The way I see it, bullpens are bullpens. They're so-so, so often. What I take a lot more from is our starting pitching really stepping up and putting up tons of zeroes. Really good to see.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) if Linebrink, Thornton, and Jenks can pitch well, the Sox bullpen will be OK. I havent been paying super close attention when Linebrink's been in recently. Is velocity down? What seems to be his problem? The Sox dont seem to want him out there in the same 8th inning role he had before.
-
It's not so much that I think Jenks is awful now - i think it's more like his value is at its highest and that...if other past ML parallels hold, he probably wont find that old strikeout rate again. It could happen, but if there was a good deal coming along, I would opt for that over paying him higher and higher salaries in the future.

How many teams love their bullpens? While worse lately, we're still statistically better than or near equal to several contending teams. It can be a lot worse. Despite all my trade Jenks things we're lucky to have him and Thornton to throw out there time after time in a playoff series.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Thornton and Jenks in the pen and it makes you wonder if we need another rebuild for the rest of it. Dotel has given up 11 or 12 homers in 50 some innings even though he K's a super number of hitters. Carrasco is up and down. They mightve seen enough from Clayton to see if they can convert him to the pen. It also would be interesting to see what happens with a fresh-arm Jose Contreras probably coming in midyear. If they have a solid 5 guys maybe they'd try to see him in the pen again. With all the money invested in Linebrink and Dotel, I'm sure they enter next year with huge roles, whether we like it or not. I wish Liney could miss half a year for non-arm issues b/c he seems to tire midyear. Lets get 'im

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) That homer ranks up there with Konerko's against the Twins in 2003 with 2 outs in the 9th and then Thomas' walk off later on in the game. Swishers walk off earlier this year is there as well. I'm probably forgetting some, Thome's walk off against LA was awesome, so was his walk off 500th career homerun. Pods walk off in the World Series is above. and jeff abbott

I got sliced and diced for having this position earlier in the week. Point blank though: he has the best K arm in the pen. He isnt considerably worse vs. righties. If we can get LHP for the pen (Poreda)... then do you consider him for closing games? Have to come to grips w/ the fact that Jenks isnt a strikeout pitcher anymore, and that we will have to start paying him more and more now. His ERA and saves dependability will give him serious value elsewhere. Trading Jenks is a shot at retooling...get players that can get OBP up which is our weak area. Bullpen needs work, but you guys know how it is. We didnt expect a lockdown bullpen in 05... you just try to get a right mix of arms and hope for the best. We'll do the same this offseason with or without Jenks.

QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) why is it that some of you are always here and never at the game? This will not go over well.
-
Also I made this point in another thread, but Thornton should close games for us next year if we can get lefties. He's the best bullpen arm we have, period.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Wise should start every from now until he shows he can't. When dudes hot, hes hot, gotta give it up for him! He's been consistent w/ the bat all year. His avg got up and stayed up. Just not given opportunities.
-
I want Wise taking atbats from Swisher b/c Wise can get a bat on the ball, whereas Swisher's strong suit of taking walks isnt happening this year. Plus defense and speed provided as well. Sometimes is just your year and much like Pods he has put together his best pro year after 10 yrs of mostly minor league play. Some just learn to hit late.
-
MY MAN get this man a spot in the lineup. Absolutely what our lineup has needed!!! gets a bat on a ball, runs well.
-
Swisher still playin'
-
Not fair, they wont pan back to those kids when their team is done later on. Never do, wish they would.
-
Dammit. You need a perfect bullpen for postseason play. We would really have to overwork our best people.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) Tomorrow will be a bunch of Z talk. The rest of the week will be Bears. I guess, but for some reason i cant picture talking that much about a no-hitter. The Bears game is interesting and can be dissected. A no-hitter is just kind of asked and answered.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) It's no big deal. Floyd was around that pitch total too for his no-no bids Yea but with Z the injuries
-
110 pitches. it's going to be so hilarious if chasing this NoNo trickles down to them not having an ace at ace quality for the postseason

QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) I absolutely hate Ken Griffey Jr's presence on this team. There is no universe where he should be in CF when Anderson is in the game. Milf Pappas ? i'm 13

This is really irritating, but if he doesnt get it i'll be glad to have witnessed.

Also what do people here use for a Bears message board (besides this) ? The only one i'm on is so gigantically populated w/ people that threads get to page 3 immediately -

To anyone who has been watching Packers games... does it look like the Bears defense has been more dominating than either side of the ball for them? -
QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) I don't know about it. Hawk and Stone both have some pretty big egos. Hawk is also the ultimate company man and is close with Reinsdorf. Stone calls it likes he sees it and is not afraid of challenging players or management. I can see this resulting in a tremendous blow up on camera and in the papers. You say you dont know how you feel about it ...You are listing awesome things, however. Also this may sound kind of silly, but I know Cubs fans who just flipping around would keep the TV on a Sox game just to hear Stone's voice. Lot of Cubs fans still like him. Higher ratings=more ad $, and then more $ that JR is willing to spend on players.

I hate to say this but the reason the announcement is now is the same reason Sarah Palin had her first one on one interview right now... hurricane taking people's minds off things somewhat, shoulders the blow (in her case for her slipups that happened in said interview)
-
I want Hawk and Stone to argue politics at some point.
