  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Of course. Derek Jeter is far and away the one player that cares most about what he looks like when he is on the field. Hence, he walks like he has a stick up his ass. And yet Yankee fans hate A-Rod because they think he cares too much about his image. Oh, the irony, and oh how amazingly dumb Yankee fans are. They are lucky Cubs fans exist, or they'd have the "worst fans in sports" title on lockdown. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) The only reason that Jeter catch is so popular is because how that game went. If you remember, that was an epic extra inning game which featured Nomar sitting on the bench the whole game. If anything, it was more of a symbolic catch of how great of a leader Jeter is, and how far Nomar had fallen with the Red Sox. Epic games don't occur on the first day of July, and the fact that Jeter made a catch look harder than it was doesn't make him some great leader. Nomar not being in the dugout during the 11th was pretty lame though.
  2. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) damn, look at clarett's passenger seat. that's some serious weaponry. Grey Goose?? Damn, trying to drink that whole bottle might have been more of a health risk to him than those guns.
  3. The best part of that Jeter catch is he took 3 steps after he had the ball (in fair ground) before being in the stands. I still think he could have stopped or almost stopped, but kept going to make it look good.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Technically whether you throw 86 or 100 it really doesn't matter that much, its all about the mechanics. Some guys throw 99 and look like Matt Thornton, other guys barely touch 90 and look like they are trying to throw 110. Mechanics, body type, tons of things come into play so I'm not big on saying just cause you throw hard your more likely to get injured. In fact, I bet if someone looked up the numbers of injuries, you'd find out that 90 MPH FB pitchers get hurt just as often as a guy that throws 98. That is true, but it just seems to me like starters especially that throw above 95 seem to have poor mechanics in order to throw that hard, leading to the injuries. A guy like Thornton is incredible, he can throw 98 to 100 and not even appear to care though. My point is I guess, in short, Broadway is going to be very good as is McCarthy. Hell, they are better than our starters right now probably.
  5. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) I can't begin to speculate which chemicals are involved, but if these people are truly determined to kill others and are willing to die for their cause, why not injest the material? Think of a situation closely resembling that featured within "Maria Full of Grace." Or wear clothing items which allow pockets where liquid items may be stored? I'm not saying anything new here, really. It's just tough to imagine complete security from persons transporting undectable (aside from trained dogs) liquids. Great post. I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the specifics of this story, I mean with chemicals/liquid involved here, it's like you said, they could swallow stuff or put it in their pockets or something crazy since they are going to die anyways. It's almost like you can't really defend against this kind of attack on a plane. Terrifying thought.
  6. Javy, just stick with fastball, changeup, slider (in that order) and do your thing like last start.
  7. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) The lack of depth at WR concerns me, but they are the best team in the MAC hands down. Lost several linemen and wide receivers, but that shouldn't be an issue. NIU has by far recruited the best in the MAC at those 2 spots the last 3 or 4 years, and have a ton of talent. The O line has it's 2 best guys back in Doug Free and Jon Brost, and the thing people forget is NIU's preseason #2 and #3 WR's both were out last year (Marcus Perez redshirted due to academic problems, Matt Simon redshirted after breaking his leg during practices in August), and even that turned out to be a blessing in disguise with the emergence of Britt Davis. This years team is the most talented NIU has ever had, and it's honestly not even all that close. The only real weakness (as long as Wolfe stays healthy) is the interior defensive line. If we can find some guys to clog the middle on defense at the tackle spots.....I think we could realistically win every game other than the Iowa and tOSU games (the schedule is favorable too).
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) Ummm, one of the best curve balls in the minors (arguably the best in the southern league) mixed in with a major league caliber changeup (still developing) and a darn solid FB (I don't get where you guys say he doesn't have one, he easily throws a major league average fastball, velocity wise). I seriously laugh at everyone that thinks he throws everything but the kitchen sink at guys. Sure Lance is going to have a great curveball and a very good changeup to go with his low 90's fastball that he can locate, but he sucks. I want guys that throw 100, they look cool and always stay healthy of course. I mean, after all, throwing 100 doesn't put stress on your arm, shoulder, or elbow.
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) Man is this team going to be good. I just hope we don't lose by 50 large at Ohio State.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) If Derek Jeter made that diving catch into the stands like Uribe did, there would have been a Gatorade commercial revolving around the play already. Indeed, I think Jayson Stark of ESPN said in his column after the game that "If Jeter makes the 2 plays back to back that Uribe did to clinch the title, they'd make a full motion picture about it".
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Baez is awful, but being awful still makes him the 2nd best pitcher in that Braves bullpen. If they were going to have any shot this year, they needed bullpen help, so I think they were willing to tolerate whatever they could get. And IIRC, Baez is gone at the end of this season anyway, and might net them a draft pick or two if they offer arbitration. And we all know, sometimes an attitude problem disappears the moment you put a kid in the right spot. Bobby Jenks and AJ Pierzynski say hi. You bring up good points, but first of all, even in that sorry ass NL, the Braves aren't going to the playoffs. I guess they like the 1st round pick or two they'll get for Baez and Aybar better than Betemit, but I have no idea why. Even if his attitude is better, I think think Betemit is a better player than Aybar. And Aybar isn't a career .305 hitting defensive plus catcher and doesn't throw 100, btw .
