Base hit, Melky is the tying run at the plate.
-
GAS!!

Javy comes out and blows away Posada on 4 pitches to start the 5th. Go figure. Mark Teahen had an RBI double and scored the tying run during that rally in the 8th KC had to beat Boston. Good to know we aren't the only team he batters into submission.

It's a good thing we don't have a 1 o'clock game tomorrow, else the players would have half an hour in between games, double header style.

I think Jim killed all the grass on the right side of the infield these last couple at bats. Poop.

HEY THIS IS JI JIM THOME THE PEORIA POUNDER!!! *hopes that works*

I think we should bring back Lyle Mouton to help our OF problems personally.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Remote. Get it? I do, and that commercial sucks. But that reference was pretty funny.

Javy's line so far tonight: 4 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs, 6 walks, 6 k's, 94 pitches.

HE GONE!! Wow!

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260609104 That Cleveland game earlier in the year. We actually fell behind 4-2 in that game on the 3 run homer by Hafner, but ended up coming back and winning on a homer and then 2 run single by Dye. Javy went 5.2 innings, gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 9 k's, threw 110 pitches. And Cleveland left 14 men on base, but as individual totals, they left a total of 29 (I don't know if I've ever seen a number that high).
-
This is getting to the point where it's almost as ridiculous as that start he had at home against Cleveland earlier this year. We won that game, but I think Javy threw 110 pitches in like 5 innings and Cleveland left 15 men on base or something.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) I actually think that besides Web Gems in franchise history, it would be funny to see the Worst Web Gems in franchise history. I'd love to see Alex Gonzalez, Brant Brown, and Leon Durham battle it out for the Cubs. You'd have to have that play Aramis Ramirez botched earlier this year on that list somehow, I mean the ball freaking hit the button on the top of his cap. Since it's the Cubs, maybe they could make the botched plays list like a top 100 or something.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) Actually, the worst swing in history was by Nick Green of the Yankees about two weeks ago at Toronto. I don't know if people saw it, but he literally swung after the catcher had the ball. A.J.'s swing against Rivera last night might be in my top 3.

I have a hard time going against Coop after he came out to the mound in Minnesota and Buehrle threw that triple play on the next pitch. It takes a revolutionary thinker to go out there, tell your pitcher to throw a triple play ball, and see it get done on the 1st pitch. Way to whiff Jeter, Javy. Nice pitch.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) Actually most men have 2 of them. I think by "it", he meant a penis. Now if you have 2 of those, you should call Ripley's Believe it or Not.

Damon pops out to 3rd on one of the worst swings in the history of baseball.
-
The thing that pisses me off is with the way they are playing in the field, if Cintron puts the ball in play, it probably would have been thrown into the stands or something anyways to help us out.
-
Nice inning for Boone.....did Young react well to that strikeout though? Him and his brother aren't very nice.
-
Well that sucks. Although, I just thought of the idea for a Boone Logan, Mike Ditka, Chuck Norris every man for himself wrestling match inside a cage. That would be pretty nifty.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) Fidel's brother, however, is a huge fan. This has been the biggest change in Cuba since Fidel's surgery. Indeed, the fact that Fidel's brother is a Boone Logan fan is the reason that his totalitarian dicatorship will not work. Boone Logan is no friend of totalitarian dictators.
-
I also want to be in the Boone Logan fan club. I think everybody is a fan of Boone Logan except Fidel.

A Rod with the harmless pop out. *all of New York boos*

Very complimentary story about NIU class of 2006 WR Sam Hurd on the Sporting News Website via the AP http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=116126 " Great to hear, especially with the Cowboys, as Hurd is from San Antonio and grew up a big fan of theirs. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Let me rephrase this, a .316 career average is great. In fact, I can't think of any current Sox player who has a career average near that. It's even higher than Frank's average and he's considered one of the best hitters of the 90's. Also I'm hearing a lot about how bad his defense is, but what stats back that up? Whenever I've watched him he's always made the plays when he's needed to. Teams don't win 4 world titles with mediocre defense at shortstop. He's easily a hall of famer even if he retired today. I dunno about today, but he's going to finish with over 3,000 hits, 4 rings plus as a starter, and an over .300 average, so he's a HOF lock without question. However, he is still a BAD defender. He's the SS version of Tood Walker.....he makes few errors and easy plays so people love him, but really it's a product of having zero range whatsoever, making a lot of balls that anybody else can get to into base hits. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) 5th best? How do you figure? In fact I would make an argument that if we had a guy like him at the top of our lineup who can steal a base when he needs to and hit for a higher average than anyone else on our roster (.346) would be pretty damn valuable. I mean are you basing this all on HRs and RBI because I believe his average and runs scored (sans Thome) would be just as good if not better than anyone on our roster. His OBP would also rank first, by the way. Well Crede this year I'm taking over Jeter, despite the fact his OBP still is pretty bad. And Thome (and his 1.050 plus OPS and 34 homers), Konerko (who is a solid defender and rakes, and Dye (ditto), have all been better. Now this year is the only year in Sox history he'd be our 5th best player probably, but I'm trying to make an argument .
