QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Not really, but whatever. Rios is gone, and now Garcia will be up. It's moot now. I just dont get it phrased as some contributing reason as to why the trade should be done. They are two totally separate things. You dont do deals of this magnitude, completely altering payroll BECAUSE you dont want to sit Viciedo or Konerko so Avisail can play.
-
If trading Rios is good, then good. But enough of mentioning "now avisail can come up" That was something that could happen whether Rios was traded or not. Jeez.

i actually picture charlie brown more so when trying to envision how we are in trade talks

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) There is no pressure to dump salary. We have enough money to buy players if we want them. What we don't have is talent and our money can't buy that. Our players can buy that, though While there's no pressure to dump salary, there's the very real fact that dumping salary allows you to have a wider array of options in the future. The next time a big overspender needs to come back to earth and move a still-decent piece, we're going to be there waiting. Maybe not now but whenever that point will be when we're ready to go for it again And it depends on how much we've dumped and how much we've held back on dumping.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:28 AM) We should .275/.391/.484 in the minors, but too old to have trade value. And is cheap. Thus, very clear to me that Tyler's most value is staying here. The light turns on and we have a nice find there or it doesnt and we dont. That's basically where we're at with Tyler.

The timeline kind of interests me here. So Texas claimed Rios earlier in the week, yet the news didnt break til now. So maybe they had a lets-keep-it-quiet agreement initially Now maybe the Sox are leaking it so as to make the Texas fandom antsy and throw on some pressure.
-
If the Sox were only getting prospect-but-we-need-salary-relief offers at the deadline, then we have some leverage now. If the Sox were able to get the whole contract taken at the deadline, but couldnt make a deal...then right now nothing has changed and we have zero leverage. Texas meanwhile sent out these weird signals recently that they would try to sell off some of their veteran talent this coming offseason, i.e. disgust (already) with Garza and so on....so who knows what to believe from them

Soxtalk: Where Alex Rios is a good-for-nothing lazy bum who is worth 17M in future salary, plus prospects.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) We have all the leverage in the world. Shoot for the stars Hahn. Question though...why are Rangers dying to give up anything for this. They're looking at a .750 OPS corner outfielder. I can see him being worth (to some team) either what he's owed, or prospects of OK worth.......but not both.

White Sox 2x Comeback Winner !

Whoa i turned this off entering the bottom 12. This makes me a heat fan i gues -
In football no one cares who juices. Now of course baseball has the whole thing where the records were sacred, and steroid users made those records...no longer magical So it makes sense that McGwire and Bonds etc are vilified. For these later guys now, A-Rod amongst them........who yes contributed to the general era, but who werent committing these specific atrocities on the record books , and just basically have cheated (while their opponents and opposing pitchers cheated too)......affecting Ws and Ls, like an NFL guy today does.........i dont see why some are made to be Americas Most Wanted and others are totally forgotten (ie Quintana, Flowers) You can be really good and cheat (A-Rod) and be hated, or you can be bad and cheat and be forgotten (Flowers)

with Quintana and Ozuna it is funny stuff; with ARod it is a tragedy of monstrous proportions I robbed a bank, but i shouldnt go to jail because i dropped all the money before i got in my car and left. Of course everyone is punished, in a literal sense...but the punishment in public opinion is where the hypocritical reactions come in

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) What does that do for us though? Dunn is our best hitter by far and at the very least will get us a decent piece at next year's deadline if he keeps hitting like he is. Everyone these days can always use power. They won't risk claiming Dunn and Rios at the same time, but we aren't going to salary dump either anyways. People are eager to dump Dunn due to their emotional response to this season. I agree that he will have value next trade deadline. A hitter like him needs some other people in the lineup to not have noodles for bats.....he needs runners on or something behind him in order to amplify his obviously..specific...gifts what he's giving us now ....yes it's off the pace of his earlier career some, but it's no 2011.

Joke is on you Cleveland you will win nothing this year whereas we are headed for that Big Draft Pick in the Sky

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:37 AM) I still don't see why you guys have Hawkins rated so high. Not even close to top 10 IMO. Fast forward to one year from now.....If he has similar numbers then, will you still rank him in Top Ten? Not me. It seems like you are making lists for what someone has done, instead of projecting what they are capable of doing

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) "I hope he stands strong and gets good value for these players" "WHY DIDNT HE DO ANYTHING!!!!" So much LOL. Rock do you sense that Arizona and whatever other deals were just going to pale in comparison to Avisail/Montas? I think there's this false narrative being created here that we lost out on a prospect haul because of an unwillingness to give money over. Where leaguewide were all these outstanding prospects being shipped around? We mustve lost out on a bunch of guys that went elsewhere, to hear some here tell it.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) yea, no pressure. do what he wants. Just how he likes it. It's reading into an extremely short quote. From what I gather, he's not allowed to like it here. Oh yeah, bigtime clubhouse cancer. Awful person. Last year, funny how we werent reading into cryptic quotes when he was giving us 100 points higher OPS

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) I guess they're going with the slooow rebuild. I don't want to hear the BS about them competing next year, because they won't. It could make for a really fun time here actually. There's nothing better than when you know your team isn't good, but are convinced it is about to be good. It's that great place where you can have expectations and enjoy things that aren't necessarily the crushing mental chaos of the season W-L record itself For that to happen, we need a step forward next year from Garcia/Jacobs/E.Johnson/Thompson and it'll be fun to track all that. I can be happy with that if it finally means we are building an organization again and not relying on seat-filling OKness. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Nothing's wrong with Keith Law -- Garcia is a bag of tools that doesn't know how to hit yet at the Major League level.. This is a perfectly rational opinion. So far in the MLB, he's swung at 41% of all pitches he's seen OUTSIDE OF THE STRIKE ZONE. It fine as an opinion, the way Law stated it. Law even highlights how the guy can still go in any direction. As far as this board.........We complain for months about not having talent in the minors. Then we get impressive talent and the concern is just moved to something else. If we want an amazing cant miss minor league prospect, a guy who has BOTH the teachable and unteachable.............. then lets trade someone Sale. That would end the whining, yet of course then..we wouldnt have Chris Sale. And the maze would continue -
Question for those down on the deal......... if Avisail can handle MLB centerfield, does that completely change your view of this thing? That's a jolt of value even if he just develops into that high average/OK power type that some are fearing for the corner OF spots

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Alex Rios might be my least favorite Sox player with some talent ever. This quote from him (that you're responding to... 'im cool with this place') is a perfect example of something that bothers me. Why is what he said so immediately awful? Rios is not that different from the average MLB douchebag. That kind of primadonna is in every clubhouse. If we wanted all these guys to be great guys, the purging of assholes would be a far larger project leaguewide than the dumping of Alex Rios. And really the list of bad things on Rios' history is not particularly long. If we want to dump Rios to start anew, fine. But just based on the reactions here over Rios ...over the years.............. give me the douchey guy who has at least some prayer of an 800 OPS than the choir boys here who dont

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 18m Rios on not being moved at deadline: "I'm cool staying here. I like this place." 'What a bad attitude malcontent mrah mrah mrahhh'

really sucks when a 3-way just fails to materialize despite expectations

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) I think they are better players than this board or this fanbase give them credit for. Not sure why teams dont think they would be valuable to have in a playoff run. Rios is fine, but depending on the year, his bat is either near All-Star or a total noodle. That sort of thing will inspire more confidence in buyers when they're stuck with just .5 to 1 yr of paying for it.
