  1. Why am I drawing a blank on what bet Hawk lost?
  2. Their fans have been so spoiled by those payrolls and, well, rings
  3. From sonsofsamhorn: and...how many wins do they have again? wow.
  4. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) I wish we would have gave Fields more of a shot. It's that 2005 part of me I'm sure, but it's Uribe's time. Cant believe it but playing Juan is the proper 'win now' move.
  5. run manufacture, good.
  6. Had volume down and I shrieked when WCIU mistakenly put up 1 out just then
  7. Wow Wilson didnt seem to care too much about no hitters
  8. Longoria has been too good. even with this time missed for the wrist, it's not going to even up the numbers enough Even with Alexei having been on the bench for a similar chunk of time himself.
  9. QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) I agree about moving A.J. out of the 2-hole. It was a good idea earlier on in the season when there were no other options, but at this point, I'd rather have Swisher up there for his OBP or Alexei for his general speedsmanship. Stick A.J. at 6 or 7. Swish with the 98 Ks though
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) I am pretty sure the discussion was about Orlando Hudson, not Tim... oops, deal doesnt end til another year
  11. Hudson really does fit the profile of what the Sox would pursue. At 33, he's going to have to settle for the shorter years deal which is our ,um, specialty regarding pitchers
  12. QUOTE (Drew @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) "Here I go Again" is Whitesnake. The Great White tune you're thinking of could likely be "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" or maybe "The Angel Song." All these bands are the same thing basically. Hence the confusion.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) Quentin was never behind Anderson. Actually, you're right, and the reason is b/c Ozzie favored CQ from the start, saw his work ethic. With Anderson's spring, most other managers would have given BA the reins. Good thing Ozzie dislikes BA enough.
  14. So unbelievable that we're seeing this thread for a guy who originally was slated to not make the team. In a sense was behind Owens, Anderson and Alexei for outfield time.
  15. Pitching dies there. Our guys would go there to die.
  16. is Milton Bradley done playing OF? is his DHing out of necessity, or because he is simply the worst of four outfielders? i know he had an injury going into this year...
  17. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,7585963.story While we're all waiting for the real Carrasco to come around and screw things up, this article makes me think he's feeling actually less pressure at this point in his career, since he's seen it all in ten years Makes me hopeful that, if he hasnt figured something out about pitching, he just has a good mindset for it right now since he has been jostled around every pitching environment possible
  18. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I am sold now. He said he wasn't ready, in the first week of May, when he wasnt in AA yet. Yup. Broadway and his home runs is a much better solution. Broadway's not the starter. Better than all options is the acquisition of a vet.
  19. even more telling, the end of this interview indicates that Poreda himself believes he still has a long while before he's ML ready. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/21338-c...er-aaron-poreda
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) You realize that AA to the Majors is kind of a normal move for teams top prospects. AAA, especially the IL is where people stockpile aging vets and AAAA guys to sprinkle across other prospects who aren't good enough yet to make the majors. AA is still where the talent is. didnt say anything about AA specifically. the point is, asking a young guy to come in and make a difference in a PLAYOFF RUN is asking a lot, and i cant think of tons of examples of it working out well. Jenks, I guess, but he was older and had more life experiences (meaning bar fights) again, the downside is rushing him along too fast, which can be a detriment to his mindset, as well as future value.
  21. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) The last time I checked we are in the midst of a playoff run, this year. Not next year. Who knows next year what position we will be in. This years Indians and last years WhiteSox should of taught you that. I would agree with you if I thought Poreda could be great this year, but I dont think it's his time. Though I only base this on parallel situations from other teams at other times. I suppose there's a chance he could be the exception.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Ummmm....why would we want to trade Poreda, exactly? Because he throws the ball hard and he's left-handed and someone will give us another Josh Hamilton or Carlos Quentin for him magically? I'm not saying we should trade him. Just saying KW trades prospects. It's what he does, and when he has a need big enough next year, Poreda would be the #1 trading chip. Also, I didnt say we were trading him straight up, as you allege above. Obviously, he could be part of a package, netting something good in return.
  23. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) And the spiel about damaging Poreda's trade value is ridiculous. You're saying some organization is going to go, "s***, he did bad in a few starts. Ignore the fact that he's a LHP who can throw 100 MPH and is 21?" It sure doesnt help. Poreda trade could be the #1 way one day to make the team better instantly. It could be next trade deadline. You'll want the leverage then, for sure.
  24. So which position(s) is Getz best at? Which can he even play at all, actually?
  25. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) We honestly deserve to lose this division if we promote a piece of junk AAA pitcher like Broadway over Poreda. They must figure - he's seen some of the hitters before that he'll be facing And the downside of Broadway getting rocked is less important than the downside of Poredo getting rocked. This year both would matter equally, but in long term .... you dont want to damage Poreda's mindset or his trade value w/ bad ML stats.
