien. Fields at the plate could, IMO, do in 2007 what Crede did in 2005 when we won it all, which is be mediocre. I think he'd be better than that, but that's just my opinion. And do you think Crede is better than A Rod? Or that Garcia is better than McCarthy?
  23. I know this guy is supposedly great and all that, but I have no interest in spending a total of 80 or 90 millon between posting fee and general deal for a guy that has never thrown a pitch over here. What if he's Kaz Matsui part 2?
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) It's either hate or recognizing Girardi for what he is. The 2nd one. Cubs fans should be overjoyed that they didn't get Girardi, best move they've made in ages. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) as an outsider to the Cubs fandom, I see Giradi as an inspired choice. Something little different. No one really gave the Marlins a chance, but he managed them to respectablity this year. One year fluke? maybe, but whats the Cubs got to lose With Pinella, I see a tired. uninspried, 'same ol same ol' choice. But again, what does the Cub franchise got to lose here. When things are down, you can take bets and when Lou will blow up on an umpire You could be right on Pinella, but don't kid yourself on Girardi. That myth that he pulled off a miracle last year is just that, a myth. The level of young talent that Marlins team had was incredible, their GM did an incredibly job turning a fire sale into an immediate positive. Girardi's in game managing disasters and general doucehbaggery in the clubhouse and even towards his manager might very well be the reason they didn't survive to October.
  25. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Hey chimpy where did you get that thing about Benn? JW because i've been wanting the Illini to get him so bad and that is great news Still a long way to go with Benn. Illinois has taken the lead on ND, but now FSU is in the picture. At earliest, that thing will get settled at the Army AA game in San Antonio in January.
