QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Yes it is, I still havent seen an instance of when he took one of his young starters from his rotation to trade for a 2B when he has a glut at the position. No one would lose any sleep at all over those 2Bs going to the minors. And Beckham's true position and start date are still unknown. He might not even be with this organization in a year. You know KW.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
Princess Dye replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I REALLY want Brian Roberts on this team... BADLY. But the Sox CANNOT trade Gavin, at least not for a non-pitcher. i know it's tough for all to get past the pitcherness of Floyd but dont you trade a non-special player for a special one? Roberts' age comes into play, but he's not that old either. i mean, either someone wants him or they dont..and if yr like that, then it means you never wanted Furcal or Hudson either. Roberts still fits in with the core we have... which is Alexei and CQ, guys about to enter the prime years. Pitching would remain the problem that it currently is. Either way we need to acquire SP and count on youngsters steppin up -
Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed

Man. Roberts is such a monster though. Gavin $-wise makes us all want him around awhile, but really how irreplaceable are those skills? We can get middle rotation starters. True leadoff guys though arent around -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Posts like this drive me batty. How could you POSSIBLY know this? Know what market was out there for him? And if it could have been more, why on earth would they have not done that? It makes absolutely no sense. I could understand saying that the return is not enough, so you keep him. But to say they could have done better is ridiculous. You kind of missed the point of my post in totality. Vazquez value was not at all aided by Guillen's slamming him in the media at the very end of the regular season. Maybe we got fair value for Javy but I would absolutely like to have known what he'd net without the Guillen comments. That's all that's being said here. If you have GM/Mgr synchronicity---if they are at all working together---- then you wont use the press to potentially tank the value of guys you are 2 months away from putting on the trade market. You have to admit that Guillen saying "he's not a big game pitcher" followed by him losing the following starts makes him look like a dud on the market. It sure doesnt help.

I'm not hating the return for Vaz but it couldve been more This is what we get Oz when we run our mouth and decrease the value of our own assets in the media. You tried to pump up Javy and it backfired now in two ways. With Vaz we should have let him get to the offseason and try to trade him on the laurels of his stats alone.

Uribe even seemed a little more walk prone last year too Not that i have the stats handy to back it up

Obsessed with (the lack of) Sox off-season moves?

QUOTE (RoyHobbs @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) Why do you guys think Kenny didn't pull the trigger and get Willy Taveras to fill the lead off and center field void....can't argue with 68 stolen bags and a decent defensive center field either 1) he has something else great up his sleeve, but that he's waiting for everyone's market value to sink like a stone (ie hudson in cf idea) 2) they dont want to do a thing to payroll and the point here isnt that Taveras is great, but that we already know KW wanted him once -
Angels May Consider Trading For Dye or Paulie
Princess Dye replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) I've said getting Figgins right now would be foolish. His legs have been hindering him the past couple years and when those go his production is goign to be far less valuable. Heh...yeah Paul Konerko's legs have been hindering him the past couple years as well. So, good thing you said that second part. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) If KW unloaded Paulie, and I think that it won't happen, Swisher I am sure is available. With the way the market has dropped on players his level, his contract isn't the "bargain" it once was, even if he regains most of his Oakland form. KW probably could get him back for lower rated prospects than he acquired. the second trade is going to be difficult for NY to explain. pretty much a giveaway of people that they've irrationally hyped on their boards as we do ours. almost as controversial as the NBA draft night trade that brought Luol Deng to the Bulls in exchange for absolutely nothing. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 06:48 AM) Richard doesn't suck? An era over 6? A WHIP of 1.55? BAA of over .300? He's garbage. A typical White Sox farmhand. And we've got people saying he should've started game 1 of a playoff series because he pitched a couple of nice innings? To be fair to Richard, we really dont have enough of a sample size on him to dismiss. I would say the same to those who solely focus on his postseason success

What Happened to Pursuing Orlando Hudson?
Princess Dye replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I almost missed what you meant there. Duque's almost like Papi... i forget he actually has a name. -
White Sox named as a possibility for Garland
Princess Dye replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) He would not be a waste of money at 8 million at all. I think he is a league avg guy whose value is in how he fits in with his current team and his ability to give the team quality starts and eat innings. For a team that is trying to inject youth into their rotation, he is a great value. 8 million isnt a waste value wise, but it's probably pointless if we're willing at this point to let youth take on more responsibility at other positions. The way it's not a waste this year is if we go all out to contend in other areas as well. -

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/pgStory?conte...p;photo=8948490 Rosenthal says Hudson's price will drop and potentially could end up with the Sox. Not really citing inside info or anything though. At this link you have to scroll a few FA's up -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Oh well a good number of Soxtalk will have him traded for a really good Class A centerfielder. I think most people here advocating a Jenks trade were saying do it for a huge package. Because you're about to owe him a lot of money, and something he was real good at (K's) have been on the way down. It's not crazy to have that view. The team has needs in other places, and I'd trade Jenks to improve those. I have more faith in our ability to close games without him than I do for top-of-the-order concerns.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) Who cares...the guy is a prima donna...Im glad he's gone. I rooted for him, but I hated it...I like to root for players I ... ahh, LIKE. People invented this huge image of Cabrera as negative. Do you know so much about the other players personally that you can vouch for your opinions of them? again, as people.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) Which is probably why he's been overwhelmed with interest and multiple contract offers of $10 million plus over 2-3 years this offseason? Well you are making a completely different point than me. I fully agree he's not in that echelon of pay. I also feel he's a solid defensive player, unlike some people here.
-
Everyone who slams OC's fielding, I'll just be real interested to see how bad we still wanted him out of here ...if or when Alexei has struggles acclimating to the position at this level of play.
-
I dont know that I want to spend payroll on what's out there this offseason. The gigantic names aside, I'm really not tantalized by names like Garland, Pettitte. I want the young core of this team to grow around people who are just reaching their peak. I dont want to start the next mish mosh of over the hill plus youngsters. in '05, there was some uniformity on where people were in their careers. It helps. Lets be real good at some point. Lets not be just decent enough to win the AL Central (or if we're going to do that, lets keep doing it with youth movement at the forefront. it worked last yr). Basically i dont want to spend a ton to just be good enough to win the Central.

y'might have to bail him out though

The White Sox will go to Las Vegas - but will Brian Anderson be able to leave
