  1. So how do these types of trades work? Is there a PTBNL set of player names decided on between teams, and if Crain hits a performance benchmark...the Sox get to pick from the better of the two lists?
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Not that I'd rather cover the Cubs than the Sox, but Trips to MIL, PIT, CIN, STL >>> trips to CLE, DET, KC, MIN KC is really really underrated.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) I can't believe the Sox haven't made any moves besides Thornton. You think the money issue is a holdup? If you like the Sox, you should want them to get the most possible. That means making contenders sweat and get pushy. The Sox have nothing to lose by waiting, if there are multiple offers. You could get beat out by someone else, but i fail to see what better pitcher is out there than Peavy. If you have what people want, you make others work to please you. Sounds good to me.
  4. My fear - we eat money, but are told by the FO that it's on condition that we not expect to later spend what we just ate. Aeh
  5. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) Some people in this thread are way too excited about Evan Gattis. Excitement aside, he would immediately jump to the pool of quality young bats in our organization. Even if 'young' is stretching it.........to say we have many better hitters in the org (than him)would also be stretching it(tons). He would absolutely be of worth to us.
  6. No matter the particulars -- hatred for Detroit should not factor in. It would make sense to not want to make a rival way better.....but this is Reed we're talking about here. A closer who is no dominant closer at that. So if the deal is right...really beneficial for us...............sure, you do it. Just purely disliking DET is not a factor.
  7. Ah the fan paradox. 'this team is so bad/why arent other teams paying up for my team's players i dont get it'
  8. I like Rios. I think the years his bat completely became a noodle scare off some teams as far as the total $ he is owed. And there are trade-kicking thingies too
  9. The lineup almost doesnt have a hitter. A hitter.
  10. If there's going to be a documentary, this title absolutely makes sense to me. It makes sense to title it something based on his quirkiness. I am not a Hawk hater, but he just basically did not do all that much. It's all his how, not his what. good god i'm going into a hawkism just describing him If anyone wants to make a documentary about me,please do. I am really good at yelling when the Sox do poorly and jumping up and down when they are good n' s***
  11. I dont have to like things i dont like obviously. but the logic thread is absolutely dead-on. That is unless we are planning on exploding with win-now moves ASAP. There has to be some repercussion from a totally lost farm system. At some point here we have to inject young talent that has already had some minor league success and sustained it a bit To do this, however, it would have to be a prospect boon of insane proportions.
  12. Figuring out how to deal with increased media attention/fan hordes for Phegley. A la Nomo-mania or the beatles
  13. Ashamed to be DVRing with such good vibes all around. I'm like a Heat fan or some junk
  14. There's an argument for keeping Rios. (1) we all know the return isnt exactly going to be some stellar prospect (2) he has potential to deliver all-star RF seasons, and will continue having that potential (3) the Sox have to try to win most years, and will try next year. They need to win to keep up attendance. They will likely try to win in 1 year's time, at which point Rios can still be here doing things for you to that end. Someone has to play RF and he's doing that well(well, offense and arm being the main consideration there). If he were going to deliver pure gold in a prospect haul it'd be a different story. Basically people here freak out that he will return to being awful, and cant wait to get rid of him. It's very possible to get rid of him and have that be a very bad baseball move, you know. Based on what he makes, teams wont be lining up with their best stuff (unless we want to pay). Further - just because some years his bat is a noodle, and others it's all-star level........it doesnt make him someone to dump. It still makes him, rare, in a sense. In a good way. There are teams that want that, but the money will be what stops a great deal from happening for us.
  15. one comment i saw on Facebook: "why dont we encourage our young people to pursue their education?" sometimes i want fierce winds to take my computer and let it fly far far away
  16. Anyone who's against this..i guess...does not have a problem with the total talent level we have in the minors. Odd, because I thought that was a giant problem for everyone. If instantly everyone wants older, ready-to-go guys...then I guess we'll never be happy here.
  17. The most overblown thing is the reaction when certain pitchers dominate the Sox over several starts. So we finally got to Guthrie. Funny how now I don't care at all.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) Boers and Bernstein Odd that Hawk would hate the founders of the very game he loves
  19. This little nugget was interesting. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/20847095-41...hell-on-me.html What are our guesses? Alexei? Hawk will back Sox players on the air til kingdom come, but with Alexei he nearly breaks that self-programming once a week or so (regarding lazy throws to first)
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) There are a lot of reasons. PK is one of them. Viciedo, Flowers, Ramirez, Keppinger, and yes Dunn. At least Dunn is going to hit 40 homers. It just does not fit when you have black holes in most other spots as well. Dunn is fine as a DH if this is a good team. This is not a good team around him. Dunn needs guys on base. You want a real team in front of him as well as behind him in the lineup. Sure at his price he should be a conveyor of success. But I dont necessarily take the most frustrating player to watch and immediately equate him with team failure. The fact that he's the most frustrating player to experience is just our emotional response - nothing more.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) We better peg someone Baseball's storied yesterday, a rich tapestry of insanity
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 29, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) How he stays batting in the middle third is mind blowing. On this team, honestly, his power and 2012 success has enough worth to still justify that. The pickings are quite slim on this here offense.
