  1. No one get too mad about this. If you want the team to spend more, fine - but as far as low risk high reward, i think every successful team needs a few of those to pan out. and this is one.
  2. OH AWESOME there are fat jokes all over the place in this thread. Yes! ! !
  3. Something, maybe not this, is happening soon for Sox. I dont see them going young at ALL those positions.
  4. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Juan doesn't get cheated at the plate, neither home or dinner. this is some post, this line in particular i like most
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) 2009: 1. Gordon Beckham, ss 2. Dayan Viciedo, 3b 3. Aaron Poreda, lhp 4. Tyler Flowers, c 5. Clayton Richard, lhp 6. Brandon Allen, 1b 7. Jordan Danks, of 8. Brent Lillibridge, ss 9. Chris Getz, 2b/ss/of 10. John Shelby, of Sure would be nice if all these guys would work out, and then we can just use FA dollars on pitching. EDIT: Man, even if that worked out we'd still need a leadoff hitter and/or cf.
  6. Even though they're not really directly comparable as players, this contract makes me wonder if Orlando Hudson's price is going to drop significantly. Even though i know he is not to be discussed anymore.
  7. Was an usher there when i was a kid. If only it was 05 and not 98. i cant be of much help though, i got it through somebody.
  8. Of course above all that, I think the Orioles blew it and now cant get great offers for Roberts. So you have to let that play out if you can.
  9. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) 1. Roberts 2b 2. Becks SS 3. TCQ RF 4. Thome DH 5. Kong 1b 6. Abreu LF 7. Lexi CF 8. AJP C 9. Fields 3b Real nice to me. Even if it's Dye instead of Abreu. I think you do that and then hope a pitcher or two steps up. That's how weak the division is. Pitcher performances are volatile but once you have top of the order all set, you eliminate a lot of net team-volatility.
  10. Also i guess i cant change thread title, but if someone wants to change it to Sportscenter 5pm CST Sox report then maybe it'll be of use as is, it's pretty useless since i didnt realize it wasnt ESPNEWS. or NNEWS orwhatever.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) You should check out the mlb network if you have it...I heard they covered the AL Central tonight... Ooh got it. You mean the program entitled "Hot Stove" ?
  12. Hudson was the guy I wanted this offseason, but I guess if yr gonna make an expenditure next offseason... do it for the right name at the right position. Which means sure fire cf/leadoff and he should be in cohort with the guys in their prime ages. Others got to this realization already but I'm just now there.
  13. For our "hot stove report" they should play a recorded chorus of cricket sounds.
  14. They just said it's "On Deck".... does that mean they're going to do it tonight on ESPN NEWS? or does it mean tomorrow on Baseball Tonight or something
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) I'm off for a while, but here's what I can tell you: I think Roberts would sign an extension if there is a tentative deal in place. The Sox would have 48 hours to strike a deal under this scenario. No surprise that Baltimore finally has warmed to the idea of moving him, this could have happened sooner had talks with Vazquez and Atlanta fallen apart. I still think Dye will be moved, although the glut of corner outfielders on the market limits KW's options. With one year left on Thome's deal and two on Konerko's contract, it's possible Viciedo could be a DH if he's limited on defense. But I'm hearing he's got a solid arm. response back from Trib's M. Gonzales on the deal....hope this helps what was it that you sent him? did you ask about a specific scenario (as in... "if this and this is happening, then ___ " Or is he just openly hinting that it has legs?
  16. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Sorry Princess, but the pitching situation would be much worse w/o Gavin. No way we make this trade unless other pitching comes from the O's or elsewhere in another deal. It would be worse, but I guess we disagree on how replaceable Floyd's talents are. As currently comprised, we have neither lineup nor rotation that's ready for a World Series win. Make this move, and your lineup has solidified greatly. And you then have to replace a groundball pitcher with a 1.26 WHIP. So I disagree that we need something else coming back from Baltimore, because that something else can be found elsewhere. My point is we're brought closer with this move than without it.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Yes it is, I still havent seen an instance of when he took one of his young starters from his rotation to trade for a 2B when he has a glut at the position. No one would lose any sleep at all over those 2Bs going to the minors. And Beckham's true position and start date are still unknown. He might not even be with this organization in a year. You know KW.
  18. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I REALLY want Brian Roberts on this team... BADLY. But the Sox CANNOT trade Gavin, at least not for a non-pitcher. i know it's tough for all to get past the pitcherness of Floyd but dont you trade a non-special player for a special one? Roberts' age comes into play, but he's not that old either. i mean, either someone wants him or they dont..and if yr like that, then it means you never wanted Furcal or Hudson either. Roberts still fits in with the core we have... which is Alexei and CQ, guys about to enter the prime years. Pitching would remain the problem that it currently is. Either way we need to acquire SP and count on youngsters steppin up
  19. Man. Roberts is such a monster though. Gavin $-wise makes us all want him around awhile, but really how irreplaceable are those skills? We can get middle rotation starters. True leadoff guys though arent around
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Posts like this drive me batty. How could you POSSIBLY know this? Know what market was out there for him? And if it could have been more, why on earth would they have not done that? It makes absolutely no sense. I could understand saying that the return is not enough, so you keep him. But to say they could have done better is ridiculous. You kind of missed the point of my post in totality. Vazquez value was not at all aided by Guillen's slamming him in the media at the very end of the regular season. Maybe we got fair value for Javy but I would absolutely like to have known what he'd net without the Guillen comments. That's all that's being said here. If you have GM/Mgr synchronicity---if they are at all working together---- then you wont use the press to potentially tank the value of guys you are 2 months away from putting on the trade market. You have to admit that Guillen saying "he's not a big game pitcher" followed by him losing the following starts makes him look like a dud on the market. It sure doesnt help.
  21. I'm not hating the return for Vaz but it couldve been more This is what we get Oz when we run our mouth and decrease the value of our own assets in the media. You tried to pump up Javy and it backfired now in two ways. With Vaz we should have let him get to the offseason and try to trade him on the laurels of his stats alone.
  22. Uribe even seemed a little more walk prone last year too Not that i have the stats handy to back it up
  23. whoops didnt think that other thread was about this
