  1. For what OFs are going for right now price-wise, why didnt we just keep De Aza at what he makes (roughly wouldve been 5M but compare that to what a Markakis is about to get paid)...and spend wildly on Russell Martin or a pitcher? ADA was always over-hated here. We're probably about to overpay some no-field LF when we couldve just thrown ADA in left and spent money elsewhere. from MLBTR Alejandro De Aza hit well in a brief stint with the Orioles, and was useful with the White Sox. He’s a left-handed hitter who could be a good fit for a platoon. The Orioles already lost Nelson Cruz and seem likely to lose Nick Markakis as well, increasing the chances De Aza stays put, even with a projected $5.9MM salary that the White Sox wanted no part of. De Aza and Markakis are closer than you might think — check out this comparison of their last three seasons. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...ayers=5930,3371
  2. Hawk is willing to retire if the Sox get Markakis. He'll have accomplished everything he has set out to do in his 8 decades. Either him or C. Gomez
  3. John Hickey @JHickey3 · 7m 7 minutes ago Source close to #Athletics says A's will not be trading Jeff Samardzija to #Braves.
  4. Very often rumors break when it's something that just recently happened to not work out
  5. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) Hope we get an update soon either way. Anything else from the Illinois paper guy who said it'd be done this weekend? His latest: Jim Benson ‏@Pg_Benson 42s42 seconds ago ISU 36, YSU 35, 15:36. All sorts of offensive problems for Redbirds. Defense saving grace, but YSU had 4-pt play. Ouch. #isuhoops
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Anderson and Rodon better be far away from this package. Agreed on Rodon but the thing is.....regarding Anderson..........if not him, I dont really know what else we can put together that's of value. In JS, this is still a really good starting pitcher we're talking about here. 1.5 years of this guy cost Addison Russell and that is MLB.com's #5 on the planet spect.
  7. if JS wants to be in Chicago badly, he can tell OAK he isnt interested in negotiating extensions. Help his future club and steer himself to his preferred city by saying...there's one team i'd think about it for..
  8. Baehh instead of tearing up our farm system, wish they could sign mccarthy, melky and play some young guys in hopes of catching lightning somewhere
  9. If this is what people are talking about.......it doesnt look like a pal of Tim Anderson's. His prior tweets look like he's some Sox fan hoping for a trade soon. j @jimturano22 · 52m 52 minutes ago @TimAnderson7 sad. Best of luck in Oakland bud
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) Sounds like a couple of apologies are due here. is there anyone here who thinks talks havent happened? We have no real updates til we have news
  11. Anderson is mystery. We have young talent under control but not a lot of high ceiling mystery. So Anderson is one of the few examples of that in the org
  12. girl probably showed interest b/c she thought he was jeff teague
  13. Marquis Teague once tweeted "i'm done with this, i've had it" and all these Bulls fans tweeted him back "how selfish" "be team first" etc And then he writes back 'stop this is about a girl'
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) How not? What Semien has going for him is some BABIP-fueled minor league stats. First full MLB year was a failure. Beane will not pay us for 2014 Clutch Moments. Semien did walk in the minors, but not here. He's 24, the farm thing is done. The defense is considered limited besides his speed. Because of the minor league stats i'd see you getting a decent cost controlled reliever-type basically at this point at the absolute most. Semien is not a prospect.
  15. No one's going to want Semien, at least not in any meaningful way. He does not have much value right now.
  16. Sale and Abreu in different ways have possibly limited windows of greatness. Not super limited of course but...limited. So trading Alexei makes no sense, especially in light of LaRoche. They're going to take a brief win-now shot, without torching the farm this time, and see how it goes.
  17. Good twitter follow. Great story, seemed like down-to-earth guy
  18. Next thread: Carlton Fisk is asleep in a field
  19. Wow, those 2014 stats. Vet leadership is one thing but backup catchers actually have to get at-bats all year
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) We're being too nice to Tyler Flowers. Get that bum out of town. Last year he was definitely worth more than his contract. We've been rough on him. Last year he deserved respect as he made changes that paid off some. If we're talking about a player being worth what he's paid, then there is zero issue to have with Flowers. The problems with the White Sox absolutely do not start with a defense-first catcher with 700 OPS. The needs and expectations elsewhere were far bigger 2014 failures.
  21. Sanchez is part of a "cramped middle infield" picture? Suppose that's true but...i'd rather be That here over most places. He......could win an opening day MLB starting job. FA spending at 2b isnt likely b/c of the farm picture so there's a little glimmer of light here for Sanchez or Semien to claim a career and hold on tight (a la Conor)
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Chicago White Sox ‏@whitesox 4m4 minutes ago #WhiteSox have claimed OF J.B. Shuck off waivers from @Indians & reinstated RHP Nate Jones from the 60-day DL: http://atmlb.com/1obBbQY obp machine in the minors. 27 yr old.
  23. This is the scenario that unfolds each time, basically. The template: - Hawk introduces Dan Hayes onto the air - Dan Hayes mentions a bunch of interesting, inside tidbits. Stuff that would really appeal to a mainstream...in-need-of-info audience. Not like .....Soxtalk people..necessarily. More so....the garden variety fan. Could really learn a lot if they really had some good back and forth. - Hawk cuts in contributing something completely unrelated, engages Dan Hayes on nothing from what he just said, asks no follow-ups, gives kind of a freestanding anecdotal shart of info that takes us nowhere helpful.. - Hawk says "Thanks Buddy!" and Dan Hayes is instantly gone.
