QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) No need to push the panic button and bring CQ back. Until were only a .5 game up I'd keep him out of the lineup to let him rest for the playoffs. but then any fear that he's rusty/getting back into the groove on playoff time?

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) who has been gone for months? Are they bringing Contreras back? good call. typing too fast, pre-thinking although i will say extensive Mike Mac exposure makes time slow down.
-
To me the Twins series is too important to bring back a guy who's been gone months. It's a lot easier to say w/ Wise hitting for power lately... but honestly i think that's too much of an x-factor. Seal the deal in Minnesota for post season... THEN bring c.q. back versus Cleveland at the earliest. I wouldnt want him going in cold for the playoffs. How early would you bring him back (again, assuming he's cleared and injury status aside)

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) A win like this looks so good. Dotel and Linebrink pitched well . Swish looked good and so did Wise. If the injury to Quentin a has bright side its that Ozzie hopefully has learned that using Wise and Anderson for pinch hitting duties wouldn't be such a bad thing as the season winds down and the post season beckons. Even better is that we can potentially go with Wise in left and still make the playoffs. thereby giving Quentin every extra second to get healthy. Although I'd think if he's cleared he should play some regular season just to make sure he's not a total mess and out of sync. i dont see any way they could bring cq back earlier than cleveland, injury status completely aside.

Compared to what our bullpen has been offering lately, that inning was like watching Van Halen solo or something.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) If Jimmy hits #600 with the WSOX, does he go into the Hall as a White Sox? Real question is: Does Hall go into the Hall as a Sox.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) that song got annoying the moment it was conceived. After the first line "Where have all the good men gone?" I think our remix should indicate "Well one is around but has a fracture currently held in place by a pin and is hoping for a swift return." Could throw the song off though.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) The short answer is yes he does run the risk of re-fracturing it. A bone heals by building up a callus around the fracture and the healing begins to occur inside this callus. If the callus is injured the healing will stop and a new callus will need to be re-built. The problem is that with a partial callus there, there is a possibility that it will interfere with the new healing process and the fracture will become a non-union fracture. This is where the fracture doesn't and drastic steps need to be taken possibly even removing a part of the bone. This is not likely to happen especially with the screw in place to prevent movement. A direct blow to the bone still could do it. This re-injury scenario is unlikely but do you chance it with such a young player who could be a corner stone for years. I'm sure this is the question going through the minds of the White Sox decision makers. They have a good medical staff and I would trust them but it is a risk. very interesting. Yet the next question is ... were reinjury to occur (well returning to knightini's point) then doesnt he just have the whole offseason to get it better anyway? If so, then it's not a giant risk anyway Unless you mean the damage could be more permanent or serious with the refracture I guess what I'm asking is how serious (long term) is refracture? any more serious than what's going on w/ him presently? -

I think this would be viewed as a hard fought div title race and not so terminal if it werent for the cheery, annoying kookiness going on w/ the northside fans We're letting it infect our brains and our rational thinking. We're up. That means thumbs up, and the next three nights are tougher for them. -

And what's more, you're going to get real pissed at this team if you have insanely high expectations. We're looking to win a hard fought playoff race, go into the playoffs being the least talented team in the AL, and try to steal a few series to advance. That's where we're at - especially w/ CQ iffy. Any other expectation is too high and you're going to get enraged over a ton of stuff. Not saying dont be pissed about our current play, but also realize that the team has overachieved and will be the dogs in any series they're in anyway. And we havent blown a lead in the division. We've been tooth and nail with Minnesota all year, and we're here b/c Detroit faltered big time. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) I don't agree with that 100%. I would rather be a Braves' fan and have a run of sustained excellence than be a Marlins' fan, see 2 World Series win and two teams torn apart due to baseball economics. See these are two different things. Marlins and Sox. Being a Marlins fan could be depressing b/c the organization's mindset (whether fan support causes it or not) would be annoying. But based on rings alone, how can you prefer 1 to 2 ??? -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) Some food for thought. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...0309&st=100 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=40107 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 The dates to the threads should tell the story. Nicely done. Not that this team is that one, but the same mindset was around then too. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) No, we're really not. Not with the 3 games looming at Minnesota. Everyone acts like we've already lost all three at Minnesota. The pressure is still on them. Both teams have been horrible. They're still down. I swear to you they are not dancing in the streets over that Twins team based on today alone. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Because I don't want to spend the rest of my life seeing the Twins win the AL Central with inferior talent but better fundamentals. The Twins and Royals are just going to get better and better, and the Tigers and Indians won't be any worse next year either. If they win, that would be five titles in seven years...the White Sox would have just two in nine years. There's simply no excuse for that with the type of budget the White Sox have. In the last seven years, the Sox have more to celebrate than the Twins. Consider their side of this thing. No one wants to be the Bills. Cept they're not even getting there. Also i dont see the Royals on an upward trajectory, myself. -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) It's just so disappointing to lose a pennant race AGAIN to the Twins. You just have a feeling we're going down, and there's nothing we can do about it. If we still have the lead by the time we go into Minny and accept our bloodbath I'll be surprised. We'll probably get swept in KC Twins fans have been feeling the same thing until tonight. It aint over. Also, we cant really think that we'll look back on this year as --we blew a 7 game lead in the division. We were even w/ them the whole year, it's one of those that won't hurt long term. In the present, it woudl hurt a great deal. That I dont disagree with. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) Well, fading out of the playoffs after leading the entire season will do wonders for our season ticket sales. When we get some distance from this season, especially considering the CQ injury, i think there's no way to look at that season as other than a positive. We got some young studs that we didnt expect from what was to be a geriatric team. I'm talking CQ, Alexei, Floyd, Danks. If some of the older guys can produce next year, we'll still be looking good in this division. I dont know that i want all the older guys around, but i dont want a total rebuild either since we were such a power hitting team this yr. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Ramirez's numbers were inflated in a few extra inning games against the Sox. I was told his ERA is over 8 against the rest of baseball this year. that actually made me laugh a little even though insides crying -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) I would trade all of our relievers (except for Jenks/Thornton) that are now on our roster for Soria...and I am sure that Dayton Moore would still laugh at KW. If they had Griffey wrapped up earlier, i wish they really woulda done something with an outfielder (BA?) going somewhere for at least a decent reliever.
