9/18 Sox vs. Bombers - 6:05 pm, WGN

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) Swisher, Quentin and Ramirez are all younger players. Maybe giving Anderson/Wise a chance....and Fields...could conceiveably occur. Of course, nobody likes that version of "youth movement," we only want MVP's and ROY candidates. I just want someone who can still catch up to it. In their best flashes, our older hitters can still punish the ball, but it's only in flashes these days. -

This offense is killing me right now. I want some youth injected into 09. Frighteningly, Hudson means "youth" to us. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) First, no doubt. Everyone says their pitching sucks, but their team ERA is like 4.32. Thats what gives me hope , at least as far as going into Minn. Yanks are way better than that team and we're at least hanging. and yea, imagine what OUR era would be facing that division constantly -

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) True. Though having a healthy Crede, Linebrink and Paulie wouldve made a big difference too. Everybody has injuries though. Just pissed it was our MVP. Lets not forget Contreras. And Nick Swisher's apparent brain injury. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) OC's average is up to .283 after a slow start and another slump this year. I wish we couldve gotten a real leadoff hitter and seen what he could really do offensively this year. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) clayton richard will be on the playoff roster, out of the bullpen, per ozzie just now the quote i heard on the radio was prefaced w/ "if the playoffs started tomorrow..." but i agree he has to be worked into that role as soon as he can pitch again and should stay there thru as far as we can take this thing. live arm. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) At this time in 2005, things were awful. Sox got hot with about 6 days left in the regular season, and rode the wave. I'm not comparing this team to the 2005 squad, but just a little perspective. Things can change very quickly. I'm with you on every point. We're not as good as that team, but if we get into a power surge, as we've been capable of doing at times this year, we can beat any team. Not saying probably but possible. And better than 06 Cards. -

finally now with the stakes up, Hawk gets a little critical of the players. Javy just then and yesterday, if he counts as a player, Mike Mac. -
Quentin really doing some BP upcoming in KC?

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) Just thought I would add a little to that statement. Before he resigned with the Score a year or two ago he was negotiating with WLS to join the Roe Cahn (sp?) show. It could have ultimately boiled down to money, but IMO part of it was he wouldn't have been able to act like the smartest man in the room and bully callers like he does now. I pretty much agree w/ everything you said, regarding Bernstein's smugness Still that's the enjoyable part. you don't get that amount of smugness per square inch anywhere else on earth. After the incident w/ Antonio Davis' wife at the UC, he interviewed her and asked her what kind of example she was setting for her own children. -
Where is Adam Russell? I mean if we're doing late year tryouts for RH relief lets get him an extended look. Scoreless outings against TB and BOS amidst some clunkers recently. Has a K-rate, if nothing else.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) debbie downer time tonight's game is how we're gonna look against tampa bay in the ALDS (imo) their pitching staff pretty much shuts down the longball, we're gonna have to play similarly to how we played in the game Floyd won, yesterday. string hits together, score with 2 outs, can't keep stranding leadoff doubles if we beat TB in the ALDS (assuming we get there of course), i think we'll be fine for the rest of the playoffs, at least until the world series i see TB as the most formidable team in the post-season i agree. the way they're set up they're the toughest road for us. i suppose we could hope their youth would even that out, but i doubt it. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) I say right now there is about a 40% chance he is with the Sox next season. under contract w/ them for next year, no? Also, amazing that Paulie has rebounded and kept himself off this list http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=3592846

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) MacDougal is a joke, a big, tall joke. If we don't win the division, please send all former KC Royals packing. Get rid of all of them PLEASE. I would tend to agree w/ you if not for the fact that he's looking more reliable than most the current pen. It's pathetic but I'd rather see if he can build on some of that minor league success than trot out Dotel right now, who has been on a steady downward slide. And Carrasco seems to be worse lately, and Liney of course not the same as before. It's difficult to search for answers and chase a division title but we have no choice right now. He has to get a shot to keep doing what he's doing. Kind of doing. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) Ozzie should have never brought MacDougal in with a guy on 3rd base. even with that pitch though, Mac seems less wild than before. On the Score today they were talking about how his head no longer flails about trying to hit 95, and he now throws lower 90s perhaps w/ more control. albeit a small sample size so far. busted Ivan in pretty nicely at least. i mean, today what he threw shouldve been caught by AJ. If it's not Mac's history of wildness, if it's thrown by someone else, we dont think of that particular pitch as being so abysmal. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) Can Vazzy beat Musina? Vazquez has seven strong starts coming in. In general though I'm really happy w/ our starting pitching right now. I like the thought of that staff turning things over to Thornton/Jenks in the playoffs, but we have to get there first.

It's crazy when you think how we're an 89 win team potentially..... and that 06 season we finished third with more wins... in a way better division that had the World Series entrant as a wild card, not even the division winner. also crazy how down we were on that team and how hopeful we are for this one. Nonetheless it's that we're living in the moment and i'll keep doing so. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) Yeah, me too. We're pretty much doing the expected every night. 2-2 in this series is about the best anybody with common sense would have hoped for us. 1-3 will be sad no matter what the Twinks do. If the Twins do wind up sweeping us at the s***dome and we don't win it, we certainly have nobody to blame but ourselves (and injuries if you want to go that route). The Twins have been so bad though. Their pen has been worse than ours, somehow. At least the back end of it. -
