Sox make 4th and 6th best offseason moves

QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) I really dont understand the Peter Bourjos dicksuck fest. I get he is a great defender, but come on. thats a rare kind of fest, but it may be the best fest -
Kind of surprised the Sox would declare this so early. Just in the sense of..what's the benefit, really? I guess to light a fire under AR, see what happens?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) This changes literally nothing with Nieto, which is not a good or bad thing. The Nats did not think enough of him to put him on the 40 man roster. They do not value him highly. They will likely give him away for a song. I'd prefer Rock-a-bye Baby, but will part with Happy Birthday. This could be true, but it also happened because the Nats have several catchers they like. It's not solely b/c Nieto is what he is. I'm reading whatever I can on him...myy take on him is...early levels were a disappointment, but has played very well recently for long stretches (albeit not at a level fitting of his age) We had no young talent a year ago. Have to get creative (and we have). If he sticks on the roster he accomplishes the magical feat of defeating (just one of) these 2013 OPSes: .603, .522. That's what he'd be competing with in camp, as things stand. Plus he's said to have the defense (and of course the switch hit aspect)

Recent Sox seasons have clued me in: we may not have a breakout player Breakout players are not something we're owed, even though that's naturally the fan mindset.

I get this whole vibe from Hawk that he doesnt want to talk about Hahn that much. He mentions him, but soxfest was the first time he seemed to willingly be positive about him in a public way Sees him as a changing of the guard, suits-over-jocks in front offices?

Slow these days so... Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 1m RHP Chaz Roe has a minor league deal with the #Marlins, as @mlbtraderumors said. #WhiteSox also had strong interest.

The problem with signing Santana is you'd rather have that $-flexibility when you are close. Hold on to that dough right now, and take this year to see the new cast, and see how realistically close you are to contention for '15.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) I think he's the most entertaining guy on the team to watch hit. Sure he's going to strike out a lot, but there is still that 1 in 20 chance he's going to hit a bomb. I'd much rather watch a guy like that than a little slap hitter who hits .300. Agreed. The things that make a viewer-who-hates-strikeouts mad....I dont care about those things. Production is what matters and when he had people in front of him/behind him...as in 2012...he was better. As is, last year, was the team's OPS leader.

Question for anyone who chooses to speculate: Despite ADA's disappointing year last year.....what are the chances that a team out there that needs CF or leadoff badly....does a little overpay? What teams out there even qualify as this? Seems like Leadoff-Type-Guy is something that was in shorter supply say in the mid to late aughts.....than it is now? Or maybe that the traditional leadoff just isnt the gotta-have-it focused-on thing it used to be? (not that he's exactly traditional leadoff, of course, in that he's more of a slugging guy with some past years of passable OBP)

what year was CMON-TIMO
-
Were ADA in left field, hitting lower in the order, he'd be serving this team well. Lefty who doesnt have a noodle for a bat. I would expect them to choose Viciedo over him for an organizational-health perspective....but if next year were to matter then we'd be best served with ADA. DV is so bad in the outfield that it obscures the good arm he has
-
Nieto has quite the uphill climb offensively to get a job here..has to beat out the 2013 OPSes of .520 and .600 In all seriousness though - I think he'll get an honest look and fair shot. Sure he came cheap but everything they're doing this year points to them willing to get creative to get and keep organizationally-healthy people here for a few years at the cost of current wins. We'll see that reflected in the eventual ADA trade, I would think.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 01:23 AM) Anyone not putting Dunn in the lineup is absolutely insane. The ONLY hope we have of dumping him at the deadline for a prospect or two is if he is playing everyday and knocking out 25 HR by the deadline. Remember though that you are at This board, where people somehow completely forget Adam Dunn hits homers, and that homers are worth Runs & that Runs win games.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) Dunn hasn't exactly delivered on his contract, but he has hit 41 and 34 home runs over the past two seasons. Not exactly dragging down our offense out there. And he's definitely the type that needs people on base or behind him that are some kind of freaking threat. His best year here he had that.

'frustrating to watch' actually is not something that really matters. at all. Steve Trachsel was frustrating to watch but if he had a good year for the team you root for -- then yr fine w/ that. As a fan you should want a good year. Plain and simple. This was the OPS leader so if the frustrations begin and end with him then obviously the fandom has turned a blind eye to all the other guys on this roster that were underperforming. Spread blame equally, and (specifically to the people with a mic today) show some class in doing it.

So according to twitter, there was some jeering of Dunn and some booing of the catching and Hahn had to battle all of that? Yegh.

Top White Sox Prospects - 2014 Pre-Season
Princess Dye replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
His 2012 is probably a better offensive year than any sox farm hand has had in this system. Or one of the top few at least. And he's still a young guy (and could potentially play CF so positional value as well). Last year KW alluded to him being purposely steered toward a lowered K rate. as an intentioned thing. Unfortunately cost him power but perhaps for a greater good. With some players you have to take routes like this -
Flowers is as low as low can be in the hearts and minds of Sox fans right now. But stepping back for a second, a bounceback for him is not some insane thought: 1) last year was 250 at-bats only. Prior to that he was a young .700 OPS catcher and we were all looking for him to take the next step offensively. That was 250 atbats ago. 2) the minor league #s

The troubling thing with Phegley is that the low lows extend to his minor league history as well. Sure there are health related issues in his past, and they're big... but even with that taken into consideration... sample sizes are growing. About to turn 26

We come here for neither our own humility, or anyone else's. In fact, the reason for message boards is, if anything, seeking out quite the opposite. On both counts.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) Viciedo's presence would not be good for hitting camp morale. When Abreu discovers just how incompetent Dayan is, he'll probably bust his balls and tell him to raft back to Cuba. We'll want Dunn and/or Konerko around to break up the fight. If there's anything that Viciedo is good for, it's screwing over the team, so it stands to reason that he could potentially injure Abreu if there's any beef. Ok!

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Do you guys ever think that maybe, just maybe, someone from the FO has read important threads here to see what the more intelligent fans think? Maybe not a Rick Hahn or a Kenny Williams, but someone lower down. Here's hoping Jose Abreu The Player's production is the inverse of Jose Abreu The Poster's...production EDIT: hurts me to rip a fellow Gimmick account, but there's just too much data taking me there

eternally optimistic each spring, 05 was the ST i finally decided to get really down in the dumps about the team I actually had no problem with McCarthy leaving
