QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) f***.Yes. What really pisses me off is the people who will sneek in a smoke in the stands. Don't you love when the people sitting behind you blow smoke in your face! No, I tell them I'll get them thrown out if they don't quit being f***ing gross and smoking in my face. And I'll be the guy making sure they "enforce it". *Sighs* why do smokers gotta be so bitter, you still have designated ramps to slowly kill yourself.

Greatest College Basketball Team Ever?
whitesoxfan101 replied to ZoomSlowik's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah I obviously didn't see 1982 UNC either. But that Kentucky team was so good and deep and experienced and could play any style.....I can't see anybody beating them in a big time game. In terms of future NBA studs, UNC wins of course....but I take 1996 Kentucky over 1982 UNC strictly in terms of those individual teams. They are both top 5 teams of all time though in all likelihood. -
I honestly would respect Self about tenfold more if he'd admit that "mop" of his is actually a toupee. Come on man, it's so obvious....quit hiding it.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) You guys are gonna be scary good next year. Until they play a mid major in the 1st round and lose again.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) I really believe Noah is going to stay so all they're going to have to worry about imo is Hortford. If they both stay, Florida is preseason top 5 no doubt. I would be shocked if they both stay, and wouldn't be too surprised if both left. This draft is so weak so anybody that did anything in this tournament is a risk to leave.
-
Yeah some of these other teams such as Florida and Texas depend on who stays and who doesn't. Kansas will be in the top 5 just because they have everybody coming back and more talent coming in, but we'll see what Self does with it.

Greatest College Basketball Team Ever?

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) The team had 3 NBA players that scored over 18,000 points in their career, combined with a distributing PG in Black and a perfect role player in Doherty. There wasn't much of a bench, but back in those days there really didn't need to be, especially with the 4 corners being run. UNC only scored 67 ppg, but their defense only allowed 55 ppg. They had a dominant SG defender in Jordan, a good defender at SF in Worthy, and a dominant post defender in Sam Perkins. Put them against 1996 Kentucky without the four corners/no shot clock/no 3 point line nonsense and they would be in a whole mess of trouble. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) So who's the pre-season #1? I know it's too early, but predictions are so fun. UNC and tOSu will be your top 2, not sure in which order yet though. After that it gets interesting, but there is going to be a lot of very young and very good teams though.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) So what's the latest on Aldridge anyway? It seems as if he really isn't sure if he wants to stay at Texas or enter the draft. If he has a brain, he goes pro. Top 3 lock, his stock will never get any higher, and in fact will get lower if he comes out next year or stays all 4 years considering how much better those classes will be. I'd be beyond shocked if he doesn't come out.

I would pick 1996 Kentucky. They kicked ass during a time where college basketball was REALLY good, they had over a half dozen NBA players, only lost 2 games all year playing in a tough SEC, played in integrated times and times where it wasn't just UCLA's NBA team beating inferior competition.....they are my pick. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) He's definitely got a chance but man..college basketball is going to be so up next year compared to this year in terms of the talent level. Yep. 2005 was a damn good year, this year was a transition year overall (SEE: Final Four teams) but next year the sport will be back with a vengeance.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) Durant is NICE. Texas is gonna be scary good next year if Aldridge passes on the draft. Which he won't since he's a top 3 lock , but they are still going to be really good anyways. Oh, and Budinger is just ridiculous. Can't wait to see him next year. Saw nothing out of Scheyer to convince me out of thinking he will be a bench player at Duke, but then again it was just an all star game so it's not like that would change my mind anyways. I don't want to even talk about Oden.....I just hope next year goes by fast.
-
I think there is a very real chance Oden is going to Carmeloize Ohio State next year (and yes Oden has a lot of help too, but so did Carmelo with Duany, Warrick, McNamara, etc).
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) Uh, one of the last things they need is more guards. They need to find some competent bigs. You are correct, and they aren't adressing that problem in recruiting at all, which is a huge problem. However that group of guards will be one of the best in the nation, and that alone should keep them afloat to win a lot of games. This years Marquette team had nothing inside either and still did pretty well after all (all Novak was was a 6'10 guard basically, he couldn't defend at all and never went inside).
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:17 PM) Just finished watching the game. Let me just say this: Greg Oden could START for half the teams in the NBA. No, that is not an exaggeration. I've already conceeded the Big Ten regular season/tournament title to OSU. Next year is an Illini transition year anyways, so meh. Oden will be gone after next season anyways. I've been saying since Oden's JUNIOR year that he could start for at least 3/5 of NBA teams, but people think that's crazy talk. Dude is the best HS Center since Lew Alcindor. You are correct sir, that is apparently a huge factor.

