  1. I think it's a combination of recent school pedigree and name recognition propping him up. I can't explain it any other way.
  2. Re: Madrigal, using the grades from Fangraphs and the scale Kiley put out explaining grades, they're basically saying they think he'll be a .300ish hitter with an .800-.850 OPS, 20-20 potential, and gold glove caliber defense at 2B, which could be above average or plus at SS and 3B as well. That sounds like a 5 WAR player to me.
  3. What? I could see the upside of Bohm or Madrigal as 5 WAR players, maybe even better.
  4. The first three college guys you mentioned have some decent upside.
  5. That's actually scientific. Read here, here, and here if you're interested in learning about it.
  6. The population at large is quick to jump to conclusions and speak in absolutes.
  7. Well anecdotal evidence clearly Trumps scientific evidence. One person ever had an issue with sexual behavior after a guilty plea under entirely different circumstances, so no player ever could have an issue like Heimlich's and be an okay human being and good baseball player. Glad that got cleared up. In other news, I really wish I knew how to change font color on the new board.
  8. His draft history thus far is encouraging for the likelihood (specifically lack thereof) of him drafting Singer.
  9. I can agree to disagree on picking Heimlich, but I'm going to go with the attorney's assessment of his guilt or innocence and I happen to know that our legal system is designed to screw innocent people into plea deals. I don't think something so easily disputed should be taken as fact.
  10. Do you have any evidence he actually committed the act? Pleading guilty in a court of law and committing a crime are two vastly different things.
  11. Do you have any evidence that he's guilty? I mean, I'd start there, but that's me.
  12. Expecting it would be, that's why it's called upside, not expected outcome.
  13. UPSIDE. Good = explainable in this case. Sexually abused minors often perpetuate the cycle of abuse if not treated appropriately. Further, the recidivism rate for minors who receive treatment at the age he did is less than 5%. Even if he did it, which is disputable, he was treated at the right time and is highly unlikely to ever have an issue again.
  14. You did realize that if you can't make bail, you sit in jail until your trial, right? Further, Soxbadger said there was some sort of custodial issue with the parents that the plea deal helped. That's likely why his lawyer suggested taking the deal.
  15. I said "meathead reasons", which calling someone a child molester and saying you don't want them drafted because of that when there's a good chance they're innocent and even if they're not, there's a good chance of there being a good reason why it happened and will never happen again qualifies as a meathead reason to me.
  16. Yes, they do, for a variety of reasons. Mainly so that they can get out of jail.
  17. Please find his criminal record.
  18. Innocent people take plea deals to expedite the processing of the legal system all the time in America.
  19. Surprising, you aren't usually one to ignore value for meathead reasons.
  20. And that's why I didn't even bother to argue that point. I still think the value is too good to pass up.
  21. The only reason anyone knows is because he forgot to register where he was and it caused a violation, which became public record, but also which he fixed. Besides, do you really expect him to come out and talk about this on his own, especially seeing the way people have reacted to finding out? He likely wanted it in the past where it belongs.
  22. I think most organizations will pass on him because they're worried about fan backlash. And I think that's overblown. I also have three children. Like you said, he's no threat to my kids, so why would I care? Also, his OSU teammates don't seem to be ostracizing him or having problems with him, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to think he can get along in a clubhouse.
  23. Which would come back clean. His record has been expunged and sealed because the crime was committed when he was a minor.
  24. What would prevent him? Maybe the teacher's license, but in states like Indiana, you don't even need one of those anymore.
  25. It's no bigger of a leap than assuming he's a sexual predator. I honestly think that people are blowing the perceived fan reaction thing out of proportion. There may be an initial backlash, and some people who decide to root against him "on principle", but ultimately most fans root for laundry. The talent is too good to pass on to me, especially if he's sitting there after the first ten rounds. It's going to be hard at that point to find anything more valuable than a LHSP that has #2/#3 upside.
