QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 5, 2014 -> 10:49 PM) K Zone had all 5 pitches to ADA as strikes. That's off

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 5, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Alexi K 1st and 3rd 1 out..............just needed SF or slow roller. Ok so if you include that then we should have less than 3 runs since we benefitted from shoddy defense on the run we DID score. you can play that game all night with all kinds of scenarios in baseball, it's pointless

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 5, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) So does Alexi's K with 1 out and 1st and 3rd. The Dunn thing was on a different level from that.

Rienzo nothing special today, but it seems his worst starts have at least half a chance whereas Paulino's worst starts are uncontrollable feces bombs

sox need to trade alexei once out of contention

Love Alexei but yep ..put his past production to work in hopes of bettering your future. It makes sense. Being a MLB team is a constant stream of championships not won... have to keep the well of talent fresh -

**4/30 thread: Sox vs Tigers, 1:10pm**
Princess Dye replied to Brian's topic in 2014 Season in Review
Last night I was in the bullpen bar, and Tigers' Jeff Kunkel seriously spent the entire night checking in on the Bulls game on our TV in the bar. Apparently from Oak Forest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Kunkel_(catcher) Bullpen catcher i guess. gotta find something to do to pass the time -
Will Sox be buyers, not sellers, at the trade deadline?

If we White Flag dunn away and this fanbase erupts in anger, that would be the ultimate pot/kettle/black situation god i truncated that a la Hawk -
Interesting, in the sense that a visit to the morgue can be interesting. But in all seriousness..i think some return to the mean is in order with this pen and it apparently has started up

There's no question that his stats are coming down it's just a matter of how gigantic a drop it will be. The real question is-- is he going to return to being 2013 T-Flo who had the injury...or is he still having a chance to be better-than-AJ on both sides of the ball, so to speak Normal year AJ was a 740ish OPS guy, and Tyler before the shoulder thing was a 700 OPS guy...so that's still the realm we're talking about. My expectation would be Tyler ends up being a little worse than AJ with the bat and better w/ the glove. And the question is what does that net him in arb etc. Also should be noted that AJs OBP was dependent on swing-at-everything batting average bloat.. whereas Tyler in the minors showed plate patience despite K-ing tons. They'll forever be compared but of course are very different players.

Interestingly, dealing Dunn could be seen as win-now too, because then you can get Viciedo to 1B/DH role and improve your outfield defense potentially. -
Probably a good time to note also that various projections for Flowers on opening day were pretty rosy considering what happened last year. I think the absence of his long ball indicates a really concerted effort to have a new focus, to change who he is.

Maddon praises hell out of Abreu/"new" Sox line-up

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 07:18 AM) And then every Latin American hitter, seemingly, is susceptible to the low and away slider off the plate when behind in the count. It's like Hawk fused with a perennially weird message board poster -
QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 10:53 PM) At some point this year he is going to be unusable as a major league catcher - i'm just glad he delayed the need for action by a couple months. Why isnt it possible he's that 700 or so OPS guy from before the shoulder-injury 2013, maybe with a little ability to be slightly better than that? The minor league numbers bear out this as a perfectly reasonable end result for him. Sure he'll come back down to earth but he really hasnt played that much at this level, just seems like it. And defensively, he's just kinda A-OK nothing special but it works.
-
Sure luck has been on Flowers' side, but lets not forget that bloops coming from very strong hitters.......those often are not necessarily all 'luck.' If you're really strong, you have the ability to fight off pitches into the shallow OF that weaker hitters cannot. So if you're doing that it's not entirely 'luck' as it is happening because of an ability you bring to the table. Otherwise, we're then saying the only 'earned' hits are the beautiful looking ones, and that is not true.

Hah, go get a replay and let the rain intensify during that time. Cool

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) I'm not. Should have traded him after opening day, but I imagine no teams were foolish enough. I dont understand why people have this huge problem with De Aza. 7.5 WAR in what amounts to two and a half years as a Sox, and his salary during his time here has been fine value for that. For all the problems we've had around here, you would think people would direct their ire elsewhere. "ohhh but he's lazy/dumb blah blah blah."
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:47 PM) No. Not a chance. "returning to the mean" is such a foreign concept to some baseball fans, yet every year is like constant examples of it over and over again
-
Hi, these are professional players and over a career they play for a bunch of teams. We can't complain about the hideously bad pitching staff and then refuse to sign ex-Cubs just because they're ex-Cubs. Good lorrrrrd.

Scott Carroll went to Purdue for football, but transferred out b/c he could not get playing time over Kyle Orton
-
per Scot Gregor What a shot to the gut as far as expectations. What he had before just wasnt there this year(thus far) Scot Gregor @scotgregor 1m #WhiteSox option starter Erik Johnson (1-1, 6.46 ERA) to AAA Charlotte. Ventura: "He just needs to go and get his stuff back"

Uh...I am ...really not ready to see Putnam get sent down. I got a couple other candidates for banishment before him -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) Of course, but he's got a solid 6-7 years in him, especially at a low impact zone in 1B. We got a good one on our hands. Focus on the system, develop, make 1-2 creative moves in the off-season, get Garcia back, and next season start making some headway on an above .500 record. By 2016, this team may be ready to make a move. Hmm, isnt there enough AL parity where perhaps we can look at 2015? I mean even this year, i dont wanna go nuts but..........for peanuts we got Liriano/Youkilis/Myers in trades, so if it's for unimportant prospects, we might be willing to even take on some people..this year