2 pieces of recruiting news. MAC Freshmen of the year Maurice Acker (5'8 point guard) will transfer to Marquette following the firing of Ball State's head coach. He will redshirt as a transfer next year and have 3 years of eligibility at Marquette starting in 2007-2008. That backcourt of Dominic James, Jerel McNeal, Wes Matthews, and now Maurice Acker (and Scott Christopherson, a top 100 national recruit from Wisconsin at guard coming in the class of 2007)....yikes. Also, SIU added a verbal in class of 2006 combo guard Tyrone Green of Southeastern Illinois CC. He is a pretty big guard at 6'3, 205 who is very athletic, a good defender, and can create his own shot according to scouting reports. Sounds like a solid fit for SIU, and will fit in perfectly in this SIU class going along with 6 foot sharp shooter Joshua Bone of Nashville.

Majerus to become headcoach of ASU?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Rowand44's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Floyd was a better hire than Sampson. Call me crazy, but Floyd coached and suceeded at every stop of the way including a non powerhouse like ISU. He is now at USC and so far has done an oustanding job recruiting and he's a very good collegiate X's and O's guy. To make things better USC finally got there own arena on campus (opened up late this past season). I expect them to become a power in the Pac 10 (along with UCLA, Washington and Arizona). Agreed on all counts. -
Hansbrough cost himself a lot of money doing this, and same could be said for McRoberts if he stays in school. This draft class blows, while future ones look WAY WAY better.....should cash in now.

Majerus to become headcoach of ASU?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Rowand44's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) USC got stuck with Tim Floyd when that happened. He also has put together a damn good recruiting class this year and is off to a great start for the class of 2007. Floyd sucked in the NBA, but he's a proven good coach at the collegiate level. I wouldn't say ending up with Floyd rather than big boy Majerus is "settling". -
QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) Is it going to be televised on a national channel? Starts in moments on ESPNEWS, for anybody that wants to watch.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) The experts say Collins will get in, I have seen stranger things. The experts are going gaga over him, i mean hes 5"11 and close to 200. I cannot wait for him to join Chalmers, Rush and Robinson in the backcourt. Collins reminds me a lot of Will Bynum, thick undersized explosive guard out of the public league with a world of potential but a lousy HS coach. If Bail and his staff can coach this kid up, he will end up in the NBA. Watch out for G-Tech again next year, Crittendon and Young are both freaks of nature.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I think it's interesting that Huggins is in such good position with so many top players all of the sudden. He was never that good a high school recruiter at Cinci. Most of his major additions were from the JuCo ranks, and his most highly touted recruit was probably James White, a transfer. He had no recruiting restrictions on him from the time Cincy canned him until K-State hired him. God only knows what he was doing during that time.

The white Karl Malone. Wonder if this is the only one out there. -
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:54 AM) So far what I have read the most impressive have been Kevin Durant, Oden, Darrel Arthur, Ellington, Cook and Budinger(the Napoleon Dynomite knockoff). Jerry Meyer is gushing over my boy Sherron, calling him the most impressive guard. He is also kind of ripping apart Scheyer, calling him a "system player", who is more cerebral than athletic. Scheyer at Duke isn't going to be anything special, a "system player" is a perfect way to describe him, and he has nowhere near as good a shot as Redick. As for Collins, he'll be a hell of a player, but it's 50/50 right now if he will even qualify (although it's Kansas, so he will). Oden of course is the most dominant player and Budinger will fit in perfectly at Arizona, although he's so odd because a goofy looking 6'7 white guy SHOULD NOT be that athletic.
