  1. Had the Royals traded The Mexicutioner when he mattered and had great value, they might've gotten This. Instead they got nothing for him in the end We just got this.. for Addison Reed. No use in being a bad team with a good closer. Important to see that, glad we did.
  2. What's cool about this is the floor (offensively) should be high enough where he could ...not handle third well...and still be an everyday player at an easier position. And if third does work out, then it is sunshine, lollipops, rainbows, etc
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) Gillaspie makes zero sense on the bench. He can only back up 1 position. That would leave backups for DH, C, and 3b on the bench, and 1 backup covering 5 other positions. Gillaspie's LHness is nice but he's not nearly flexible enough. Just a thought...Trade Dunn, CG shares first with Paulie.
  4. Sad to say but really with guys like Viciedo, Beckham and Flowers......it's basically just try to build their value for another year, pray something clicks........
  5. Unpopular news that is good http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...w-spending-plan Organizational health comes foremost. Plus there's a little nugget in there alluding to 2015 being...a target for expenditures. Finally a clear plan (as far as overall org)
  6. The way catcher is, you could play Flowers, hope for an early season hot streak(Oliver '14 projections are kind)...and actually get something for him. A little something at least. The minor league numbers being what they are, you can surely sell someone on a potential light switch flip having happened. That is, if you are fine with 2014 being experimental jazz
  7. Also once of the Will Arrive in 2013 class: Trayce Thompson. Argh that one still stings (though i understand they purposely wanted to take him away from just his strengths this year)
  8. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 06:44 AM) Fisk can fix him! Once he gets his pickup truck fixed up
  9. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) If the Sox acquire a legit major league catcher (Castro, etc) then Flowers and Phegley have to know they are ticketed for AAA. Nieto would just be cut loose in this scenario. This all just smells like they want to be sure there's at least some sort of option if a real LH catcher isnt found But if they really like his potential.. then they can just implement it into their forget-2014 plan. At least...forgetting the need to ..streamline it. Hence why Konerko doesnt get in the way of anything depthwise, either
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) So lemme see if I got this right . Nieto who was 23 in A+ ball has to make the Sox 25 man roster or else they send him back to the Nats ? Sems highly unlikely since Phegs and Flowers both hit AAA pitching pretty well and Nieto hasnt even sniffed that level yet. but factor in..Nieto's defense, and the lack of importance on 2014 specifically
  11. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin now Eaton: "It would be great if I could hang my hat around .300, 100 runs scored and an OBP around .400. I think it's definitely doable." Ugh, now he's throwing out projections. Kid, just go play I like that he's thinking in terms of on-base though. Easier said than done for guys trying to prove themselves at the highest level, yet that's his mindset. Value the at bat.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) Maybe Hahn knows something we don't about Eaton, because we sure paid a hell of a price for him IMO. I dont understand where this thing comes from (yet we hear it in this thread nonstop) Eaton thrashing the minors and not having many opportunities yet in the majors-- it's all clearly stuff that is public knowledge, available to you.
  13. Is having every rotation spot set a concern for this team right now? If so then 2014 is the goal, but I dont think that's the case. This is built like a 2015 onward thing right now.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) What do you mean? Santiago and any other SP we could trade are controlled well beyond then. Right, but we're trading a low ceiling pitcher for a high ceiling player. Who helps in the various areas of need that will matter in '15, '16 etc. When you hold onto tons of pitching depth in a bad year, you sink an asset just by waiting til that inevitable arm injury. Holding onto too much starting pitching without having anything else on your team = not good. Those assets are the ones more likely to depreciate due to wear and tear. This would all be different if we were a good team right now, with a healthy farm system. That is not the case. If you go on about Santiago being 'mishandled' (as if pitchers MLB-wide dont go through the same kind of things when they're not 'special')............then why can't i bring in Eaton's UCL situation as well? we can go on about those things and uncover excuses left and right.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Our rotation is certainly below average now. We better hope we don't trade another SP. Your stance is a lot more clear to me then if what you're implying here is you're very into the Sox 2014 chances. I think most here like the acquisitions of really, really talented guys around that 23-26 age range. It's not win-now but it's adding talent in departments that need a whole lot of it.
  16. People really getting this upset over Eaton's '13? That mediocre 250 major league at bats is the only reason we're in this discussion. Otherwise he wouldnt be available. He tore up the minors, gives our defense much needed improvement. Patient at the plate doubles machine. These were the things we wanted.
  17. Did everyone just hear "grinder" on Eaton and let that color all their perceptions? That's what it seems like in this thread. Eaton is a high ceiling guy, of the right age to matter ASAP, who hasnt had enough MLB at-bats. For months we say this is the type of guy we wanted and now we get upset? I dont get it.
  18. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:28 PM) Wow you really de-value Viciedo. That's okay you'll be eating your word coming June when he's taking for us. Viciedo is going no where, especially for a bum like Labaton lmao He said And An Arm.
  19. Frighteningly, Kendrick's OBP would be respectable on this Sox team. And the SLG ooh yes gimme.
  20. Sox mustve just fed that Quintana stuff to Levine to make fans breathe easy when it eventually goes thru for Santiago
  21. 'Dealing from a surplus' as a major consideration would be stupid if we saw ourselves as years and years away. But signing Abreu, a 26 yr old, means they want to win in 2015. Be up and coming in 2014. You mold the (eventual) winning team, in part, now.
  22. Now hearing they're pushing for Quintana instead? I guess he wont be hanging out at that Colombian restaurant in Rogers Park anymore...
  23. Play ADA, get a slight bounceback year at the plate, and he's absolutely worth more at the deadline than he is now. He wouldnt really need all that much of a bounceback, and you work on some traditionalist (any left?) GMs content to have him in center, content to ignore how bad he's been there If you play Dayan tons next year, over ADA, the only benefit is that continued, annual hope that DV finally nears the ceiling. I can understand that mindset, but I dont love it.
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:39 AM) This would be a hilariously dumb trade for us straight up, You're saying this off more than Eaton's 300 ML at-bats? Santiago is nice labor for the price but has anyone here honestly touted his ceiling..like at all?