  12. I forget who it was, but somebody (I think for us, an infielder) actually made a decent defensive play as the kid fell, despite looking freaked out after seeing the kid jump before finishing off the play.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Rowands display out in CF against the Yanks in one inning was more impressive than any of those 3 plays, imo. Guchi's play was great, but total luck. Uribe's best play was actually the one to win the game (that was absolutely insane, no other SS throws him out) although I'd admit Uribe into the stands was ridiculously awesome two. Those two plays should be combined like Rowand's two plays and are by far the two greatest plays I've seen in White Sox history. With all due respect to Rowand, he's never made a play (including the facebreaker this year) as good as either of Uribe's 9th inning plays. Those were 2 of the best plays I've ever seen, and for them to be back to back to end the World Series clinching game is why I have a hard time ever ripping on Juan. As for Rowand's display at Yankee Stadium...the only catch he made during that display that I would even put in his top 5 as a White Sox is the catch on Jeter (which I would have #2 behind the Sexson play I mentioned before, and both were GREAT plays). Uribe's plays and the 2 for 1 play by Fisk have to be in the top 3 IMO, than the 3rd play could be up for debate. I'd pick Gooch's simply because it's the best play I've ever seen a Sox defender who wasn't at SS or CF make, and of course the falling down thing.
  14. Give me a break Haugh!! I was watching the damn game, it was a COMPLETELY sarcastic "Bronx Cheer" by the annoyed crowd. Please learn the art of interpretation David.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Braves management has been raving that they can't believe the Dodgers made that trade. They said Aybar is better, quicker, younger, etc and they even got Baez in the deal as well. Betemit is a legit everyday major league 3B with some pop in his bat, whereas Aybar is an unproven attitude problem...and I'm sorry, but Baez is AWFUL. I just think the Dodgers got a great deal there.
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Thank you Kansas City. My buddy is a casual gambler on baseball, and I told him to bet on KC the last 2 nights because of great odds and Boston's play.....dude won 1,500 dollars.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) aah, but take it from a married guy, a lot more poon comes your way once you slide that wedding band on your finger. Women know that a married man goes away, boyfriends stick around and get nuts or become a pain in ass. A lot of women are just screwed up that way. Well that's obviously true. As a whole, our gender does suck as women always say, however women are just as bad. And everything you say is accurate. And as for hot underage women.....it's getting to the point where if your going to hit a home run with your lady, you are tempted to ask for I.D. just in case. It's ridiculous how old young girls look these days.
  18. Konerko and Dye each would be the best clutch hitter on about 25 teams in baseball.....but Crede is our best, by far. I still think he's a better clutch hitter than Ortiz, seeing as Ortiz is ALWAYS insanely good, whereas Crede goes from very good to unstoppable when it's clutch time, but that's a different argument .
  19. His speed was overrated coming in last year, and everything else about him was WAY underrated. He's a great player to have on your team, amazing that we were the only ones after him (and signed him after only seeing a freaking tape of the guy).
  20. The Fisk 2 for 1 play at the plate in New York, Uribe's catch in the stands, and Gooch's play this year have to be the top 3. I'd guess: 3. Gooch 2. Fisk 1. Uribe The best play I ever saw Rowand make for us was the catch he made last year crashing into the wall to save the game against Seattle. Sexson CRUSHED the thing (it was in the 8th) and it would have tied it if it dropped or gave Seattle the lead if it left. Rowand got a GREAT jump on the ball and made the catch as he ran into the wall at full speed. That may be the best play I've seen an OF make for us, either that or a play Kenny Lofton made at a FREEZING April game against Detroit in I believe 2001 when he robbed a guy of a homer.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) On 4/22 Jim Thome took Johan Santana deep in the bottom of the 6th inning with the team down 2-1, it put them up 3-2 which turned out to be the final score. For the record (since I was at the game), the game was actually scoreless in the 6th on April 21st when Thome hit a 2 run blast off Johan in the bottom of the 6th to put us up 2-0. Buehrle gave up a homer to Lew Ford in the 7th to make it 2-1, and the Sox won 7-1 when Johan came out after 7 and the Twins bullpen collapsed and gave up 5 runs. That was still a clutch homer though, both pitchers were unhittable that night and that homer turned out to have been enough to win the game.
  22. Kudos to England and the U.S. for foiling this plot, 10 planes at once?? Ugh....although it's impossible to stop every attack, you just hope you can stop the big ones like this.
  23. I'm going to stay out of any depth in this thread, since I over react, everything is fine, and Detroit is going to collapse because they can't be on fire forever. Ozzie is a great manager too, after all, we won it all LAST year!!
  24. QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) Our society needs to rethink this whole "cheating is bad" stigma. There's too many hot b****es around, it's too much fun, and not taking advantage of an opportunity can leave lasting regrets. Well that's pretty simple, don't get married or in a serious relationship...and enjoy the poon!
  25. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) IU got its first verbal for '07. It'll take a bit to become a respectable group, since Purdue cleaned house. However, it's a start. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...022/1004/SPORTS He's a real good player, one of the fastest rising prospects in the class. It's a great start, but IU is going to have to waste a scholly or two on a JuCo if they plan on using 5 in this class. They should just take 3 or 4 players and bank the others one for next year when Sampson has more of a chance with the recruits.
